The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 1891

Chapter 1891: Cleaver

“Come on.” Jayad also took out his weapon, that strangely shaped holy sword, Lich’s Bane. Even now, seeing the sword body that looked like broken jade and the bone hand gripping it made everyone feel very uncomfortable.

Even if they repeatedly tried to convince themselves that this was a holy sword, that the materials used were all sacred, that the sword body might be opal or pure jade, the chains symbolized the punishment of sinners, and the bone in the hilt might be the remains of a saint, they still felt somewhat creepy.

To ensure that the audience seats around them would not be affected by the battle between these two powerhouses, dozens of mages were in position, and their protective shields were fully charged. As long as the attacks were not concentrated on one spot, they should not be able to break through the shield.

“Match, start!” the referee announced, and the two immediately charged at each other. The holy sword and the cleaver clashed directly.

“Clang!” The sound of their collision was as loud and heavy as a bell. After a brief pause, a shockwave erupted from where they met, and the ground cracked open like a spiderweb.

A large amount of dust and debris, accompanied by the shockwave, surged in all directions like a tsunami, heavily impacting the mages’ barrier and creating a dust wave over ten meters high.

“Boom!” Many spectators covered their heads and faces in fear of being blown away by the shockwave. The mages felt their hands shake as a force impacted the barrier.

However, a barrier jointly constructed by dozens of mages was not so easily broken by the aftershock of two knights’ battle; that would be too fragile. Even so, the mages were secretly shocked by the power of the aftershock.

This was not their full strength, just an initial probing. After the first move, the two quickly engaged in a close fight, each clash of weapons carrying similar power to the previous one.

“Clang! Clang clang!” The heavy collisions echoed throughout the venue. The audience couldn’t help but cover their ears, yet they craned their necks, watching the battle intently, afraid of missing any detail.

Two shadows, one golden and one green, moved rapidly across the venue, constantly approaching each other, chasing each other. Every point of impact caused a large piece of the surrounding ground to collapse, and shockwaves repeatedly slammed against the barrier.

Alicia fought more ferociously than the Archmage. Golden magic exuded from her entire body as she wielded her heavy cleaver, slashing and chopping, launching a fierce offensive against Jayad.

The unique cleaver was used in a way somewhat similar to a greatsword; both relied on rotational momentum for continuous attacks, and the strikes became heavier with each blow.

However, their shapes and grips were completely different. While the greatsword was mainly swung from top to bottom at an angle, the cleaver’s attacks were primarily horizontal.

Previously, Albrisque’s attacks were frequently interrupted by the Lieutenant General, preventing his moves from fully forming. But Alicia was different; she truly showed everyone how sharp and heavy the cleaver’s moves were when fully formed.

Each strike was heavier than the last, sending sparks flying as it hit the holy sword. Just the wind from her swings could carve a mark on the ground, and even the Hawk Armor was chipped by the flying wind blades.

Around Alicia, the cleaver carved out a space. Everything within this area would be split in two by the cleaver. Jayad tried several times to penetrate it but couldn’t get close enough to truly threaten Alicia.

He also tried using divine spells, but it was just ordinary Holy Light, which had no effect on her golden armor. This armor possessed extreme resistance to both magic and divine spells.

“That cleaver is a legendary weapon, isn’t it?” Sherris said after watching for a while. It could clash with a holy sword without being at a disadvantage. Although Lich’s Bane’s power had slightly decreased due to its sanctification, it was still a top-tier legendary weapon.

“Yes, it is indeed a legendary weapon. But she is from the Bourbon family, so it’s not strange for them to possess one or two legendary weapons,” Via said. Her own clan had several legendary weapons, but unfortunately, Via couldn’t use them.

“Older Brother Jayad is not yet proficient with the holy sword. This is troublesome,” I said with a frown. It wasn’t just the weapon; he also hadn’t fully familiarized himself with his current body after regaining his human form.

Older Brother Jayad had only had the holy sword for a few days. The feel and weight of this sword were completely different from Amadeus greatsword, and Older Brother Jayad had never systematically studied swordplay.

Before, he either fought monsters or enemies whose strength was inferior to his, or whose weapons were unfair. Pure technique couldn’t reveal his strengths or weaknesses, so the impact wasn’t that significant. But when facing an evenly matched opponent like Alicia, even minor details would be infinitely magnified.

Clearly, Alicia had practiced with the cleaver for a long time, quite possibly with the very cleaver in her hand. Her proficiency was almost second nature, as if it were an extension of herself.

She could throw the cleaver and use its momentum to have it return to her hand. Its power was so immense that she could grip one end and swing it like a greatsword, or hold the middle and spin it like a fan.

If Albrisque had suffered from his weapon being shorter than the spear when fighting the Lieutenant General, Jayad was now facing a nearly identical problem. The holy sword was less heavy than the cleaver and also shorter.

Unable to interrupt his opponent’s attack rhythm like the Lieutenant General, Jayad quickly fell into a disadvantage. He had already activated his Hawk Armor to accelerate himself, creating distance from Alicia and using stronger divine spells to try and delay her pursuit.

But he still had reservations. He couldn’t use terrain-altering divine spells like Weeping Wall in the wilderness, nor could he summon undead, or transform into a tentacle monster on the spot. Most importantly, he couldn’t expose his trump cards to Rodrigo and Albrisque.

“Don’t run!” Alicia couldn’t help but shout. Her speed couldn’t match Jayad’s. Seeing Jayad running ahead, she condensed golden light onto the blade and unleashed several consecutive cleaver slashes.

The slashes sealed off Jayad’s escape routes. The space the slashes passed through became extremely unstable, forming several invisible walls to block Jayad’s movement.

Facing this unavoidable formation of slashes, Jayad drew a circle in front of him with his hand. A pure black stone mirror appeared before him, filled with swirling mist.

The slashes cut into the black mirror and were reflected back along the same path. Alicia could only defend with her blade, being pushed back several dozen meters by her own slashes before she managed to stop.

“Very good, you’re finally showing your true capabilities. This must be your first Divine Favor, it seems to be from the South American pantheon. Let me show you my Divine Favor!”

Alicia laughed loudly as a ray of moonlight, accompanied by the phantom of a beautiful goddess, merged into her body. She pulled the middle of her cleaver, surprisingly drawing a golden bowstring from the weapon.

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
