The curse with divinity returned to Weis’s body silently, with no backlash or complications, integrating into her as if it had always been a part of her.
Her aura even grew stronger. The shedding of skin during the recent fight and the torture after her capture had depleted a lot of Weis’s magic power, but absorbing the curse restored a significant portion of it.
I had felt before that Weis’s combat power was much weaker than when she hunted us in the basement that night. Although the nano-silver solution had a restraining effect, and it was daytime, the difference was still significant.
Now I finally understood. It was because she had divided a portion of the curse. Observations from the True Eye revealed that this curse was actually the source of her strength.
Divinity was not easily obtained. Generally, only descendants of gods or their most devout and meritorious followers could possess even a little. Dividing it meant a tangible loss, something that could not be regenerated.
I guessed that this was the power of the Wolf King from back then. Upon his defeat, unwilling for Fenrir’s power to vanish, he traded his life to transform all his strength into a curse.
With this realization, my feelings towards Weis’s actions became complex. She had divided nearly half of her strength to curse her own sister, all to make her share the same destiny as herself.
Or perhaps, in her view, only by sharing the same curse could they be considered equal in status?
“Ying!?” The Princess let out a soft cry and awoke from her slumber. She truly resembled a sleeping beauty. A kiss was all it took to wake her, though it wasn’t from a prince on a white steed, but her own elder sister.
As soon as the Princess opened her eyes, she saw a silver-haired maiden with two pointed wolf ears on her head, looking at her with a complex expression.
When their faces were close, one could tell they were indeed very alike. This was one of the reasons I always felt Weis’s appearance had a sense of déjà vu.
I sighed. I hadn’t expected the Princess to wake up so quickly. Originally, I didn’t intend for them to meet. Sisterly strife and all that, meeting would just be awkward. I had planned to take Weis away first.
Unexpectedly, after widening her eyes, the Princess suddenly spoke, “You, you are my elder sister, right?”
“Ah? Uh, I suppose so.” Weis was also caught off guard by the Princess’s sudden awakening and didn’t know how to respond, blurting out the truth.
“That’s great! I’ve always wanted to meet you, big sister. I was looking for you before!” The Princess excitedly hugged Weis, looking very happy.
“Eh? Wait, wait a moment!” Weis was a bit flustered, caught in the Princess’s embrace. She instinctively wanted to resist, but with the collar around her neck, her body lacked strength, and she couldn’t push the Princess away.
Don’t underestimate the Princess’s physique and think of her as just a delicate young lady. Like me, she is a Saintess, and her body has been continuously strengthened by the virus. Although not obvious, it’s still stronger than a werewolf whose powers are sealed by a collar.
I suspect that she woke up so quickly because of the Glutton’s physique. As soon as the divinity was reabsorbed by Weis, she immediately broke free from the influence of the werewolf virus.
“Elder sister, I received the gift you gave me, it was a wolf’s fang, right? Was that your fang? Huh? What happened after that?” The Princess chattered excitedly to Weis, but suddenly found a gap in her memory.
“You fainted afterward. Calm down first.” I separated the Princess and Weis, allowing Weis to finally catch her breath. The two of them were too close, or rather, the Princess held too tightly.
“I fainted? Right, but why? Why did I faint? And why the Saintess?” The Princess looked around, only then realizing that the situation was not right.
Her elder sister was wearing a white robe, seemingly with nothing underneath. The Seven Gods Priest, left by their father to assist her, and the Archmage who had always been their family’s advisor were all present. Most importantly, the Saintess and her Maid were also there, all in battle attire.
“We’ll talk about that later. I want to ask a question first. How did you know she was your sister? And you didn’t seem surprised to see her as a werewolf.” I asked.
In fact, facing the Princess’s attitude, Weis was flustered. Her expression shifted between pink and pale, perhaps recalling something.
“We met before. It was from my childhood memories. One time, I don’t know how, I wandered down to the lower levels of the palace and ended up in the eerie basement. I got lost, it was so scary.” The Princess recalled.
“As I was crying, a little girl with silver hair and wolf ears came and comforted me, giving me candy—the kind Father liked to give me. Then she led me to the stairwell and told me to go up. For some reason, she refused to go up with me.”
“Later, when I returned, Father scolded me. But when I mentioned that a girl with wolf ears had rescued me, Father said it was my elder sister and that I should be nice to her from then on. However, when I went down again, I could no longer find her.”
She spoke as if recalling memories. I know that after we transmigrated, our souls gradually fuse with the original hosts, inheriting their memories and emotions. For example, Older Brother Jayad and I are very close; seeing him makes me happy, and his presence makes me feel very secure.
But many overly distant memories might be hard to recall until someone provides a reminder. For instance, when I last asked the Princess about the legend of the basement werewolf, she said she didn’t know. Afterward, she went to check werewolf records, likely recalling this childhood event.
Everyone listened, exchanging glances, not expecting Reya and Weis to have such a past. How did things develop to this point?
“So, you don’t want to kill me?” Weis looked at the Princess with a confused expression and asked.
The Princess was bewildered and retorted, “Why would I kill you? You are my elder sister. We finally reunited today, and I have so many things I want to tell you! For example, thank you for saving me back then, and why do I have a werewolf big sister?”
Weis’s expression became even more animated. I knew from the start that this was all a misunderstanding. Weis believed the Princess sent people to kill her because she saw the Princess talking with me and Giselle, and since we were not part of the court, she went downstairs to search for her hiding place.
Such strange behavior naturally made the suspicious Weis uneasy, so she retaliated and fought us. Afterward, we searched her room again, which she probably interpreted as another attack.
So, after years of doing the Duke’s dirty work assassinating political rivals, she had become suspicious and vigilant, no longer trusting anyone who tried to approach her.
However, there must have been a catalyst that caused her to change her attitude towards her sister, filling her with hostility.
