The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 1990

“You really don’t have eyes, to dare to rob our motorcade.” The younger of the twin maids said, wiping bloodstains from her lace gloves.

This seemingly petite and cute girl had just killed a burly man half her height with her bare hands, without using any weapons.

The surrounding sailors were terrified to witness this scene and fled to a distance, fearing that these girls might mistake them for accomplices and deal with them as well.

“Yeah, with this level, you want to learn how to rob. You’re truly unskilled and overconfident.” The older sister lightly scraped the ground with her foot, having just kicked through a burly man’s temple with her sharp high heels.

“Um, I’m done over here.” The mercenary girl said, wiping her rapier with a silk scarf. This mercenary girl seemed completely unaccustomed to killing, having let several fleeing bandits escape earlier. Even those two maids were more like mercenaries than she was.

“Me too, the leader who orchestrated the robbery is dead.” The mercenary girl holding the Page Hammer walked out from the depths of the alley, her hammer still dripping blood.

“Who were the attackers?” a girl’s voice came from the carriage.

“Their faces were weathered, their skin sun-darkened, and their fingers were calloused. They must be sailors who frequently go out to sea. Seeing as they used harpoons, they might be fishermen,” the mercenary girl with the Page Hammer said, looking at the corpses.

“No matter who they were, they are just a few corpses now. Don’t worry about them, let’s go,” a man’s voice came from the carriage.

“Okay.” The four of them responded. The maids went back to the front to drive the horses, and the two mercenaries sat back in the rear seats. Soon, after a bump, the carriage drove away.

Only then did the surrounding sailors gather, begin to examine the corpses, and strip them of anything valuable. They were all poor people who weren’t afraid of the dead; if they were slow to loot, others would take it.

But the leader had hidden too well. He wasn’t seen by outsiders when he was killed by the mercenary. It wasn’t until a few sailors hiding in a nearby house saw the other bandits fleeing in panic that they dared to come out and search the little leader’s body for money.

“Holy crap! This is a captain from the Flying Fish Gang, someone with some influence. How could he have died like this?” a young man exclaimed, looking at the little leader’s pained face.

“Stop talking. They were greedy and messed with the wrong people. How could these fools touch those big shots? Now, over twenty people are dead. The Flying Fish Gang might not exist tomorrow,” an old boatman said.

“But the Flying Fish Gang is an old gang. They must know this. They never rob rich merchants. What could have made them so desperate this time? Or perhaps someone paid them to attack?” a quick-witted fisherman asked.

“I advise you not to think too much about it, and don’t spread or inquire about it. Curiosity killed the cat, you know. No matter how precious the things are, they wouldn’t be for people like us. Taking them would bring disaster. Anyway, I immediately move away from anything I see,” the old boatman said.

The others agreed, thinking him wise with his vast life experience. They quickly divided whatever money they found on the little leader and immediately fled.

On the seaside cliff near the Dock Area, there is a high-end inn called “Sea Melody Inn.” It offers a view of the Great Sea, and its interior decorations are extremely exquisite, ranking among the best in Valencia.

The inn’s boss is said to be an Old Captain. On one of his voyages, he found a pirate crew’s treasures, retired from seafaring, and opened the inn.

However, there are also rumors that the boss is actually a pirate captain who stole a peerless treasure but angered the Sea God. He was then cursed by the Sea God, unable to set foot in the ocean again, so he hid here and opened the inn.

But regardless of which version is true, the inn owner has neither confirmed nor denied it. He is now just an old man running an inn, but no gang dares to extort protection fees from the Sea Melody Inn.

The boss sat in the inn with its ocean-themed decor. His hair and beard were white, his face full of wrinkles and vicissitudes. He had a stitched scar on his left cheek, and his right leg had been lost in his youth, replaced by a wooden prosthetic.

He looked with satisfaction at the busy staff bustling about, checking for any derelict employees or any problems with the inn’s decoration.

Dolphins, sharks, and whales were hanging from the ceiling, along with a crystal chandelier. Facing the entrance was the skeleton of a sea monster, a creature the boss personally hunted in his youth.

The azure walls were decorated with ship’s rudders and sails. The hall also had chairs made from giant scallops and coral reefs for decoration, and a jellyfish night light was placed on the counter.

Just as the boss was nodding with satisfaction, the sound of horse hooves suddenly came from outside. A luxurious carriage pulled by four horses stopped in front of the inn. The boss’s eyes immediately fixed on the horses in front, then he looked at the carriage before standing up and walking out.

The staff looked at the boss walking to the door and then to the front of the carriage, even more puzzled. The boss rarely greeted guests in person, and his fierce appearance was not suitable for reception duties.

But at this moment, he politely walked to the front of the carriage and said, “May I ask where the guests are from, and are you here to stay?”

“This place looks good, we’ll stay here,” a man’s voice came from inside. The two mercenary girls jumped off the back of the carriage first, took a careful look at the innkeeper, and then opened the door.

A youth in a traditional Catalan blouse stepped down. Beside him was a cute girl in formal wear, and two girls with pointed ears and long tails behind them.

“Werewolves?!” The boss’s attention was immediately drawn to the two Werewolf Girls. The most eye-catching feature was the silver collar around their necks, with the silver chain leading into their deep cleavage.

“What, do you have an opinion about my pets?” the youth said in fluent Catalan. The two Werewolf Girls behind him had expressions of great humiliation, but one of them showed a bit of curiosity and novelty.

“No, no, how could I? Welcome, guests,” the boss, knowing that anyone who could keep untamed werewolves as pets must be wealthy and powerful, said with a subservient bow.

“Very good. Prepare four superior rooms for me, feed the horses, and prepare twenty servings of dinner to be sent to the rooms,” the youth said, handing over a bag of gold coins.

“Wait? Servants also get superior rooms? And twenty servings, are you sure?!” the boss asked in astonishment.

“Yes, my servants and pets both get superior rooms, and twenty servings, not one less,” the youth reiterated.

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
