Chapter 2139: Where There Is Light, There Is Shadow
Giselle was in the midst of slaughter when a series of black lightning bolts suddenly struck from behind her. I found this black lightning somewhat familiar; it was very similar to the magic used by the Mutants when we took down the Fourth Research Group.
However, this volley was more powerful, and the lightning was denser, almost surrounding Giselle. It was incredibly fast, making it impossible to dodge.
Just as the black lightning was about to hit Giselle, its trajectory inexplicably skewed, darting around erratically. It simply failed to strike her, as if the space she occupied had warped.
I had fought Giselle several times before and asked her about the characteristics of Shadow-based Spells. Essentially, they were more about deception: this attack was the same, utilizing refraction to affect vision. To them, Giselle appeared to be standing there, but she was actually no longer there.
Ordinary Shadow mages would not be this powerful. A wide-area attack covering that region would make it impossible for a vulnerable mage to escape.
However, Giselle was not only a Shadow-based mage but also a Thief and an assassin. Her Agility and Speed far surpassed ordinary people. From my perspective, she was actually using Shadow Step to move at high speed, constantly evading to places the lightning did not attack.
But from an outsider’s perspective, she hadn’t moved at all. She just stood there, and no matter how the black lightning whipped and bit like a snake, it couldn’t touch the motionless Giselle.
At this point, I also saw the attacker who unleashed the black lightning. He stood on a high platform behind Giselle. At some point, a cliff with elevation differences had appeared here. A person stood on the high platform of the cliff, raising his hands to cast the black lightning.
His attire was very peculiar. He was wearing a completely black leather trench coat, a fedora, and a gas mask. A rapier was also tucked into his waist. This did not look like a miner, nor did it seem like a bodyguard hired by a boss.
Seeing that the black lightning was ineffective, the mysterious man in the trench coat threw eight black and yellow crystal cones, which embedded themselves around Giselle. Then, from Origin Stone crystals, more than a dozen people holding rapiers, also wearing trench coats and gas masks, rushed out. They charged toward Giselle, brandishing Origin Stone swords.
Almost simultaneously with the mysterious man shooting out the Origin Stone crystal cones, Giselle also threw a bright stone backward. The luminous stone illuminated the Hall, and at the same time, cast the shadows of the concealed items onto the mysterious men who rushed out.
As they launched a Siege on Giselle, the shadows on their bodies suddenly burst into flames, as if invisible flames had leaped out from the shadows. Their clothes and skin showed clear signs of being Scorched.
I had also been hit by this move before. It felt like the shadows had turned into flames or boiling water – incredibly hot. Furthermore, shadows were everywhere, making it a very troublesome technique.
Yet, despite their piercing screams, not a single one of them even hesitated. They continued to rush toward Giselle at high speed.
Giselle completely ignored them. As they lunged at her, the bright stone flew directly above her, casting her own shadow in front of her. Giselle reached out and plunged her hand into her shadow.
Meanwhile, behind Giselle, the mysterious attacker, as he was about to draw his weapon to attack Giselle again, was completely unaware that the moment the bright stone was thrown upwards, his shadow was also cast behind him by the bright stone in front.
A dagger shot out from his shadow with lightning speed, striking him directly in the back. Then, Giselle pulled upwards, drawing a thin thread from her own shadow. The mysterious man on the high platform was simultaneously yanked, stumbling backward.
Only then could I clearly see that Giselle’s hand was wrapped around a piano wire, almost invisible in the dim environment. The dagger that had pierced the mysterious man’s back was also connected to a piano wire. Both piano wires extended into their respective shadows.
Giselle, using some unknown Method, had connected the two men’s shadows. By stabbing into her own shadow, she had caused the connected dagger to shoot out from the other person’s shadow. And before the mysterious man could react, she pulled him down.
The mysterious man reacted almost instantly, using his knees to forcefully counter the backward momentum. At the same time, Giselle was pierced from all sides by the surrounding mysterious men who were attacking her.
All of this happened in an instant. From the mysterious man shooting the Origin Stone crystal cones, Giselle throwing the bright stone, to the mysterious man being pulled down, and Giselle being assassinated by eight mysterious men with masks, less than three seconds had passed. The bright stone hadn’t even landed yet.
Just as these mysterious men thought they had succeeded, Giselle shattered like glass into countless fragments. It was actually a doppelgänger.
Simultaneously, the mysterious man on the high platform barely stabilized himself, preventing him from falling to the ground. However, two lovely, fair arms extended from the shadow behind him. They rested on the mysterious man’s shoulders and pulled him down.
This action became the last straw for the mysterious man. He lost his balance and fell directly to the ground, but instead of hitting something hard, it was as if he had fallen into water, quickly being swallowed by the shadows.
Only then did the bright stone fall from mid-air, landing with a crisp sound. The Hall plunged back into darkness, with only two people missing: Giselle and the spellcasting mysterious man.
The remaining mysterious men roared in impotent fury, unleashing angry hisses and howls. But they had lost Giselle’s whereabouts and had no idea where their enemy was.
The entire mine began to stir. Magic Power surged violently, and monsters that looked like they had crawled out of nightmares began spawning from the Origin Stones, rushing out into the Hall and patrolling everywhere.
Clearly, Giselle’s provocative actions had enraged the powers that be in this place (if there were any). If Giselle could kill her way through and leave unharmed, the mine would lose all credibility and be looked down upon by other supernatural locations.
“Giselle, come back when you’re done playing. They seem to be angry,” I said. That dazzling display just now was truly breathtaking. I couldn’t help but sigh, thinking that if Giselle had been the one investigating Sturgeon No. 3, she might have killed everyone on the ship by herself.
“I’m afraid it’s difficult, Parul (Sister). They’re too enthusiastic and don’t want me to leave. I’ve already gone through the first level of the mine several times,” Giselle replied.
“Hmm?” I looked at her in confusion. Giselle had already slipped into the shadows. Without shadow vision, I couldn’t see her surroundings clearly, and she was constantly jumping within the shadows.
However, I could roughly tell that although Giselle wanted to escape, every time she jumped to the first level, she would emerge from the elevator shaft on the second level. Wasn’t this a Ghostly Wall?
