Chapter 1340 Reynard’s Prank
I was stunned. I never expected such a bizarre spell. While I had already experienced the strangeness of Shadow-based Spells, being able to swap people’s abilities was simply too outrageous.
Reynard’s Prank. I heard her shout the spell’s name just now. Spells with a name prefix are usually invented by that person, and this is a characteristic of high-level magic.
“Are you kidding me? I don’t use Holy Light!” the murderer asked, enraged. Holy Light was continuously seeping from her body, a clear sign of her inability to control it.
“I know, but he can’t use the Lord of Murder’s power either. You usually fight with Shadow-based Spells, and the power of murder isn’t effective against them, so the impact isn’t significant. Isn’t it a good idea to exchange an unused ability for the opponent’s most threatening power?” Giselle stated matter-of-factly.
She did have a point. Currently, Older Brother Jayad’s body was also emitting black demonic fire, but he kept looking at his hands, unsure how to use it.
The murderer was momentarily speechless but still angrily shouted, “But you can’t just take the power my Lord bestowed upon me! Why didn’t you swap with him yourself?”
“I would if I could. I adapt much faster than you, but this spell can only swap with *other people*; I can’t swap for myself,” Giselle said dismissively. It was unclear whether this spell truly had such a restriction or if Giselle was simply making up an excuse.
The murderer clearly wasn’t willing to accept this. It was unexpected that she was quite devout, valuing the power bestowed by the Lord of Murder greatly, even though it had little practical use in combat.
Giselle’s attitude was clear: power is just power, whether it’s bestowed by a god or cultivated oneself. It’s merely a tool with no other significance. In her opinion, exchanging power that’s useless in battle for the opponent’s strongest power was worth it.
“Older Brother Jayad, how is it? Can you still adapt?” I asked with concern, relieved that my brother seemed unharmed.
“How to describe it? It feels strange, a bit like Parul’s usual aura, but it’s filled with the smell of blood and a sense of slaughter. I don’t like it,” Jayad said, looking at the demonic fire in his hands.
The Lord of Murder, Baal, was of the same origin as Beelzebub, so it was natural for Older Brother Jayad to feel a sense of familiarity.
As Older Brother Jayad expressed his dislike for this power, a new light emanated from him, rose-red Dawn Light, which began to shine from within the demonic fire.
“How is that possible?! You, how can you still possess the power of Holy Light?!” Even Giselle, who had appeared calm just moments before, as if everything was under control, showed a look of shock.
Reynard’s Prank had seemingly succeeded. The murderer had indeed gained the power of Holy Light, and Jayad had indeed gained the power of the Lord of Murder. But why did he still have light emanating from him?
“Heh heh, you didn’t know? Older Brother Jayad holds two positions. He is both a Holy Knight and a Paladin. Swapping only one of your powers is useless.” I smiled.
This was why I was at ease knowing the demonic fire wouldn’t harm Older Brother Jayad. What was it to him to have one power swapped? He had an abundance of strength.
“It can be like this?!” Giselle looked at Jayad in shock. Having multiple roles was theoretically possible, but the probability was so low that she hadn’t considered it. Furthermore, Older Brother Jayad rarely showed his abilities in front of her, so Giselle had no idea he was also a Paladin.
Did this mean her swap was in vain? The difference between a Paladin and a Holy Knight was minimal. Even if Jayad lost the power of Holy Light, his strength wouldn’t decrease significantly, far from the initial plan of completely incapacitating him that Giselle had envisioned.
Just as I was savoring Giselle’s miscalculation and she was regretting it, Older Brother Jayad suddenly let out a muffled groan, “Urgh!”
“What’s wrong?” I asked nervously, only to see the powers within him clashing violently. The rose-colored light and the black-red demonic fire were constantly devouring each other, erupting in sparks where they intertwined.
Older Brother Jayad’s entire body was ablaze with sparks, as if he had touched a high-voltage wire. The pain and pressure his body endured were unimaginable.
“The powers are clashing!” My smug expression froze. The unexpected turn of events happened too quickly, causing my mood to swing drastically.
In contrast, Giselle burst into unrestrained laughter, “Hahaha! I didn’t even anticipate this. Your divine power and the power of murder are clashing. It seems luck is still on my side.”
Older Brother Jayad withdrew the Divine Power of the Lord of Dawn. The rose-colored light rapidly dimmed, and the demonic fire gradually returned to normal, burning quietly within him.
I truly didn’t expect these two powers to clash so intensely, almost as if they were mutually exclusive. Was it due to the conflict between light and dark attributes?
However, I had heard that some people could indeed cultivate both light and dark attributes, as long as they could achieve a balance between their powers.
And it felt like the reason Older Brother Jayad couldn’t balance them now was that the power of the Lord of Murder was inherited, and he couldn’t control it skillfully. Moreover, the power of the Lord of Dawn had weakened to its lowest point because it was nighttime, unable to counterbalance that evil divine power.
Regardless, this situation was neither within Giselle’s expectations nor mine. Older Brother Jayad’s two powers were rendered useless by this one small spell.
“Mr. Jayad is no longer able to fight. How about it? Will you reconsider my offer? As long as you leave, I will release the spell, and Mr. Jayad’s power will be returned to you intact,” Giselle attempted to negotiate again.
“No need. I will reclaim my own power. I will not make peace with someone who schemes against me,” Older Brother Jayad flatly refused, gripping his greatsword and indicating his intention to continue fighting.
“Heh heh, then there’s nothing I can do. I’ll leave Brother to you. A Holy Knight without two powers, I believe you can handle him. As for that younger sister, she’s mine,” Giselle said.
Even the murderer had no objections to her arrangement. Giselle had completely sealed off the two strongest powers of the opponent with her magic. She, whose strength had not diminished much, would certainly be able to defeat the youth easily.
There were two other reasons: first, the murderer didn’t trust Giselle. It was better to split the battlefield and fight their own battles than to fight side by side. Second, she had already fought the witch twice and was admittedly outmatched. It was better to be realistic and face the youth whose strength had significantly decreased.
To their naive thoughts, I could only offer a smile without a word, lest I couldn’t hold back my laughter. Soon, the murderer would realize that this was far from Older Brother Jayad’s full potential.
