Chapter 1219: Do You Still Remember Me?
As soon as he pressed the button, the Iron Maiden opened from behind, just like the chest could split open to the sides. The back also split open to the sides, revealing a staircase behind it. The Iron Maiden itself was the door.
This was a clever design. Ordinary people probably wouldn’t think to crawl into an Iron Maiden to activate a mechanism, and the numerous sharp iron spikes would exert a lot of psychological pressure. If one pressed the wrong button, the Iron Maiden would close and crush them to death inside.
With such a dangerous design, wasn’t Albrisque afraid that he would accidentally press the wrong button and get trapped inside himself?
That was the most brilliant part of the design. Because with Albrisque’s strength, he wasn’t afraid of the Iron Maiden at all. Even if he were enclosed, its spikes couldn’t pierce him, and he could easily break free.
Most thieves were not good at defense. If they were trapped inside, they would surely die. It was a pity that Older Brother Jayad was not an ordinary thief. Even if he triggered the mechanism, the Iron Maiden would not be able to crush him, so he was not afraid either.
Older Brother Jayad unhesitatingly crawled into the Iron Maiden. Since there was no one in the basement this time, he didn’t need to deliberately hide the sound of his footsteps. Moreover, the Iron Maiden had made quite a loud noise when it opened.
At least the female prisoner in the cell had been alerted. Her whole body trembled in fear, and she instinctively curled up. She seemed to be quite frightened.
Normally, the sound of the Iron Maiden opening meant Albrisque’s arrival and the torture she was about to endure. Furthermore, the continuous explosions outside had already frightened her.
Just as she tremblingly raised her head, she saw not Albrisque, but an unfamiliar young man wearing cloth armor, looking like a soldier. This surprised her greatly.
Because of the female prisoner’s special status, Albrisque never allowed anyone else into this secret prison. Since she had been locked up here, she hadn’t seen any outsiders. The sudden appearance of an unfamiliar person made her very scared. She didn’t know what she was going to experience. Perhaps Albrisque had finally grown tired of her and wanted to kill her to silence her.
“Do you still remember me?” Unexpectedly, as soon as he entered, the man removed the mask from his face, revealing his true self. He was a rather handsome man.
If the female prisoner had been scared and worried just now, seeing Jayad’s true face made her utterly terrified, as if she had seen a ghost. She screamed and retreated repeatedly.
“Yes, it’s you! Don’t, don’t come near me! I’m sorry! It was my fault for betraying you, please forgive me!” The female prisoner desperately tried to retreat, but her hands and feet were chained to the wall, and behind her was the wall. She had nowhere to escape.
Her intense reaction indicated that she clearly remembered the appearance of Older Brother Jayad, her benefactor. She also understood very well that she had betrayed them and repaid kindness with enmity.
As the saying goes, a guilty conscience fears any sound. Her strong reaction suggested that she had been constantly anxious and fearful that they would come to settle accounts with her. Now that Jayad had appeared before her, her nightmare had come true.
“Calm down. I’m not here to kill you. If you’re willing to cooperate and tell me what you know, I not only won’t kill you, but I’ll also rescue you,” Jayad said directly.
His voice had a special intonation that made her calm down and feel that he was trustworthy. But when the female prisoner heard that he was willing to rescue her, tears immediately streamed down her face.
“I’m willing to do anything! I’ll tell you everything! Please, save me! Albrisque is not human. If I stay here, he’ll eventually torture me to death!” the female prisoner begged, weeping.
“Alright, I want to ask you, why did you betray us? I risked my life to save you from the Iron Winged Bees back then, and my Younger Sister painstakingly healed you. Yet, you sold us out like this?” Older Brother Jayad demanded sternly.
“I didn’t! I was forced! Albrisque captured me and tortured me. I couldn’t endure it, so I was forced to speak. I didn’t do it on purpose!” the female prisoner said, tears streaming down her face.
“You’re lying,” Older Brother Jayad said coldly. Most people, seeing her current miserable state and hearing her tearful cries, might have believed her.
But Jayad was very calm. Let’s think about it. We were ambushed the night we returned to the city. This means she revealed our information very quickly. In this situation, it was either because she was afraid of death and spoke immediately under torture, or she revealed it willingly.
Her lies were exposed by Jayad, and she clearly panicked. She stammered for a moment, racking her brain for an explanation or to fabricate more lies to deceive him.
“Older Brother Jayad, pay attention to the time. This isn’t a good place for an interrogation. Let’s rescue her first, and we can ask her more questions later,” I said.
By now, the General had finished talking about his family history with Albrisque and had started discussing the surrounding terrain and situation of Cando City with him. Although Albrisque was confused, he didn’t dare to disobey the questions of such a high-ranking noble and could only begin to explain.
However, the General’s questions were unusually detailed. He often asked about seemingly insignificant geographical landmarks or topics that were only briefly introduced, and he insisted that Albrisque explain them clearly.
The Knight Captain beside him was also puzzled but attributed it to the strictness of the Germanic people, who wanted to understand the surrounding situation as thoroughly as possible. Thus, he also helped answer the questions.
The General’s time-buying strategy had its limits. He wasn’t very good at stalling for time through conversation, and if he dragged it on for too long, it might arouse suspicion. Therefore, it was better to rescue her first and ask questions later.
“Alright, I’ll let you go first. You can tell me anything later,” Older Brother Jayad said.
“Yes! If you have any questions, I’ll tell you everything I know!” the female prisoner vowed. If it were before, I might have believed her.
But now, I clearly saw the cunning glint in her eyes. She was clearly contemplating how to concoct a story that favored her, blaming everything on Albrisque, and portraying herself as an innocent victim.
While she was still thinking, Jayad suddenly acted, grabbed the chains binding her, and pulled hard, snapping them in two.
The female prisoner’s eyes widened in shock. These were solid, forged steel chains. In fact, she herself was a strength-oriented Adventurer with visible abdominal muscles. However, when she tried to escape, she couldn’t even move these chains, let alone snap them in two.
Without even blinking, Jayad continued his work, grabbing the other three chains binding her and easily breaking them all. He didn’t seem to exert much effort.
The female prisoner was now free, but in her shock, she even forgot to move for a moment. Jayad had simply demonstrated his strength, and she was already awestruck.
