Chapter 1919 Flying Arrow Message
“Miss Karina, hello. I am Sherris, and as you can see, I am a Ghoul.” Sherris also performed a curtsy, but Via’s was slow and not a bow, it was a lady’s courtesy, while Sherris’s was a maid’s courtesy.
Miss Karina frowned slightly and asked, “Are you the daughter or a relative of the Ghoul King?”
“Ghoul King? What are you talking about?” Sherris didn’t understand what she meant for a moment and asked back curiously.
“Hmm? No? But without a doubt, you have the Ghoul King’s bloodline flowing through you. A very powerful aura, very strong.” Miss Karina looked at her, even licking her lips, as if she found Sherris very appetizing, which scared Sherris into taking two steps back.
“Karina, don’t scare her. This is my little maid, Sherris. She acquired the Ghoul King’s bloodline due to an accident, but this also brought some trouble. She was recently recruited into the Church by me. Please be understanding of any rule-breaking.” I stepped in to explain.
“I apologize, I lost my composure a bit. I didn’t expect the Saintess’s subordinates to be so full of hidden talent, with even a maid being from the Ghoul King’s lineage.” Miss Karina resumed a normal expression but still looked at Sherris with great interest.
“She isn’t the Ghoul King yet,” I said. I had already told Sherris about the Ghoul King in the Church of Gluttony, so she wouldn’t find it incomprehensible.
“And finally, this one…” Miss Karina looked at Giselle. She was the most peculiar among these girls. Ever since she arrived, she exuded an aura of aloofness, with a heavy killing intent, like a blood-stained dagger.
Moreover, she had a very special but somewhat familiar aura about her, not Gluttony magic power, but seemingly of the same origin.
“Giselle.” The thief girl simply stated her name. She had been teleported back to Cando City by me before Miss Karina returned to the palace last time, so they had coincidentally not met.
“Hiss! A follower of the Lord of Murder?” Miss Karina finally recalled this familiar aura from her memory and confirmed Giselle’s identity.
“Amazing, as expected of Karina, you recognize even this.” My Valkyrie and Ethereal Walker applauded together.
It wasn’t mockery but genuine admiration. Karina’s perception of auras was extremely keen, and the fact that she could even identify the aura of the Lord of Murder was very impressive.
There were so many sects of Baal’s followers. Just by sensing the magical characteristics of any follower, one could distinguish which sect they belonged to. Leo once confidently led Jayad to a church, believing those priests wouldn’t recognize him as a heretic; this showed how powerful Karina’s perception and knowledge were.
“During the last meeting, Lavias and the General said you received a Divine Revelation from the Lord of Murder and even dispatched all your assassins because of it. Is she following you because of this?” Miss Karina asked.
However, she secretly transmitted a message to me: “Saintess, be extremely cautious. She might be a spy sent by the Church of Murder to remain by your side. It might not be appropriate to have her participate in this operation.”
Karina had studied the history of the various schisms within Baal’s Church, as well as the distinct idols and customs of each sect, which was why she could simultaneously be a high-ranking follower of both the Gluttony Demon King and the King of Destruction.
The more she knew, the more cautious Karina became about issues like spies and infiltration. Sharing the same origin did not necessarily mean being comrades; heretics were often more detestable than those of different faiths.
Furthermore, Karina was well aware of the character of the followers of the Lord of Murder. They were all murderers, assassins, and thieves; even within the realm of cults, they were notoriously infamous and not to be trifled with.
“There’s no problem. She’s different from regular followers of Murder; she’s sort of an unofficial member. We had a misunderstanding that led to me forcibly signing a contract with restrictions with her. So, you don’t need to worry so much.”
Hearing this, Miss Karina was relieved. “I seem to recall you mentioning to the Princess, the serial murderer who was captured using her puppet? Was this she?”
“Yes, she is now serving me. You don’t need to worry about her abilities,” I replied.
“Your subordinates are truly full of hidden talent, Saintess,” Miss Karina sighed. “By the way, don’t you have a ghost girl by your side? Her name is Lorna, right? Why isn’t she here this time?”
“No, this is a Church event. She is completely unrelated, so I didn’t bring her,” I said. The actual reason was that I thought Lorna might be useful at the City Lord’s feast tomorrow, so I let her stay.
As for the reason, Via and Sherris were genuine followers of Gluttony, and Giselle was at least affiliated with the Church of Murder. Lorna was indeed an unrelated individual, so this reason was perfectly suitable.
“Alright, all of you, get acquainted with the Saintess’s subordinates. From now on, you will be comrades fighting side by side. Don’t be rude,” Miss Karina announced loudly.
The Gluttony believers who had been watching for a while finally approached and greeted the newcomers, getting acquainted with each other.
Their only response to the Saintess’s subordinates was a platitude-filled expression of thanks. As expected of the Saintess’s subordinates, they were all girls, and all beautiful women.
This was completely different from the typical Gluttony believers around them, who were stout and pot-bellied. The difference was truly striking.
Of course, as followers of Gluttony, the way they welcomed new comrades was through feasting. Soon, the banquet resumed, and large batches of pre-roasted meat were brought out.
The six rioters were extremely awkward. They loathed demons and their followers, but they were ordered not to react. Fortunately, they had now become temporary followers of Gluttony, and their auras were similar to those around them, making them feel a little closer. Otherwise, they would have felt like vomiting.
Moreover, they soon felt the influence of Gluttony magic power. They had just eaten a large meal not long ago, but now they were hungry again. Faced with the offered roasted meat, they were actually able to devour it with gusto.
Just as everyone was having their banquet, a silver arrow flew across the sky, trailing starlight, and shot into a mountainside.
The silver light dissipated, leaving behind a crescent-shaped arrowhead. The arrow shaft was made of purple fir wood, clearly of Elven style, and a letter was tied to it.
Miss Karina opened the letter and quickly scanned it, then announced loudly, “It’s a Flying Arrow Message from the Elves. Those Elves have found the attackers’ camp and are preparing to attack them.”
“The Elves intend to make the first move? They chose to do it at night?” I asked.
“Yes, Dark Elves are most active at night. It seems we have to depart. We’ll observe tonight. If they make a move, we might have to help. At the very least, we need to see if those people are the targets I’m looking for,” Miss Karina said.
“Brothers and sisters, get ready, clean up the scene, leave no traces, and we depart in ten minutes!”
