The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 1980

A small mound of earth rose from the ground, and it was moving rapidly, as if some monster was traveling underneath. By the time it reached us, Sebastian had already nervously drawn his gun.
But I wasn’t nervous at all, because I could directly sense the aura underground and even see the scene of excavation with my eyes. That’s why I dared to assert that they were almost here.
As expected, the hole stopped in front of us, and then with a “Boom!”, the mound exploded, dirt flying everywhere, and a creature that looked like a giant pangolin or an armored rhinoceros, with a single-horned magical beast standing on its head, climbed out, with two people riding on its back.
Both of them were wearing hooded raincoats, and they looked quite dirty when they emerged, their clothes covered in mud. However, they were dressed like this precisely to block out the dirt.
“Little Elaine, you two are late,” I said, looking at the two people emerging from the dirt.
“Sorry, Miss Parul, we were stopped for inspection. The checks today were much stricter than before. If it weren’t for the Rock-horned Beast’s ability to burrow underground, I might not have been able to leave the city,” Little Elaine pulled down her hood, revealing her face.
“It’s fine, as long as you’re here. I didn’t expect your mount to have the ability to burrow underground, and quite quickly at that,” I exclaimed, finding his ancestral mount quite useful.
The other person on the Rock-horned Beast was of course his maidservant. Although the little maidservant had been devoted to this young master ever since the last incident, Little Elaine still didn’t feel at ease leaving her alone, for fear that she would report to the Count of Deep Lake City, so she brought her along.
“Next, we need to cross the contaminated zone. It may already be surrounded by monsters. We don’t need to engage in prolonged battles. Our goal is to break through. That’s success,” Jayad arranged the escape route.
Before the Crown Prince entered the city, Cando City, along with several surrounding cities, had concentrated their forces for a large-scale sweep of the surrounding areas, clearing out a large number of monsters to ensure that the Crown Prince would not be disturbed during his inspection.
However, with the Crown Prince organizing the Knight Competition, which was grand and significant, it attracted a large number of knights to participate and also dispatched many soldiers to guard the venue. As a result, the clearing of monsters had been neglected during this period, and monsters were now rampant again.
Not to mention anything else, I could see through my God’s Eye here that monsters were moving in the nearby forest, and they seemed to have already set their sights on us, watching us menacingly.
These weasel-like monsters should not be strong. We should be able to deal with them easily. These monsters also seemed to know their own weakness, so they did not rush forward easily.
“The maidservant and I will ride the Rock-horned Beast and charge ahead of you,” Little Elaine said, holding the maidservant tightly in front of him.
“Alright,” I said. The Rock-horned Beast itself was tough and could help us bear some of the damage. “Claire, please get into the carriage. Sebastian, could you please cover the pursuing monsters from the back seat?”
“Of course, no problem.” Sebastian loaded the bullets and sat on the rear door of the carriage. I also sat beside him, responsible for covering the rear and dealing with the pursuing enemies.
Then the others adjusted their positions. The driver’s seat was originally for two people, and it could even fit three if squeezed. Leoman sat next to Older Brother Jayad, responsible for using Divine Spells to protect the carriage and the packhorses in front.
The Twin Nuns stood on either side of the carriage, guarding the blind spots. One hand held onto the carriage, and the other held the Christmas gift they had just received, a submachine gun, making them look like two mobsters on an assassination mission.
Earlier, when Jayad gave Leoman and her companions Christmas gifts, the three of them found it both funny and awkward. They were from the heretic Arianism sect, and Santa Claus had sent them gifts without even seriously investigating them.
Of course, since they were given for free, they might as well use them. They weren’t picky, and even these Twin Nuns seemed to really like the submachine gun, not only playing with it repeatedly but also preparing to use it in actual combat.
Finally, there was Lorna. She had no physical form and floated directly outside the carriage, providing us with necessary support and possible rescue missions.
Only Claire sat inside the carriage. She was the weakest, and we went to great lengths to protect her, placing her in the safest spot. However, Claire insisted that she could fight too, so I could only tell her that she could still fight even from inside the carriage.
After all preparations were complete, Older Brother Jayad got into the driver’s seat and flicked the reins. The packhorse ran without needing to be urged, immediately galloping towards the south of Cando City at an extremely fast speed.
“Huh!? Wait!” Little Elaine also kicked the Rock-horned Beast, making it charge forward quickly. But even with the packhorse pulling a carriage, the Rock-horned Beast couldn’t keep up with the packhorse. The packhorse had to slow down a little for the Rock-horned Beast’s robust legs to catch up.
Billowing snow rose behind us. Even running in the snow, the packhorse was still swift, and the Rock-horned Beast had to struggle to keep up.
The first to pursue us were not other monsters, but that group of weasels. They ran on the snow as if leaving no footprints, as fast as lightning, with sickle-shaped tails.
As I took out my magic wand, preparing to try and eliminate these not very threatening weasels, the Younger Sister Nun on my right immediately opened fire.
“Da da da!” The crisp, continuous gunfire. The sound of the submachine gun firing was pleasant to the ears as a stream of bullets flew towards the weasel pack.
Those weasels were very agile. As soon as they saw someone firing, they immediately dodged left and right to evade the bullets, weaving like snakes. Logically speaking, ordinary shooters would have a hard time hitting them.
But the Sister Nun who fired was not an ordinary shooter, and the gun she held was not ordinary either. Santa Claus was right; these bullets were imbued with Holy Light before being fired, meaning they had become consecrated ammunition.
Even if these bullets missed their target and fell to the ground, they would cause a Holy Light explosion. The startled weasels were thrown off balance, their formation scattered, and they even forgot to dodge for a moment.
Sister Nun swept her submachine gun horizontally, and the first two or three weasels in the front were hit almost simultaneously. Moreover, the bullets that entered their bodies would cause another explosion, leaving the weasels covered in wounds.
Faced with such firepower, the weasel pack was terrified and scattered. It was a pity that we were on the run and didn’t have time to skin them, otherwise, the weasel fur should have been worth quite a bit.
“Well done, but don’t shoot carelessly. The real difficult battle is about to begin. This was just an appetizer before the meal,” I reminded them loudly.

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
