A delicate vase shattered on the floor with a crisp sound, thanks to a pair of hands.
Accompanying the sharp crack of the breaking vase, the man’s furious voice echoed through the expansive room.
“Trash! All of you are trash!”
The man, dressed in a well-fitting suit, appeared to be in his forties. His black, thick hair was meticulously styled, and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose added a touch of elitism.
Yet, this elite was in a fit of rage. Before him stood dozens of security guards in black, their heads bowed, afraid to make a sound. They dared not look up, fearing their actions would further enrage this important figure.
“What did I hire you for? To eat for free! How many times have I told you about how important that item is? And you actually let someone openly snatch it away!”
“Where are your eyes? Are you blind? Where are your ears? Are you deaf? If I hadn’t received a call from the Hero Association, I would have thought some unlucky fellow had their home broken into!”
“And as it turns out, that unlucky fellow is me! It’s me!”
The man grabbed a cup from the table and smashed it onto the floor, and another innocent piece of furniture met its demise.
There were countless ceramic shards on the ground. This man’s temper was truly fiery; he hadn’t finished raging even after three full hours.
“All of you, go and investigate now. Within three days, I want to know who the culprits are, or all of you can get out!”
“Yes!” The security guards finally found their voice. They straightened their backs and shouted with full force.
“The Hero Association will send people to assist with the investigation. You know what to do.” The man turned his back, presenting an inscrutable figure to the guards. “This is a matter of my Prince Wen’s, and it’s not their place to interfere.”
“Understood!”
“Hurry up and go.” Prince Wen waved his hand, dismissing the guards.
After everyone had left the room, Prince Wen’s gaze shifted to a dark corner. “What, do I need to invite you out?”
“That won’t be necessary, esteemed Councilman. This old one can come out on her own.” A aged voice sounded, and a hunched old man slowly emerged from the darkness. “The transaction has gone awry.”
“I know. That book is now in someone’s hands, and I don’t know whose. It’s truly infuriating.” Prince Wen angrily slammed his fist against the wall. “How unreliable are your people? You even got the contact person wrong.”
Elder Eagle let out a cold chuckle. “Mr. Ghost Shadow was personally appointed by you, Mr. Wang. I won’t take responsibility for this.”
“Are you saying this is all my fault?”
“What’s the point of discussing whose fault it is now? The item is gone, and that lovely patron, the lady, won’t listen to our explanations.” Elder Eagle said indifferently. “I am just an intermediary. At worst, I won’t take my commission, but Mr. Wang, you seem to be in dire need of that lady’s sponsorship, don’t you?”
Prince Wen’s expression worsened considerably. The old man’s words had indeed touched a sore spot.
For Elder Eagle, the failure of this transaction was not a major issue. The possibility of failure in matters he handled was not low.
After all, if things could be 100% successful, it would be a ghost.
An occasional failure would not cause him any substantial impact.
But Prince Wen was different. He was willing to take such great risks doing business with demons because he needed the rewards they offered.
If this transaction failed, he would be utterly ruined.
“Give me some time. I will retrieve the item.” Prince Wen spoke with forced composure. “You didn’t come here just to make sarcastic remarks, did you?”
“I’m here to offer some assistance. After all, it’s a big deal, and I don’t want it to fall apart under my watch, especially at the final moment.” Elder Eagle did not hide his intentions. “I will provide you with intel support, but the commission will be ten percent.”
“You’re truly asking for the moon. Wasn’t two percent not enough, and now you want three?”
“That’s not right. I could easily sit back and watch you run around, but out of good intentions, I’ve come to offer help. You won’t find someone as selfless as me even if you light a lantern.” Elder Eagle laughed heartily.
“What people in the underworld say is true, you old scoundrel are truly shameless.” Prince Wen chuckled. “Since you want more, then let me see if you can provide help that matches what you’re asking for.”
“Alright, alright. With Councilman’s words, I can rest assured.” Elder Eagle clapped his hands and laughed. “Later, Ghost Shadow will also come to assist you. He will take you to where those two appeared. I wish Councilman great success.”
“Then I accept your good wishes.” Prince Wen’s expression was displeased. He was extremely disgusted by the old man’s greed, but he had no other choice.
Now, he could only mobilize all the forces at his disposal to find that book and complete the transaction, otherwise, his position as councilman would likely be unstable.
The matter was of great importance and allowed for no mistakes.
