Chapter 1122: Reason Evaporated
Anger, jealousy, and the feeling of having a precious treasure snatched away by another filled my heart, as if Pandora’s Box had been opened within my soul, releasing all sorts of evils that overflowed my mind.
“Get away from my brother!” I shouted, instantly rushing to Jayad’s side. A black shadow lashed out, sending Bailing Ding, who was in Older Brother Jayad’s embrace, flying.
“Parul! You, what are you doing?” Jayad looked at me, appearing somewhat flustered and at a loss. In his emerald eyes, I saw my current reflection.
Behind me, four thick, long insect legs extended from my back. The tips of the insect legs were sharp spikes, resembling the Spider-Man or Queen of Blades from my previous life. It was with one of these insect legs that I had just sent Bailing Ding flying from Older Brother Jayad’s embrace.
“Parul! Sister Parul, what’s wrong with you?!” Lorna desperately cried in my mind. Simultaneously, an icy sensation, bone-chilling, echoed in my head again. But this time, it could no longer alter any of my thoughts.
Bailing Ding got up. Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were glazed over, completely controlled by divine power. She looked at me, raised her rapier, and suddenly charged at me.
“Stellar Sword Flash!” The rapier in Bailing Ding’s hand instantly transformed into countless starlight, and innumerable cold glints lunged towards my body. Any one of them would have been enough to pierce through me.
I had seen Bailing Ding’s swordplay before. it was as fast as lightning, fleeting. Even Older Brother Jayad couldn’t keep up with her speed. Now, using her sword skill, she could unleash dozens of sword lights in an instant.
If it were before, I would have been completely unable to react, possibly being turned into a sieve the moment I saw the sword lights. But now, I could directly see all the sword lights, their movements, their trajectories, Bailing Ding’s wrist as she drew her sword, her footwork – I could see everything clearly, as if watching a slow-motion replay.
My reaction speed had increased. When moving objects appeared before me, the speed of time seemed to automatically slow down, putting me into a bullet-time mode.
Then I made my move. Since I could see the trajectory of her stabs, I could naturally block them. I directly extended my insect legs and swatted towards Bailing Ding’s estoc.
“Clang!” A crisp sound echoed as the two met. The four insect legs behind me launched a continuous combination of punches forward, as if these insect legs had grown on me from birth and I was naturally supposed to know how to use them.
In terms of attack speed, I was indeed inferior to Bailing Ding. Her sword speed was too fast; I couldn’t keep up. But if I used all my limbs, I could keep up, even surpass her. After all, no matter how strong she was, she only had one sword.
“Parul! Sister Parul, stop! You’re not acting normal! Your body is undergoing a severe mutation!” Lorna cried anxiously.
“I know. I feel incredibly good right now. Stop bothering me,” I said, while still fighting fiercely with Bailing Ding, I had the mental capacity to converse with Lorna.
I had experienced this feeling once before, when I was hunting the Formless Children and the Xath’gwa Church. My body had undergone severe mutations then, and I had similarly broken through the limits of my reason, falling into a state of madness.
But this kind of situation wasn’t permanent. It was known in occult circles as temporary madness. Temporary madness had many different forms and tendencies. Its characteristic was that it would return to normal after a period of time.
However, if one frequently entered the state of temporary madness, they would need a period of rest or some form of mental treatment to return to their original personality. If one remained in this state of temporary madness for too long, they might never return to normal, thereby entering permanent madness – what people often referred to as falling into insanity.
Permanent madness was actually a matter of luck. Some people, upon witnessing a truth they could never accept, would lose their reason completely and fall into permanent madness on the first occasion. Others would fall into permanent madness after repeatedly experiencing intermittent bouts of madness. Some even recovered naturally after being in a疯状态 for a long time.
This knowledge flowed through my mind, in utter chaos. I was in a very strange state. I knew that I had gone mad; I was perfectly aware that I had lost my mind, but I didn’t feel like anything was wrong.
Rather, I felt excellent. It was as if this was my true self, a sense of liberation after being suppressed for so long. Now I was free, no longer needing to restrain myself.
Moreover, this madness was different from the last time I massacred Xath’gwa’s followers. Last time, all I thought about was killing. This time, it seemed not entirely the same, although the impulse to kill was still present.
“Die! Ora ora ora!” I shouted wildly. The four indestructible insect legs transformed into countless afterimages, wildly stabbing forward. Bailing Ding’s sword lights, like a meteor shower, were gradually swallowed by me.
“Ah!” Soon, Bailing Ding’s movements slowed down and she couldn’t keep up. I broke through her sword’s defense, piercing through her shoulder’s collarbone, and pinned her directly to the ground.
“Trying to steal my brother’s man-eating cat, you deserve to die!” I spoke with confused thoughts. The other three insect legs were simultaneously raised, about to stab downwards.
Bailing Ding, already controlled by the enemy, was not afraid of death. She stared fixedly at me, still trying to pry away the insect leg pinning her with her hands, attempting to counterattack and free herself.
Just as I thought I would see her beautiful noble face pierced by my insect leg, my body suddenly stopped. Something internal intervened, forcefully interrupting my actions.
“Possession? Lorna, what are you doing? Let me go!” I exclaimed in surprise. Lorna was attempting to forcefully control my body.
“I’ve already shielded your nerves, Sister Parul, stop! This isn’t like you! If you do this, you’ll definitely regret it later!” Lorna shouted.
“Yes, Parul, calm down. I’ll take you to a quiet place nearby for mental treatment now, alright? I promise I can restore you to your original state,” Older Brother Jayad said, having recovered from the shock of my sudden change in temperament. He came to my side.
Hearing Older Brother Jayad say he would take me to a quiet place to recuperate, I felt a surge of joy for a moment and wanted to relax and accept his proposal. But immediately, I was overcome with sudden, inexplicable rage.
“I understand, Lorna. You actually want to fight with me for Older Brother Jayad, don’t you?” I suddenly asked.
“What!? No…” Lorna asked, utterly bewildered. She had no idea how I had reached that conclusion.
“Otherwise, why would you stop me? Get out of my body!” I yelled furiously, and the divine power within me began to erupt.
