Chapter 2371 – Two Lines, Light and Shadow
Three nights later, near the Navy Fortress on Saint Port Island, the Yellow King believers had laid a trap, surrounding the fortress. To monitor the movements of the Lord of the City’s Mansion, they disguised themselves as wine merchants, adventurers, and street performers, dispersing around the fortress.
Although Saint Port Island had a Navy Fortress, its geographical location was not critical. The most important stronghold in the Madeira Islands was still the main island of Madeira. Moreover, no pirates or bandits dared to attack a fully armed fortress, so it had not seen any battles for many years.
Consequently, the Navy soldiers had become lax in their vigilance around the fortress. Despite daily patrols, civilian houses had sprung up around the fortress, vaguely forming a small village. The soldiers did not prevent people from building houses next to a military stronghold.
The reason was that these houses were not for living in, but rather to provide services for the Navy soldiers. There were theaters, bars, brothels, small shops, grocery stores, and even equipment shops, all bustling with activity and lights on even at night.
This was the commercial street that catered to the soldiers, centered around the Navy Fortress. The Navy soldiers had a stable and decent income, and they were generous with their spending. Despite being rough and impolite, many people were willing to do business with them.
To further monitor the castle, some Yellow King believers even disguised themselves and forged identities, posing as hired workers to perform tasks like clearing waterways, cleaning the ship’s hull, and sweeping within the Navy Fortress.
The fact that so many Sea Monster Corpses were still piled up in the Lord of the City’s underground stores meant that if they were moved out, they would surely be seen. Even a bird flying out of the castle could attract their attention.
The Yellow King believers’ plan was to seize the Sea Monster Corpses as soon as they left the Navy Fortress’s control, preferably destroying them on the spot to completely disrupt the transaction. This would then fulfill the Divine Revelation.
“This is truly… for a Navy Fortress, the management and regulations are so lax. Not only are bounty hunters commissioned and laborers allowed free entry and exit, but the soldiers can even bring their families into the barracks. It’s truly slack,” the General Manager grumbled.
At this moment, he stood on a hillside with Older Brother Jayad and the Troupe Leader, gazing from afar at the Navy Fortress and the Yellow King believers, ready to strike at any moment.
“There’s nothing that can be done. There are no hostile forces on Saint Port Island. Even those half-fish, half-human beings trained by the Church of the Sea Goddess, who look terrifying, actually obey the Navy’s orders. Who would dare provoke the renowned Invincible Armada?” Older Brother Jayad said with a smile.
“I feel something is wrong. Divine Envoy, the mole hasn’t been found, nor has their method of monitoring us been discovered. In this situation, if we surround the Lord of the City’s Mansion like this, the enemy will surely know, right?” the Troupe Leader asked through gritted teeth.
“Yes, but in a situation where the enemy is hidden and we are exposed, this is the best course of action. Our goal is not to eliminate the enemy or get entangled with them, but merely to disrupt that transaction. These Sea Monster Corpses are the chips. Once these are destroyed, that’s all that matters. Even if they know we’re surrounding them, what can they do?” Brother Jayad chuckled easily.
“That’s right, what the Divine Envoy says is correct. We’ll just surround them. If they have the ability, let them come out. If this weren’t a Navy Fortress, we would have attacked directly,” the General Manager said, flattering Brother Jayad with a smile.
The Troupe Leader frowned. He felt that something was off about this situation. With the mole still active, he felt extremely uneasy, but it seemed that apart from the plan proposed by the Divine Envoy, no other method was feasible.
Two days ago, the Divine Envoy suddenly said that they should focus solely on the Sea Monster Corpses and ignore any other schemes the enemy might have. Their only objective was to destroy the chips for the transaction, and for this, they needed to continuously monitor the Lord’s castle.
He also proposed a detailed plan, such as some people disguising themselves to infiltrate the Navy Fortress, while others would disperse around to observe, and the Starry Sky Octopus would be deployed outside the port to monitor.
Furthermore, various contingency plans were made, such as how nearby individuals would provide support when an enemy attacked a monitor, and how to retreat when the Lord suddenly apprehended disguised infiltrators. Every step was meticulously arranged.
On the surface, it seemed as if the Divine Envoy genuinely intended to use this straightforward method to handle any situation. However, the Troupe Leader still felt that something was amiss, believing this was not the Divine Envoy’s true plan. But no matter how many times he asked, the Divine Envoy would not say.
Actually, at this time, on a ship nearing Genoa, Older Brother Jayad was discussing the final preparations with me. He asked with concern, “Parul, are you really planning to enter the dreamscape yourself? It’s truly dangerous to go alone.”
“Brother, haven’t we discussed this several times? Besides you, is there anyone else who can cooperate with you to attack the same place simultaneously from both inside and outside the dream?” I asked casually.
“I know, but this is ultimately my business, and it’s not right for me to have Parul take such a risk,” Older Brother Jayad said with a hint of guilt.
“Brother has made two mistakes,” I said, turning to him. “First, your business is my business. We are inseparable. Second, I am not taking a risk. It is merely my Guardian Deity entering. Even if it dies, it will not harm me.”
“Moreover, I am not unprepared. Alright, time is almost up. I’m going in now,” I said, lying down on the bed and focusing all my attention on Saint Port Island. Older Brother Jayad could only heave a sigh.
The reason I need to concentrate is that I must pay attention to two perspectives simultaneously. One is Night Bird beside Older Brother Jayad. I need to see Older Brother Jayad through Night Bird’s eyes to ensure our actions are synchronized.
At the same time, I must control my Guardian Deity. Precisely because I can see Older Brother Jayad’s every move, and because Brother and I share a tacit understanding that no one else can surpass, I said that only I can do this; no one else can substitute me.
And my Guardian Deity is currently possessing a soldier. He is one of the Lord’s private guards. He was controlled by Older Brother Jayad’s song when he came out to drink at a bar. Afterward, I transformed my Guardian Deity into a Spirit Body and attached it to him.
Then, I controlled the soldier to enter the Navy Fortress and then the Lord’s castle. Normally, there should be magic at the entrance to check for Spirit Bodies. However, because the area had been peaceful for too long, the military preparedness had become lax. There were no longer any checks. Even the Navy soldier at the gate did not check his identity; seeing that he was one of the Lord’s private guards, they let him in, even making a few jokes.
The soldier, carrying his weapon, appeared to be on patrol. Others from the Baron’s mansion nearby were not on guard, allowing me to approach the warehouse where the Sea Monster Corpses were stored.
Outside, the Troupe Leader looked at the starry sky and said, “Divine Envoy, the time for the stars to align is drawing near.”
