Chapter: Chapter 231
After reaching a consensus, Leticia and her party immediately sprang into action.
Before long, they kicked open the door of a small warehouse located in a dark alley.
The pervasive smell of decay made Leticia frown. She unhappily waved her hand to disperse the unpleasant odor and then summoned several luminous orbs for lighting, sending them into the room.
Soft white light illuminated the room, which looked like it hadn’t been entered for a very long time. The room was in disarray; the owner of the place seemed to have smashed everything to pieces before leaving.
“Let’s split up and search. See if we can find any lingering clues,” Leticia said, turning to the Leader and Lu Siyu.
The two girls obviously had no objections. They immediately buried their heads in searching. Looking at their bustling activity, Leticia seemed to be infected by their enthusiasm and put some effort into it.
With a wave of her hand, a pile of junk in front of her was grabbed by an invisible hand and lifted into the air. Leticia watched intently as the junk slowly descended, determined not to miss any suspicious clue.
However, to their disappointment, the man with glasses had indeed dealt with everything before leaving. After searching the entire room, they found nothing.
“A wasted trip?” Leticia scratched her head in annoyance, tossing aside the pile of junk they had searched.
The Leader, having already finished her work, was wandering around the room. For some reason, she kept her eyes closed, which reminded Leticia of the Leader’s amusing training methods from some days ago.
Compared to that time, the Leader’s abilities had clearly improved by a notch. Even with her eyes closed, she could deftly avoid small obstacles in her path, such as glass shards left on the ground.
“What is the Leader doing…”
“Hongying is fully utilizing her abilities. Let’s be quiet and not disturb her,” Lu Siyu explained in a low voice. “Every time she enters this state, I feel like she’s like a fake immortal.”
“She’s that powerful?”
“Of course. Last time, she told me I would definitely get an upset stomach in ten days, and I actually accidentally ate a piece of expired cake ten days later,” Lu Siyu nodded seriously. The Leader’s accuracy in predicting the future she could see was incredibly high.
Of course, Lu Siyu’s upset stomach was mainly because she hadn’t taken the Leader’s prediction to heart. Otherwise, that bout of diarrhea could have been completely avoided.
If the future cannot be changed, what is the point of having precognition?
“But it doesn’t seem like the time for prediction now. Is she predicting when we’ll say ‘GG’?”
“No, precognition has many other uses. I’m not a precognitive ability user, so I don’t know what Hongying is seeing now, but I believe she can definitely find a way to break through,” Lu Siyu said firmly. She truly believed in the Leader.
At this moment, the Leader, who had been wandering for a long time, suddenly opened her eyes. Her beautiful gray eyes flashed with excitement. “Qianqian, there’s something underground!”
“Underground? Is there a basement here?” Leticia scratched her head. She had looked for an entrance to a basement when she first entered, but found nothing.
The Leader quickly nodded. “There’s definitely something underground. I’m sure of it.”
Seeing the Leader’s confidence, Leticia immediately rolled up her sleeves, ready to dig a hole to see if what the Leader said was true.
“We dig down from here, right?” Leticia confirmed with the Leader, walking to where she had been standing.
The Leader nodded repeatedly. “Yes, yes.”
“Alright, you two step back a bit. The excavated soil might fly quite high.”
“How high is ‘quite high’… Wow, that’s really high.” The Leader was stunned for a moment and almost had dirt flung into her face.
Seeing the dirt that was only a tiny bit away from her cute face being blown aside by a cyan wind, the Leader turned to Lu Siyu somewhat sheepishly.
Lu Siyu raised one hand, creating a wind wall to shield the Leader. “Miss Qianqian really can do anything.”
“This is the convenience of magic. Unlike us, we are restricted by our superpowers,” the Leader whispered, looking at Leticia, who had already disappeared from sight.
In just a few minutes, the commotion stopped, and then Leticia flew out of the large pit. “There’s something underground, but it has already turned into ruins.”
Leticia had dug up a pile of shattered bricks and stones. These things clearly weren’t naturally formed; they must have been man-made.
Leading the Leader and Lu Siyu down into the hole, Leticia pointed at the rubble beneath their feet. “Should we dig?”
“Why don’t we let someone else dig… Huh?!” The Leader had only half finished speaking when she suddenly felt a chilling sensation from beneath her feet.
Looking down, she was horrified to discover that thin black tendrils were growing out from the broken bricks and stones.
“There’s something under our feet!” she shouted immediately.
Leticia reacted swiftly. Grabbing the Leader with one hand and Lu Siyu with the other, she unhesitatingly leaped out of the large pit.
Just a few seconds after she leaped out, a massive, foul-smelling tentacle shot out from the opening of the pit. If Leticia’s reaction had been even slightly slower, she would have been hit squarely.
The ground began to shake violently, as if some monster had been disturbed. Frightening cracks appeared on the floor, and a nauseating, chaotic aura began to spread through the air.
This aura felt similar to that of the big thing in the sea, but this thing seemed much weaker than that big thing, was Leticia’s first thought.
We can beat it, was her second thought.
Then let’s kill it! was her third thought.
With a raise of her hand, she shattered the ceiling and, taking the two heroines with her, flew out of the small warehouse. She wasn’t foolish enough to engage in a fight in such a confined space.
Casually tossing the Leader and Lu Siyu higher into the sky, Leticia took out a black rod from her artifact.
“A fire-poker?!” But when she clearly saw what she was holding, Leticia couldn’t help but smile wryly. She never thought she would mistake her weapon one day.
Never mind, this thing could serve as a disposable weapon.
Infusing the rod with magic, Leticia aimed downwards and threw it fiercely.
A piercing sound of air breaking through the sky echoed, followed by a deafening explosion.
The black rod, filled with magic, acted like a missile, piercing the ground and burrowing underground. A few seconds later, the unstable magic exploded.
A dizzying hum emanated from underground, and Leticia immediately smiled. She knew her attack had been effective.
And judging by the monster’s reaction, the effect seemed quite good.
“There’s something hidden underground?” The Leader, being held in a princess carry by Lu Siyu, muttered to herself. “Siyu, let’s run farther and, while we’re at it, evacuate the surrounding people.”
In fact, the people here didn’t need them to evacuate.
There weren’t many residents in this area to begin with, and the residents who lived here reacted much faster than those whose vigilance had been dulled by peace and quiet when they encountered such commotion.
Before the Leader and Lu Siyu even landed, the residents living around the small warehouse had already evacuated. The speed of their evacuation stunned even the Leader.
A middle-aged man, whose clothes were not even properly adjusted, asked curiously as he passed by the Leader, “What’s up? Is it another gang war?”
He looked like an old hand, completely accustomed to this life of having to run away every few days.
“It’s not a gang war. Never mind, you’d better run quickly. It’ll be resolved soon,” the Leader explained helplessly.
“I know. I’ve seen this kind of thing too many times.” But the uncle still had an “I understand” look on his face, which made the Leader speechless.
Fortunately, he didn’t linger there for long. Otherwise, the Leader would have truly let him understand what a gang war between bad guys was truly like.
Just as the residents here had evacuated, a police patrol, who had received orders from their superiors and was patrolling this area, arrived.
“Misses, what happened here? Why was there such a loud explosion just now?” Seeing the Leader and Lu Siyu, the police officers hurried to inquire about the situation.
“Uh, it’s a bit complicated to explain. In short, we are dealing with a supernatural creature here. Please help maintain order at the scene and prevent unauthorized personnel from approaching this area,” the Leader first presented her S-class hero identification. This identification granted her considerable authority.
There were naturally people who recognized its value among the police. Upon seeing the S-class hero identification, they raised no objections.
The Hero Association was, after all, an official human organization. They were practically colleagues with the heroes, and seeking help from the Hero Association when encountering problems that ordinary people couldn’t solve was common.
And heroes sometimes sought help from the police when resolving issues, usually for evacuating the public or maintaining order.
Therefore, in the eyes of these police officers, the Leader’s request was perfectly reasonable.
“Understood, Miss Xia!”
“Yes, Siyu, take me up to the sky to have a look. I think Qianqian is almost done over there.” After resolving the situation here, the Leader wanted to see how far along Leticia’s battle had progressed.
The Leader had great confidence in Leticia’s strength. How could a demon who could chat and laugh with小白 be weak?
Moreover, the Leader had seen Leticia in action in Fog City, and her terrifying spells gave an impression of absolute resistance.
Her Qianqian could definitely handle the monster underground easily; the only uncertainty was how much time it would take.
Lu Siyu nodded, then looked at the Leader, who seemed troubled. How should she carry the Leader up into the sky?
The princess carry earlier was because of the urgency of the situation; she hadn’t had time to think carefully, and her body had reacted first. Now that she had calmed down, she felt that the move was a bit embarrassing.
Yet, other poses didn’t seem any better than a princess carry.
After much deliberation, Lu Siyu finally decided. A princess carry it was. At least it would be more stable.
“Huh? Siyu, your expression is a bit strange… Wait, don’t use that pose!”
Ignoring the Leader’s opinion, Miss Lu Siyu scooped up the Leader and flew into the sky with a gust of cyan airflow.
This ability to ascend into the sky on the spot elicited envious glances from the police officers below. This was the power of superhumans, the power of heroes.
Once in the sky, holding Lu Siyu’s neck tightly, the Leader didn’t forget the main task. Although still a bit shy, at least there was no one else watching now.
Turning her head towards the small warehouse, the Leader’s eyes fell upon the scene of wreckage. To her surprise, the subterranean monster hadn’t shown obvious signs of fatigue yet.
The monster, having fully emerged from the ground, was several stories tall. It resembled a squid from the sea, but with far more tentacles than a normal squid.
Looking at the dark, slime-covered tentacles, a disgusted expression appeared on the Leader’s face. She had always disliked these slippery things.
The monster’s attention was completely focused on Leticia, and its tentacles were furiously launching attacks at the girl standing in the sky.
Counterintuitively, this monster not only attacked physically but also possessed considerable energy attack capabilities.
At the very least, it forced Leticia to activate a shield to block those dark rays of light.
While the monster’s attacks might make Leticia slightly serious, the threat was not significant. The shield Leticia casually cast was enough to withstand the monster’s onslaught for a while.
The most troublesome aspect of this monster was its magic resistance.
Leticia was indeed starting to get a headache. This monster was incompetent in all other aspects, but its magic resistance was truly exceptional. Her spells, when cast upon this monster, lost at least ninety percent of their power.
Ice spikes, fireballs, lightning, shadow – she had thrown almost every spell imaginable, but the results were, to say the least, unsatisfactory.
While magic could indeed damage this monster, the amount of damage dealt was insufficient.
In essence, it was like scratching an itch.
She could scratch it to death, and Leticia wouldn’t even feel tired after scratching this monster to death, but the feeling of “scratching” was really unpleasant.
If she wanted to use a more powerful spell, she was worried that she might directly evaporate the entire area, which would lead to a host of new problems.
Catching a glimpse of the Leader out of the corner of her eye, Leticia quickly shouted, “I need to use something big to deal with this monster. Can you reimburse me for the damages!”
Reimburse? The Leader looked down at the street that had already turned into a pile of ruins. This was no longer a matter of reimbursement.
“Don’t worry about reimbursement. As long as it doesn’t exceed the scope of these ruins, it’s fine!”
