Chapter: Chapter 175
“Under that manor?!” The woman’s expression changed. Did this mean she had missed something crucial?
“Yes, it’s normal that you wouldn’t know. He records this information using a secret art unique to our demon race. Naturally, you, without demonic power, wouldn’t be able to see it clearly.” The short-haired woman closed the three books and returned them to the woman. “After all, your mission at that time was only to raise that girl. Everything else was not your concern.”
“Then let’s hurry and retrieve those things!”
“Wait, don’t be so hasty. In your current physical condition, what would you do if you encountered an enemy there?” The short-haired woman quickly tried to dissuade her. The Demon King’s subordinates were everywhere in the Demon King’s City. While the manor wasn’t within the city, it was still near it.
Coupled with the special identity of the original owner of that place, perhaps the suspicious Demon King had stationed guards there.
With the woman’s current state, like a candle in the wind, if she were to be delayed by someone powerful, the consequences would be unimaginable.
The divine artifact they had just obtained couldn’t be handed over to the Demon King just like that.
“Rest for a few days first. I’ll cast a few healing spells for you. Once your body has recovered sufficiently, we’ll go there to find the items.”
“What if the Demon King’s people get there first?” the woman asked.
“Heh, don’t worry. Other than you and me, no one else knows about the existence of that place,” the short-haired woman replied with great confidence. “Even I learned about this from the books left by that person. How could the Demon King possibly know that such a thing is hidden beneath the manor?”
“So, listen to me. Rest your body first. Once your combat power has recovered adequately, then go to the manor to investigate. This way, even if you’re ambushed, you’ll be able to escape.”
“As long as the green hills remain, there will be wood to burn. Isn’t that an old saying of you humans?”
…
“Sister, you’re finally back~”
“Quick, quick, let your sisters see what our most perfect sister looks like~”
“Huh, this is the most perfect one among us? She doesn’t look particularly special.”
Jumbled voices echoed in her ears. Mo Zili covered her ears, her face filled with only panic.
Was this a dream?
She only remembered feeling sleepy after dinner. Plus, Leticia hadn’t returned today, so she went to bed very early to rest.
But as soon as she closed her eyes, she arrived at this strange place.
“Tell sister, what is your name?” A hand was suddenly placed on Mo Zili’s shoulder.
Mo Zili shivered like a startled little rabbit. She quickly took a few steps forward and then looked back.
Upon seeing this, she nearly jumped out of her skin.
Behind her, a highly decayed corpse had appeared sometime. No, calling it a corpse felt inappropriate because there were no moving, laughing corpses in this world.
Though, perhaps that made the corpse even more terrifying.
“Oh dear, did I scare little sister?” The corpse touched its exposed cheekbones, pulling out what was meant to be a smile. “I thought little sister’s psychological resilience would be much better.”
“Who are you?” Mo Zili asked with a trembling voice.
“We are your sisters.”
“We?”
“What appears here is the fused consciousness of all of us. Only in this way can we speak with the most perfect one among us.” The rotten humanoid, calling herself Mo Zili’s sister, tilted her head. “It’s just, no matter how I look at it, I don’t think you are the most perfect one.”
“What do you mean, what is the ‘most perfect one’?” Mo Zili suppressed her panic and asked.
But the terrifying monster did not answer Mo Zili’s question. She just smiled and walked towards Mo Zili step by step.
Mo Zili instinctively wanted to retreat, but before she could make a move, several fair arms emerged from the bottomless darkness, securing her body in place.
“What are these things?!” Mo Zili struggled, but her struggles only made the grotesque monster chuckle.
“These are all your sisters. This is our resentment.” The monster pressed its disfigured face against Mo Zili’s. “Share your body with everyone. Everyone wants to live under the sun like you.”
“No way! This is my body!” Mo Zili, from some unknown source of courage, actually headbutted the monster, pushing it back a few steps.
Her reaction seemed to anger the monster. The hands holding Mo Zili tightened, causing the already frail girl to feel a surge of pain.
“You refuse a toast and insist on a penalty. It seems there’s nothing more to discuss,” the monster said coldly. “In that case, I shall shatter your consciousness here, and then your body will be ours.”
With that, the monster’s humanoid form could no longer be maintained. Patches of grotesque flesh surged out from its body. In just a few breaths, the monster had completely transformed into a monstrous being.
“Are you the monster that was sealed inside that jewel?!” Mo Zili immediately recognized the monster. The black jewel she had touched had released the monster that was now before her.
However, hadn’t this monster already been killed by Leticia? Why was it appearing in this place?
“We are merely recreating the image of the most deadly enemy in your memory. However, you are not entirely wrong. This monster is indeed your sister, but she is a complete failure.” The monster’s voice became a chorus, making Mo Zili’s head spin.
“Enough idle chat. Our dear sister, farewell forever!”
The monster swung its bloated arms and slammed them down fiercely towards Mo Zili, who was held captive by several hands.
If this blow landed accurately, Mo Zili would truly have turned into “Mo Zili-chan”… Come to think of it, both times she almost turned into “chan” were because of this monster.
Last time, Bai Ling saved her. Would someone save her this time?
The answer, of course, was yes.
Brilliant golden radiance erupted from Mo Zili’s body, silently eradicating the hands holding her and the monster’s massive attacking arm.
“What?!” The monster stared blankly at the disappearing arms, unable to comprehend what had happened.
A phantom figure appeared in front of Mo Zili. It was a petite girl with black hair.
The moment she saw the girl, Mo Zili felt a great weight lifted from her heart.
She was safe.
…
“Had a nightmare? And you forgot everything from the dream?”
Leticia, who had sensed the protective magic she left on Mo Zili being triggered, rushed to Mo Zili’s room within minutes.
At that time, Mo Zili was still lost in thought in her dream.
Shaking Mo Zili awake unceremoniously, Leticia asked, “What just happened?”
Mo Zili’s answer, however, was rather unhelpful. When people wake up from dreams, the memories from the dream fade away at an extremely rapid pace. And the dream Mo Zili had just had faded even faster than a normal dream.
Now, Mo Zili couldn’t remember what happened in the dream.
“It seems like I was being chased by a terrible monster, but I don’t know why it was chasing me,” Mo Zili said softly, clutching her blanket.
“What happened… Leticia?” Bai Ling opened the bedroom door and walked in. Seeing Leticia standing by Mo Zili’s bed, she felt she might be at a slight risk of being “stolen.”
Didn’t Leticia live in the Demon King’s Palace? Why was she in Mo Zili’s room in the middle of the night?
Bai Ling had come to check because she heard strange noises from the neighboring room. She had originally thought Mo Zili woke up in the middle of the night wanting to use the restroom or something, but she didn’t expect to see Leticia here.
“You’re too slow! I’ve been standing here for two minutes, and you’re only appearing now. If the enemy had infiltrated like me, two minutes would be enough for them to take away little Mo Mo.” Leticia preempted her, severely criticizing Bai Ling’s lax work attitude.
Bai Ling felt innocent about this. Who knew the soundproofing in Leticia’s house was so good? Bai Ling hadn’t heard anyone speaking in the room at all before opening the door.
Besides, there were warning spells set by Leticia by Mo Zili’s bed, the door, and the window. Demon King-level warning spells!
Even Bai Ling wasn’t confident she could enter the room without triggering them.
“Then I can’t just live here, can I?”
“You can sleep on the floor.” Leticia snorted. “The magic I left on little Mo was triggered. Someone launched a mental attack on little Mo.”
“Mental?” Bai Ling tilted her head. As a physically oriented profession, she didn’t understand these mystical things. However, judging from Leticia’s expression, this seemed to be a very serious matter.
“Yes. Although I don’t know why anyone would target little Mo’s mind, one thing is certain: those people definitely have the ability to cast spells from a distance.” Leticia spoke with a serious expression.
Because the warning magic she had set in the room was not triggered at all, it meant no one had entered the room.
But Mo Zili, who was resting alone in the room, had suffered a mental attack. This could only mean that those people possessed the ability to cast spells remotely.
And to achieve this, a medium was necessary.
“Your teacher has quite a few of your personal belongings, doesn’t she?” Leticia stated the obvious.
It was only natural. That woman would definitely have many items related to Mo Zili in her possession, such as clothes she had worn, used tissues, fallen hair, and even things like blood.
With these items in existence, as long as her teacher joined forces with those demon accomplices, they could cast curses on Mo Zili remotely.
Fortunately, Leticia had placed protective magic on Mo Zili beforehand, otherwise, their little Mo Mo tonight would have been in dire straits.
“Are you saying that my teacher is responsible for this?”
“It’s not absolute, but the probability is over ninety percent.” Leticia nodded. “Now, tell me, how many people do you know who possess your personal belongings and are also connected to demons?”
“My teacher, and… you.” Mo Zili remained silent for a moment before answering.
Her teacher definitely had her personal belongings, such as the unwashed clothes she left behind before leaving.
“Then that’s it. Without your personal belongings, it’s impossible to remotely cast a magic attack on your mind,” Leticia said confidently.
“If not for the contingency I left behind, your mind would likely have been destroyed before our dear Miss Bai noticed anything unusual.”
Bai Ling, suddenly rebuked by Leticia, looked a bit dumbfounded. She was a human whose skills were all focused on offense. Who understood these mystical things like magic?
If someone cast magic on her, she would sense it and be able to counter it. But who could possibly notice if someone cast magic on the person in the room next door?
“I can only protect her on a physical level. I don’t understand magic,” Bai Ling said, somewhat displeased.
“I never expected you to help me in this regard. You should just go back to your room and sleep,” Leticia said, hands on her hips, and snorted twice. “I’ll reinforce a few protective spells for little Mo before I go back to rest.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Why else?” Leticia tilted her head.
“Just live here. This is also your home, right?” Bai Ling pointed to the floor, saying to Leticia, “Besides, if you live here, wouldn’t you be able to protect her safety even better?”
Bai Ling would protect Mo Zili physically, and Leticia would protect Mo Zili magically. With both of them present, who could possibly harm Mo Zili right under their noses?
However, the reason Leticia chose to stay in the Demon King’s Palace was precisely because she didn’t want to run into Bai Ling.
If she lived here, she would definitely see Bai Ling in the morning. And in the evening, she would have to spend several hours with her again.
In that case, wouldn’t it be no different from their previous life in the human world? Leticia’s return to the Demon Realm was precisely because she didn’t want to have too much interaction with Bai Ling.
Now that she had no choice but to ask Bai Ling for help, she still didn’t want to see Bai Ling too often.
“I think it’s better for me to live alone,” Leticia whispered. “You just stay here obediently and don’t mind what I do, okay?”
“Hey, but I was invited by you to help. If you don’t give me any compensation and just ruthlessly chase me away, isn’t that a bit unreasonable?” Bai Ling took a step forward, rested her head on Leticia’s shoulder, and whispered into the girl’s ear.
“You still owe me three days!”
“That was then, this is now. My accounts are very clear.”
