Chapter 2377 – No Room for Negotiation
“I can’t handle being treated to another meal, won’t it be something like Tide Bishop’s barbecued Sea People tentacles again?” Jayad retorted.
“It seems you know. The secret of that meal, and the reason for the intelligence leak. I thought you would never discover it,” Shui Mo said with a smile.
This was a direct admission. She had indeed led the Yellow King believers to a problematic restaurant, where several dishes were mixed with cooked Sea People cells.
These Sea People cells, after being cooked, had lost their ability to infect and divide, as well as their characteristic of accessing the Sea People’s collective mental connection.
However, it was precisely this characteristic that allowed the Sea People to sense their deceased kin. In the mental connection, they appeared as several black dots that couldn’t receive signals, moving on a map, their positions evident at a glance.
“There are a few things I don’t understand, and I’d like to ask the two young ladies to answer. Actually, you are still human, aren’t you? At least you retain part of your humanity and your sanity, right?” Jayad asked.
“It’s hard to say. How do you know we haven’t completely turned into Sea People and are just mimicking a human appearance? Sea People have this ability too,” Shui Mo said with a smile.
But Isha didn’t joke or beat around the bush. She answered in a singing voice, “We were human.”
“We still are. I can see that even if your entire bodies are replaced by Sea People cells, your sanity and memories are still human. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have attacked the Sea Monster before. I suspect you two are Divine Favorites of The Deep Sea Church, aren’t you?” Jayad discerned the similar aura they had to himself.
“Your guess is correct. We do indeed come from The Deep Sea Church and were once gifted orphans, but we were fortunate to retain our sanity and successfully integrated into the group,” Isha said.
“Killing our kin was also a helpless act. They were lured by more ambitious church members and were unconsciously expanding towards the shore. This was not our intention, so we have been doing our best to stop them,” Shui Mo added.
“I understand. The factions within The Deep Sea Church are complex, and their ideals and goals are vastly different. I suppose you gave me that diary and the roster? And that Deep Sea Bishop was driven mad by you?” Jayad asked again, as these two girls knew the Yellow King believers’ movements best.
However, they shook their heads. Shui Mo said, “It wasn’t us, but it was a bishop who shared our aspirations. Of course, you can hold us accountable, as we did inform him of your whereabouts.”
“It doesn’t make much difference whether you blame us or not. I don’t have much time now. Two young ladies, I need to pass through. If you can let me pass, I can let bygones be bygones, given our previous acquaintance,” Jayad said, issuing an ultimatum.
“Then I must thank you for being willing to spare us, but I’m very sorry, we cannot let you pass. You intend to destroy Atos Island, don’t you? We cannot allow you to do that,” Shui Mo said.
“Can’t we just shake hands and make peace? Those radicals should have been dealt with by you by now. From now on, we will do our best to restrain the Sea People and keep them here, no longer expanding,” Isha also pleaded.
Shui Mo’s words were more playful and lively, while Isha was quiet and reserved. However, when the two sides confronted each other, Shui Mo became more assertive, while Isha was gentler and more persuasive, making one want to listen to her.
“Very regrettable, that is impossible. You know as well as I do the purpose of the Yellow King believers. We need to defeat the Deep Ones, and they are now in the dream corresponding to this island, summoning an Evil God to try and drown the entire world. Can you still distance yourselves from them now?” Jayad directly refused with a shake of his head.
Shui Mo and Isha’s faces turned pale. They truly had no way. Although as Divine Favorites, they could command some Sea People, the transaction was complete, and the sacrifices had been exchanged. They were not skilled at entering dreams and couldn’t stop the Deep Ones’ scheme.
In fact, within The Deep Sea Church, they were both staunch opponents of cooperating with the Deep Ones. They even believed this wasn’t a transaction at all, but that they were being used by the Deep Ones, and the Sea People were merely stepping stones for the Evil God.
However, a group of conspirators centered around the Tide Bishop completely ignored them, bypassed the high-level meetings, lured Sea People to the island, and then offered their corpses as sacrifices to the Deep Ones, attempting to summon the Evil God to flood the world.
In their calculations, the Deep Ones would surely be annihilated by divine punishment for attempting to awaken the Evil God and flood the world. At that time, wouldn’t a world that had become a vast ocean allow them to live and expand freely?
Now the conspirators had brought ruin upon themselves, but the Deep Ones’ ritual had already begun, and they couldn’t stop it. Seeing Jayad storming in, they could only prioritize protecting Atos Island.
Shui Mo shook her head and said, “This is a paradise that countless Sea People have built for a long time. It absolutely cannot be destroyed. So many suffering souls have found salvation here. Can you really bear to destroy this earthly paradise?”
Isha’s words were concise: “If you choose to spare this place, we will give you a treasure as thanks, and if you need any help, we can assist you.”
After repeated persuasion, they had said everything they could, good and bad. However, their good attitude was based on Jayad’s immense strength, which made them feel threatened. If it were an ordinary person, they would have already taken them down.
But Jayad still refused with a shake of his head: “When humans had original sin, God banished them from Paradise, making them toil and suffer the pangs of childbirth. Only after redemption can they return to Paradise.”
The implication was clear: he also intended to emulate the gods and expel the Sea People from their paradise, making them also endure hardship to survive, and no longer be able to increase their kin through propagation and assimilation.
“It seems there’s no room for negotiation, but you have no right to call yourself a god, let alone use the words of an aberrant god to judge us!” Shui Mo gripped her weapon, a long-handled lance made of biomatter.
“Since you’ve chosen to fight us on Atos Island, we are fully determined to stop you! This is indeed a paradise favored by the gods, and you have spoken with us for too long!” Isha also gripped her black-gold greatsword.
Jayad seemed to freeze. Unbeknownst to him, incredibly fine microorganisms had crawled onto his skin, and single cells, drifting with the wind, were inhaled with his breath.
