The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 164

Chapter 164: Ramming Me

“W-what’s wrong?” Jayad said, flustered. As he carried me down the stairs, the sudden contrast between light and dark from the extinguished lights made him almost unable to see. He almost tripped, but managed to regain his balance just in time.

“Hush, be quiet, and slow down your steps. This must be the monster’s doing. Don’t let it scare you,” I said. I still couldn’t figure out how the monster had extinguished the lights simultaneously. Was there a master switch in this house?

We had already escaped to the first-floor hall, where the two half-orcs had been guarding. Just a few more steps forward, and we would be free. However, on the main door, I saw a faint spiritual light.

“It won’t open?!” Jayad exclaimed, pushing and pulling the door with all his might, but it wouldn’t budge. There was no lock in the middle. Jayad first tried to pry the lock with his short sword, then attempted to kick the door open, but to no avail. The door seemed to be fixed to space itself, not moving an inch.

“It’s useless, Older Brother Jayad. All the doors and windows here are sealed by magic. Unless I blast them open with magic, we can’t get out,” I said. In my eyes, all the doors and windows in the mansion were sealed by spiritual light.

“Then, Parul, hurry up and blast it open,” Jayad urged anxiously.

“I can’t. My magic power isn’t enough yet. Moreover, if we don’t defeat it, I estimate it will pester us to the ends of the earth,” I said. I took several gulps of Magic and managed to recover some magic power, but it still wasn’t enough to unleash Destructive Power. Other spells weren’t powerful enough either.

“Then how can we defeat it?!” Jayad asked urgently. His view was the opposite of mine. He believed that such a monster was invincible and that they should just flee.

In his eyes, a monster that couldn’t be killed, could fly, was much stronger than him, and could possess others was beyond his comprehension. He indeed had a fierce spirit, but that was mostly directed at humans, or at least humanoid enemies. The cosmic squid monster was certainly not included.

However, I wanted to take a gamble. The information stated that this type of creature was extremely vengeful. Just like when Jayad disarmed it last time, even after so long, it had repeatedly tried to scry us. This time, we had inflicted such a heavy blow on it, it would definitely not let us go.

“Don’t panic. First, help me set my bone.” I extended my twisted left hand to Jayad. When escaping earlier, bathed in Jayad’s Holy Light, all my pain had surprisingly subsided.

But my bone was still dislocated, and I couldn’t set it myself. I had to ask Jayad for help. Jayad looked bewildered. “Set your bone? I don’t know how. How do I set it?”

It was actually quite simple. Just as I was about to teach him, it was too late. A sinister laugh echoed from upstairs.

“Hehahaha! You two little brats, you can’t escape, can you? Wait for me in the hall, and I’ll skin you alive and pull out your tendons!” a rough and furious voice boomed from upstairs. It had indeed known we were in the hall. Jayad’s earlier attempt to open the door had triggered the sealing magic.

But its voice had changed, becoming a rough, beast-like voice. It was the vocal cord of a half-orc. Because its vocal cords were different from humans, its pronunciation was also strange, a bit slurred.

Jayad was somewhat panicked, but he resolutely picked up his short sword, ready to ambush the monster by the stairs and fight to the death. I, however, held him back. “Older Brother Jayad, come this way.”

“Huh? This is… what place?” Jayad was pulled by me to a room next to the hall, filled with clothes.

“A changing room. Some guests would take off their winter clothes when they arrived, or change into formal wear for a ball. Or the master might simply put on outerwear before going out. It’s something only the rich do,” I explained.

“How luxurious,” Jayad said, looking enviously at the high-quality fur coats displayed there. He had never worn any of these clothes. The fact that a whole room was dedicated solely to storing clothes was difficult for him to comprehend.

I closed the door and then pushed Jayad into the pile of clothes to hide. Then I said, “Older Brother Jayad, hide well. Later, remember, after it comes in, ram me hard.”

“Ram you?” Jayad asked, confused, thinking he had misheard.

“Yes, ram me. Ram me hard. Make sure you can knock me flying. Preferably a flying leap. That means you’ll fly out too, at least enough to land on the ground,” I instructed.

“Oh, okay!” Although he didn’t understand why I had arranged this, out of trust in me, Jayad agreed immediately. He hid himself in the pile of clothes.

Meanwhile, in my vision, a black void, accompanied by heavy footsteps, descended the stairs. Now I finally understood what that alien form in the darkness was in my eyes. That was its true form.

“My two little cuties, where have you been hiding? Don’t tell me you’re trembling in a corner, too scared to come out? Come out, let me pamper you,” the monster said in a rough half-orc voice, but faking a gentle tone. In the dark house, it sounded both jarring and terrifying.

But I knew it was just enjoying the thrill of the hunt and spreading fear. It actually knew where we were and was now walking step by step towards the changing room.

Of course, this was within my expectations. I had known for a long time that in this house, it, as the master, possessed some unknown control ability, such as instantly extinguishing lights, sealing doors and windows, and knowing our location.

When we played hide-and-seek in the library, it suddenly seemed to see me and charged towards where I was hiding at the time.

But this wasn’t without its flaws. First, it wasn’t real-time notification. The reason was that I had been hiding for a while before it suddenly discovered me.

Then, it only knew the location, not the details. In other words, it couldn’t penetrate walls and see through them like I could. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been ambushed by me so many times.

So, all that was left was to wait for this one opportunity. Enduring the pain in my left hand, I held the revolver, pushed out the cylinder with my right hand, and loaded the bullets one by one, preparing for the decisive moment of the final battle.

My advantage was that I could see its spiritual light through the walls. It had already reached the door. I reminded Jayad, “It’s here.”

There was no sound of the door opening, no noise at all. I saw the black hole-like figure abruptly pass through the doorway and enter the room. I didn’t see any light.

Suddenly, I felt an extreme sense of danger. At the same time, I remembered that the Hand of Glory could penetrate walls and, in darkness, allow the wielder to see light.

“Ram!” As soon as I spoke, I felt my whole body freeze. A wave of stiffness washed over me. It was then that I saw clearly standing at the doorway was a burly half-orc, holding the Hand of Glory and pointing it at me.

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
