Chapter 1763: Heart Transplant
Jayad finally got it right this time, seizing the magic sword simultaneously as he killed the Skeleton Mage. Several tentacles firmly grasped the magic sword, preventing it from escaping.
The magic sword struggled incessantly, its sword energy constantly severing the tentacles that bound it. The magic sword’s chains had already regenerated, but their regeneration speed was no match for Jayad’s tentacles. For every wave it severed, a new one would grow.
Before, we never understood why this magic sword would automatically return to the Lich’s side. Each time it reincarnated, it would automatically fly back into its hand, even before it had fully revived.
Now I understand. It turns out this sword is also one of the Lich’s phylacteries. But I’m severely wounded now, and can’t tell Older Brother Jayad about this.
“Parul!” Older Brother Jayad rushed over, embracing me again and healing me with Holy Light. However, this time, with new injuries compounding old ones, even Holy Light wasn’t so easily effective. Or rather, it was never meant to be a complete cure.
“Slaughter Dance!” Over on the other side, Giselle launched her attack against the Gravedigger possessed by the Lich. She struck the gravedigger with blinding speed from various angles, her movements as graceful as a dance.
I had seen her use this move before; she single-handedly wiped out a team of Ratmen without a scratch. Now she was using it again, still elegant, beautiful, and deadly.
Deprived of its magic sword, its spellcasting abilities severely weakened due to its host and environmental factors, the Lich was no match for Giselle. It was quickly covered in wounds by her swift, ghost-like movements and sharp blades.
Its protective magic, its bone armor, seemed like paper against Giselle’s sharp bone dagger. Even when it tried to cast a spell, its hands would be injured, interrupting its casting gestures.
At this rate, the Lich would soon be killed by Giselle, or rather, its temporary body, the Gravedigger, would die.
With great difficulty, I managed to speak, my voice weak. “Brother, stop her. Don’t kill the Gravedigger.”
“But…” Older Brother Jayad’s voice echoed and reverberated. He was already far detached from reality, and his rage from seeing me severely injured twice had thrown his mind into utter chaos.
“Killing him will only result in him being resurrected again. Leaving him alive will be far more helpful,” I persuaded him, panting. With trembling hands, I reached into the dark hood and caressed Older Brother Jayad’s face. It wasn’t covered in feathers or slimy; it was still the familiar contour.
Older Brother Jayad remained silent, but I knew his humanity had regained the upper hand. He was slowly regaining his emotions, and the way he held me, becoming increasingly affectionate, was proof of that.
“Also, the sword is also a phylactery,” I said plainly. Upon hearing this, Older Brother Jayad immediately opened the Gate of Heaven and tossed the struggling magic sword inside.
Through the gate, one could see a pure white Hippogriff. That was the Celestial Realm. Older Brother Jayad confidently tossed the magic sword over. Undead creatures cannot survive in the Celestial Realm, so there was no fear of the Lich escaping there.
Just then, the Lich let out an angry cry of pain. Two of its fingers were severed, rendering it incapable of spellcasting. Giselle immediately reversed her bone dagger and thrust it towards its throat.
“Swish!” A black shadow wrapped around, immobilizing Giselle’s hand. She paused, seeing a tentacle coil around her arm, preventing her from continuing her thrust.
Giselle turned to look in the direction of the extending tentacle. Jayad’s voice, filled with echoes, said, “Parul said not to kill him. Keeping him alive is more useful.”
Older Brother Jayad now fully understood. Even killing the Lich was pointless; it would just change bodies. It was better to keep it alive and seal its body, making it easier to find the phylacteries.
“Yes, okay.” Giselle seemed a little afraid of Jayad’s current state. As soon as she heard Jayad’s command, she quickly withdrew her dagger.
Seeing Giselle back down, the Lich immediately erupted, attempting to attack us. However, Older Brother Jayad’s tentacles were faster. They slammed it against the wall, an eight-pointed Holy Seal appearing on its body, completely sealing its magic power.
Giselle then came to my side and looked at my chest. She hesitated for a while, then seemed to make a decision. ” I have a way to save you. Don’t move.”
Then Giselle produced a dagger and aimed it at my chest. Older Brother Jayad, who had just subdued the Lich, immediately asked nervously, “What are you doing?!”
“Saving her. I’ll swap my heart with hers. My heart is a God’s Body and is not afraid of the magic sword’s erosion. I’ve already tested it earlier,” Giselle said.
“You… you can still do this?” I was surprised. Even internal organs could be swapped? This spell is quite powerful.
“Yes, originally we were raised to be a spare organ bank for the murderer. Each of us has several backup organs. If taking one would mean dying, wouldn’t that be a waste?” Giselle explained.
“So, you know the spell to swap internal organs. But if you swap hearts with me, what will happen to you?” I asked, looking at the Gravedigger. She wouldn’t want to kill someone on the spot to swap hearts, would she?
“Don’t misunderstand. I’m only saving you because if you die, I will die too. Of course, I won’t let myself die as well. Your heart will be swapped with me, and since there’s no magic sword erosion within me, I can heal with Holy Light and Life Elixir,” Giselle said.
I took over Giselle’s servitude contract. It was originally an insurance policy for the murderer to control his subordinates. To prevent them from betraying him, they would also die when the murderer died. I had merely inherited this restriction.
“This is a great idea! I’ll make sure you’re alright!” Older Brother Jayad’s eyes lit up as he promised Giselle. But then he immediately said with concern, “But even so, the magic sword’s erosion will still be inside Parul, right?”
“I can only guarantee that the Divine Heart won’t be destroyed. As for how to remove the magic sword erosion within it, that’s your problem. Of course, if the surrounding organs are also needed, I can provide them to her as well,” Giselle said.
The perfect God’s Body was something Giselle had always pursued, to the point where she had betrayed us for it. But now she was willing to give a part of her God’s Body to us; she no longer held onto that obsession.
“That’s enough. I have my own way to deal with the remaining magic sword erosion,” I said, smiling weakly. In truth, my Gluttony trait could completely digest this magic power. The only downside was that I needed to use my mouth.
But now that the Lich was subdued, as long as I could get through this ordeal, I would have no problem slowly dispelling this magic power.
“Then, let’s begin. There’s no anesthetic we can use, but it’ll be quick. Please bear with it, Master,” Giselle said, unbuttoning my clothes and then slashing towards my heart with her dagger.
“Organ Transfer Spell!” As her blade drew a strange symbol on my chest, I suddenly felt my heart grow stronger.
