Chapter 1903 – Predicting the Landing Spot
Everyone thought they would fight for at least a few minutes, as the Forest Dragon was not weak. Unexpectedly, facing the Hippogriff, it was a one-sided battle.
Jayad rode the Hippogriff, pursuing the Forest Dragon. The Flying Dragon repeatedly tried to snatch the Hippogriff with its claws, but it felt like a chicken’s claw trying to catch a rat – completely ineffective. Instead, it was continuously pecked and injured by the Hippogriff’s flanking attacks.
Especially with Jayad wielding the Holy Sword, one swing could cut through dragon scales, inflicting a large wound on the Flying Dragon. Albrisque had to use several Healing Scrolls just to save it, consuming one scroll with every contact.
Albrisque’s lightning attacks were completely useless against Jayad. For other contestants, this lightning was one of the most troublesome attacks. Many had no means to defend against it, and once struck, they would be paralyzed.
However, Jayad was protected by Holy Light all over his body, and even his Sacred Beast was thoroughly shielded by the Holy Light Shield, rendering the lightning attacks ineffective.
Instead, Albrisque was overwhelmed by Jayad’s continuous Sacred Spell attacks. The Hammer of Justice alone required Albrisque to raise his sword to block; otherwise, it would have hit the Flying Dragon directly, undoubtedly knocking it unconscious.
Helpless, Albrisque could only steer the Flying Dragon away from the arena. However, the Flying Dragon’s speed was no match for the Hippogriff, and it was pursued from behind, its rear end impaled and injured.
If Albrisque hadn’t been constantly riding and controlling the Flying Dragon, suppressing its fear, the dragon would have been terrified and collapsed on the ground by now.
But the situation wasn’t much better. As Jayad approached, he flung a chain from his Holy Sword. The chain pierced through the membranous wings and, with the Holy Light attached, blew large holes in the wing membranes.
Albrisque quickly used another Healing Scroll to try and mend the wounds on the wing membranes. But Jayad had anticipated this. He strategically left the chain in the gaping wounds, preventing the Flying Dragon’s self-healing from fully closing them.
Furthermore, as the chain tightened, one of the Flying Dragon’s wings completely lost its ability to fly, causing it to fall from mid-air.
At that moment, Albrisque suddenly leaped from the saddle, his entire body crackling with lightning, like a thunder god descending. He charged towards Jayad, swinging both his swords simultaneously.
The audience gasped in surprise. They hadn’t expected Albrisque to be able to fly, nor that his speed would be so astonishing. He reached Jayad almost instantly, positioning himself above him and attacking from two different angles with his swords.
Albrisque had prepared this surprise attack for a long time, aiming to defeat Jayad in one decisive blow. The timing was perfect: Jayad’s sword was still bound by the chain, pulling the falling Flying Dragon, and he had two swords while Jayad only had one.
The twin greatswords, wreathed in lightning, broke through the Holy Light Shield with one strike. However, to Albrisque’s surprise, both swords were blocked.
He looked closely and saw that Jayad had released the Flying Dragon at some point. His Holy Sword had blocked one of the greatswords, while the other was parried by a short sword.
Before Albrisque could get a good look at the short sword, Jayad leaped from the Hippogriff’s back, performing a mid-air flip and a downward kick that struck Albrisque’s shoulder.
If Albrisque hadn’t reacted quickly, the kick would have hit his head directly. As he fell, Albrisque stared at Jayad in disbelief, seeing a pair of Holy Light wings unfurl behind him.
In that moment, although he couldn’t see Jayad’s expression beneath his helmet, he felt as if he heard him say with a smile, “Surprised, aren’t you? I can fly too.”
This was all a ploy! Albrisque realized. His judgment that Jayad was poor at handling aerial ambushes was based on Jayad’s previous fight, where he only used the Hawk Armor to control the wind for flight and was successfully ambushed by Alicia at close range.
So, all of that was an act. Facing such a strong opponent as a Royal Knight, he could still perform!
What Albrisque didn’t know was that Jayad already had intelligence about his ability to fly. When Jayad went to support his territory, he had witnessed Albrisque flying with lightning during a great battle against a horde of beasts, so he was already prepared.
Seeing Albrisque fall, Jayad spread his wings and pursued him. Albrisque, seeing this, quickly transformed into lightning and plunged towards the ground, intending to escape Jayad’s pursuit and avoid the fall damage.
However, as he descended like lightning, he looked up to see Jayad already standing before him, seemingly having waited for a long time. As Albrisque landed, Jayad drew his sword and attacked.
Albrisque’s soul was terrified. He quickly raised his sword to block, only to be forced several steps back by Jayad’s strike.
The two engaged in close-quarters white-bladed combat. Both used dual swords; Albrisque wielded twin greatswords, while Jayad used a short sword in his left hand and a long sword in his right.
In reality, Jayad’s technique was more in line with standard dual-wielding principles. Twin greatswords appeared impressive but were largely for show and fighting weaker opponents. Against enemies of similar skill, one would feel restricted in every aspect.
It was the same as when he fought the Major General before; the twin greatswords, though seemingly powerful, appeared ostentatious against the Major General’s simple and straightforward spear thrusts, completely disrupting his rhythm.
It was the same now. The more Albrisque fought, the more frustrated and annoyed he became. His opponent surpassed him in speed, power, and even weapon strength. Though his fundamental swordsmanship was slightly better than Jayad’s, he felt restricted everywhere.
Albrisque retreated as he fought, his greatswords bearing several notches. His inherited enchanted weapon couldn’t withstand the opponent’s long and short swords. Moreover, his armor bore several sword marks.
With one lapse in attention, Albrisque’s greatsword defense was once again broken by Jayad, who then sliced his waist. His armor seemed like paper against the Holy Sword.
Albrisque stumbled a few steps, nearly falling. Jayad swung his sword. Before the blade even landed, Albrisque felt a chill in his chest, as if he had already been struck.
He reluctantly raised his sword to resist, but only heard a “Clang!” A broken sword flew through the air. One of Albrisque’s weapons had been cut in half by the Holy Sword.
Then, the Holy Sword, cutting through his armor as if it were butter, carved a wound across Albrisque’s chest, drawing blood.
“Ah! Ahhhh! I’ve been wounded!” Albrisque cried out in terror. He thought he had been killed, as his physique certainly couldn’t withstand one of Jayad’s strikes.
Many knights shook their heads at his pathetic display. While many knights had been defeated before, few had been as panicked as him. He was, after all, among the Top 16.
However, they weren’t seeing from Jayad’s perspective and didn’t know what was happening. Suddenly, Jayad felt the surrounding scenery disappear. A large, blue-purple eye stared at him coldly, and then a powerful psychic force pierced directly into his brain.
