Chapter: Chapter 31
“Where are the goods?”
“Weren’t the goods already handed over to your subordinates?”
“But they said they didn’t even see you.”
“How is that possible? I clearly handed the box to the person in white, and she even waved at me.”
In a secluded small village in the suburbs of Central City, the previously black-clothed man was arguing with a hunched old man.
He had come to ask the old man for the remaining commission, but the old man claimed that the task was not completed.
This made him furious. He had clearly delivered the goods unharmed to the old man’s subordinate, but now they claimed not to have even seen him.
Wasn’t this just an attempt to renege on the debt?
“But the goods didn’t reach me.”
“Heh, who knows if the goods reached you or not. I only know that I handed the goods to your two subordinates,” the black-clothed man sneered. “One in black and one in white, at a crossroads on that street.”
“Are you suspecting me?” the old man said coldly, his expression quite terrible. It was clear that his temper was no less than the black-clothed man’s.
“Heh, you know whether you’re suspecting me or not. I clearly delivered the goods to your stated people at the predetermined time and place, only for you to say that I didn’t deliver them to you.” The black-clothed man did not give the old man any face, crossing his arms with an expression that proclaimed his innocence.
“You…”
“What about me? If you don’t believe me, go check the surveillance footage and see if I handed the goods over to your subordinates.”
The old man waved his sleeve: “I’ve already sent people to investigate, but for some reason, the surveillance cameras in that area all had problems tonight.”
Their original plan did not include dealing with all the surveillance cameras along the way. After all, after the handover, both parties would enter blind spots to escape, so there was no need to damage the cameras and attract attention from others.
However, when the old man wanted to review the surveillance footage of the road at that time, he found that all the cameras on that road had malfunctioned for various reasons during that period.
Not a single working camera on the entire road.
This was too suspicious.
“Mr. Ghost Shadow, Elder Eagle, I have a guess. I wonder if you two would be interested in hearing it?” Just as the two were locked in a dispute, a petite black-haired girl slowly walked up to them.
She was wearing the school uniform of a relatively well-known high school in Central City, looking like an ordinary pretty high school student.
However, upon seeing the girl, the old man immediately showed a respectful expression. He bowed deeply and said solemnly, “If Miss Su is willing to offer some guidance, this old body will gladly listen attentively.”
“Then, Mr. Ghost Shadow?”
“This old man respects you so much, it seems you are not a nobody. Alright, I’d like to hear what insights you have.” The black-clothed man did not refuse.
He understood this old man. This old man, known as Elder Eagle, was a well-known figure in the underworld. Could a girl he respected so much be an ordinary person?
However, the black-clothed man believed his judgment of character was not bad, but no matter how he looked at the black-haired girl, he couldn’t discern anything special about her apart from her cuteness.
Could she be the daughter of some influential family?
But when had Elder Eagle ever shown such courtesy to such a second-generation rich kid?
Moreover, they were discussing classified information here, so why could this girl come and go as she pleased?
“Miss, could it be that you are Elder Eagle’s client for this job?”
“Speak less,” Elder Eagle replied coldly.
This reaction already explained some things.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, we will have many future collaborations,” the girl said with a smile. “Mr. Ghost Shadow, what were the heights and builds of the two people you encountered earlier?”
“Heights and builds?” The black-clothed man thought for a moment and gestured with his hands, saying, “The person in white was about the same height as you, Miss Su, and the one in black was a bit taller. Although they were wrapped up tightly, based on my judgment, they should both be women.”
“Women?” The girl glanced at Elder Eagle with great interest.
Elder Eagle’s expression was somewhat helpless. He had no subordinates who matched the black-clothed man’s description.
He had given the goods to the wrong people.
“Alas, wrong, wrong. The people I sent were all men, and they were about your height.” Elder Eagle stomped his foot.
This was a big deal, and he was unwilling to accept it.
“This is interesting. I’m not in a hurry to get the book, I just want to know why this so-called foolproof plan encountered such an oversight?” The girl touched her chin and raised a question that both the black-clothed man and the old man had subconsciously ignored.
“At our scheduled time and place, sending people dressed the same as ours to intercept the goods, don’t you two think this is too much of a coincidence?”
Frankly speaking, does such a coincidence truly exist in the world?
It couldn’t be that two groups of people had a telepathic connection and chose the same place and had the same attire, thus causing this blunder, right?
Such a thing, comparable to winning the lottery, was impossible to fathom.
“Mr. Elder Eagle, it seems your channels are not as safe and discreet as you thought.”
