Chapter 1561: Sudden Outbreak
“The Princess’s condition is suppressed, and there’s a crowd around her. She wouldn’t show herself at a time like this even if she were stupid.” I knew the General wanted to bait and switch, but the difficulty was immense.
For the past few days, I’d tried to find the werewolf, but she’d vanished without a trace, demonstrating her cunning and patience. It wouldn’t be easy to lure her out unless she believed everything was settled or was forced to appear, at which point she would strike.
“That depends on your methods. However, if you need our help, all you have to do is summon us over there, and our actions will be much simpler,” the General said.
“It’s not that simple. I need… ah, people from the Seven Gods Church are here.” I said, wondering if these fanatics could perhaps save the Princess.
In Darmstadt, Hesse Duchy, seven people walked in: a majestic elder holding scales, an old woman holding a lantern, a beautiful woman with a kind smile, a warrior with a sword at his waist, a pure and innocent girl, a craftsman holding a hammer, and a masked mysterious person in a gray robe. Judging by her curves, she was also a female.
It is said that the Seven Gods Church has its own internal religious systems, such as the Sisterhood, the Retreat, and the Ascetics. Their complexity is no less than that of other complete and independent religions.
However, the closer a believer’s nature is to a certain aspect of the Seven Gods, the more Divine Favor they can absorb from that aspect. Divine Favor falls like dew, and believers who are more like the gods are like larger cups, capable of holding a specific type of water while filtering out others.
Although one could gradually align their personality and behavior with the gods through interpretation or self-modification, the strongest would undoubtedly be those who matched the gods in age, gender, and personality, acting as the gods’ vessels.
The seven people who walked in now seemed to have stepped out of a religious mural. Their attire was almost identical to the gods’, and they were likely masters in their respective domains within the Seven Gods Church.
As they entered, the old woman holding the lantern glanced at Karina before turning towards the Princess. The girl among the Seven Gods Priests asked, “What’s wrong with the Eldest Miss? Someone tell us the situation.”
“She has been cursed by a werewolf. The curse is tricky and contains divinity. Even magic can’t cure it. Can you see if there’s a way?” The Archmage knew time was of the essence and summarized the key points in a few words.
The other officials also looked at the seven of them expectantly. Although they had ordered soldiers to search the underground for the servants, they didn’t hold out much hope of finding the werewolf and could only rely on the Seven Gods’ priests to perform a miracle.
In Darmstadt, the worship of the Seven Gods was widespread. Even many of these courtiers were believers. The seven priests sent to assist the Grand Duke were all outstanding figures within the Seven Gods Church, and everyone hoped they could perform a miracle.
“Wolf poison with divinity? Is this a remnant from the past? Without delay, we will begin treatment immediately. Move the Eldest Miss’s hospital bed to the center and leave us some space,” said the elder among the Seven Gods Priests. He quickly deduced from the scant clues that this was related to an incident from the past.
The servants moved the Princess’s hospital bed to the center of the room. The seven of them quickly drew a simple magic circle on the ground, using chalk for the lines. Small trinkets they carried were placed at crucial nodes.
Then, the seven of them raised their symbolic items high. Those who held nothing raised their hands. They walked slowly around the Princess, chanting prayers in a language I couldn’t understand, likely internal church devotions.
I saw streams of magic converging on the Princess from the seven of them, each of a different nature. For example, the elder bestowed the power to fight evil, the Grandmother offered protection for divinity, the warrior provided strengthening, and the gray-robed person offered evasion of death.
They employed a different method than the Archmage. The Archmage had been continuously rewinding time in a small area to prevent the werewolf transformation from worsening, but he couldn’t completely eliminate the werewolf virus containing divinity. At most, the Archmage could rewind to just after the curse entered the body; he couldn’t make the curse nonexistent. This hurdle was insurmountable for him.
The Seven Gods Priests, on the other hand, used a method of continuously adding buffs to the Princess, making her stronger to resist the invading curse.
They used purification spells and dispel spells against the curse countless times, each time reducing the curse’s severity.
However, it was still just a little short. I almost thought they could truly save the Princess, but unfortunately, like the Archmage, they couldn’t completely cure the patient’s curse, getting stuck at Fenrir’s divinity.
A single move short; it was a shame. If one of the Seven Gods symbolized a god of medicine or healing, perhaps the Princess’s curse could have been lifted. Unfortunately, their specialties were not aligned.
Just as I was wondering if they had any other methods to save the Princess, the Seven Gods’ magic circle suddenly flared with power, enveloping the entire room. I suddenly felt an immense divine pressure pressing down on me, making it difficult to breathe.
Several frail civil officials and servants collapsed directly onto the ground. Some less powerful martial officers also knelt with difficulty, struggling to stand. Only the powerful martial officers could remain standing, but their expressions showed they were enduring immense pressure.
However, not all civil officials had fallen. Several others remained standing, either wearing high-level protective magic apparatus or exuding powerful magic to resist. These so-called civil officials were indeed full of hidden talents.
“What is the meaning of this?!” one courtier shouted nervously. He never imagined that the Seven Gods’ priests would dare to strike other ministers within the palace. This would absolutely be considered the act of a cult.
“It means nothing, don’t misunderstand. We are not targeting you, esteemed sirs,” the warrior said. The blacksmith continued his words, looking towards us and asking, “I just want to know, why is one maid still standing?”
“What?!” The ministers finally noticed that an inconspicuous maid was still standing perfectly still, while all the other servants around her had fainted from the pressure.
Even more surprisingly, this maid showed no trace of magic on her, a stark contrast to the civil and military officials radiating brilliant magical light. She stood in the room as if nothing had happened.
“This is not normal! Who are you? What are you trying to do by sneaking in?!” a military officer asked nervously.
“I am just a normal servant; I am not worth you esteemed sirs making such a fuss over me,” Karina said, looking at the Seven Gods’ priests and calmly asking, “Seven Gods’ priests, may I ask when I was exposed?”
