Chapter 1248: Safah’s Reaction
“Parul, let’s not stay here. Where is Lorna? Let’s go meet up with her quickly!” Jayad felt uncomfortable being stared at by a crowd. He felt that if he stayed any longer, someone would approach him.
“I haven’t seen Lorna, but I saw your boss.” I said with a smile. There were too many people around, so I couldn’t see Lorna for the moment, but Safah, sitting in his wheelchair, was quite conspicuous.
He was wearing a well-fitting grey long tunic, sitting in a wheelchair pushed by Elena from behind, with two sturdy bodyguards in suits flanking him.
He was truly formidable, managing to obtain four invitations. Adding the one given to me, that made five. The King of the Underworld lived up to his name. Many people around recognized him, and even some rich merchants greeted him respectfully.
Older Brother Jayad’s face froze. He never expected to meet his boss here, and most crucially, he was wearing these embarrassing clothes. How could he face his boss like this?
Not to mention, I recognized Safah, but Safah didn’t recognize Jayad at all. Even though he saw us, he thought we were young nobles from somewhere.
“Let’s go say hello.” I encouraged Older Brother Jayad. he was still a bit reluctant, and I had to drag him along.
“Hmm?” Safah frowned as he saw two people dressed conspicuously walking towards him, wondering why. Then, he found the handsome man in French courtly formal wear somewhat familiar and began to think if he was a young noble he had met before.
Suddenly, he realized something and looked up in astonishment. After confirming multiple times, when we finally reached him, he asked in shock and disbelief, “Jayad! Is that you?!”
“Ahem, it’s me, Boss,” Jayad said awkwardly. Now it was confirmed, not only Safah but also Elena and the two bodyguards behind him were so shocked their eyes were about to pop out.
“You, why are you dressed like this?” Safah tried his best to maintain his composure, but he couldn’t hide the astonishment on his face. He looked like he wanted to laugh and be angry at the same time.
Jayad was embarrassed again. How could he explain? In the end, unable to come up with a reason, he could only tell the truth, “My sister made me wear this.”
“Oh, right, your sister. Then this beautiful lady next to you must be Miss Parul?” Safah finally remembered the true purpose of inviting Jayad here.
He truly was a professional gangster boss, able to mask his emotions. He managed to force his expression back to normal.
Initially, Safah was a bit angry. Jayad, as his bodyguard who was dressed so extravagantly, how could he fight or protect him?
But then he thought, how could there be combat at such a banquet? Did someone dare to cause trouble in the Lord of the City’s mansion?
Besides, even if something happened, there were so many important figures here, and their bodyguards were much stronger than his. He didn’t need to worry at all. The reason he brought bodyguards was to show off his status, and because his legs were inconvenient, he needed someone to push his wheelchair or carry things for him.
Safah’s true intention in inviting Jayad was to meet Jayad’s sister and have her look at his leg condition. How Jayad was dressed was irrelevant.
Ever since he contracted the illness in his childhood, he had consulted many doctors and spent a fortune, but they all expressed their inability to help. This made Safah furious.
However, he never gave up on treatment. Even though he was powerful and influential, and already in his twilight years, he actively sought out famous doctors. This time, when Elena mentioned a doctor who could perform limb replantation on monsters in the wilderness, he immediately took an interest.
In fact, doctors had told Safah long ago that his disability was not due to his legs. He had even forced doctors to replace his legs, transplanting two healthy legs, but it was still useless. The new legs atrophied as well.
But Safah still held onto the hope of a miracle cure and found a way to invite Jayad’s sister.
“Yes, this is Miss Parul,” Elena whispered into Safah’s ear. At the same time, she gave me an apologetic look. If she hadn’t said anything, Safah wouldn’t have approached me. But she was loyal to Safah and reported everything that happened on the egg hunting trip truthfully.
I smiled at her, indicating I didn’t mind. If she hadn’t spoken up in time, I might have had some trouble entering the banquet. Although there were coincidental factors involved, the invitation arrived at the perfect time.
“Yes, I am Parul. Mr. Safah, my Older Brother has been under your care, and thank you for inviting me to this banquet.” I greeted Safah, maintaining a good attitude as I still wanted to maintain a good relationship with him.
“Not at all. I should be thanking you for saving Elena’s life last time, and for finding so many monster eggs. You two siblings have made great contributions. This invitation is also to thank you for your help last time. I hope Miss Parul has a pleasant evening.” Safah said with a smile.
He could tell from my attitude that I didn’t object to helping him with his treatment. Since that was the case, he wasn’t in a hurry to bring up the treatment and planned to discuss it inside the banquet.
“Alright, I won’t disturb you two siblings any further. I’ll go in first. We can talk about anything inside.”
It was easy to talk to intelligent people. Safah’s tactful attitude satisfied me. However, I was well aware that this old man was definitely not as kind and easy-going as he appeared. He was actually a cold-blooded gangster boss who killed without blinking. If provoked, Safah would absolutely turn hostile in an instant.
Safah didn’t say much more. He waved his hand, and Elena pushed him, along with the two bodyguards, into the Lord of the City’s mansion. Even the attendants at the entrance of the mansion, who were hosting guests, bowed to Safah as he passed, indicating his considerable influence.
Older Brother Jayad breathed a sigh of relief. He had been prepared for his boss to question him, but he never expected to escape unscathed as long as the person being spoken to was Parul.
However, my next words made him nervous again. “Next, we need to find Lorna. Ah, I’ve already found her, under that tree on the east side of the street.”
It was fast to find people using the God’s Eye. I quickly located Lorna leaning against a tree in a less crowded area, a bit further from the Lord of the City’s mansion.
Thinking about having to meet Lorna dressed like this, Older Brother Jayad felt like his limbs were filled with lead. He wasn’t afraid of Safah; he only showed him respect because he was his boss. But he was terrified of Lorna, who could be considered his semi-teacher.
In the end, I had to drag him along again. As expected, when Lorna saw two people in magnificent attire approaching her, she looked slightly puzzled. When she recognized us, she asked the same question as Safah, “You, why are you dressed like this?!”
