The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 2388

Chapter 2388 Water-Based Magic

“Ugh, gurgle…” A giant Deep One let out a hoarse cry of pain. Its body was emaciated, and despite being submerged in seawater, it looked like a dried-up salted fish.

“When you were performing the Blood Sacrifice on the Sea Monster, did you ever think you’d suffer the same fate?” I said, continuing to absorb the Deep One’s blood energy to repair the wounds on my Valkyrie Armor, which had been pierced by fish bones.

Even with Dagon’s divine power protecting this giant Deep One, it couldn’t escape having its blood energy drained by me. Its level of divine power was no match for mine.

Facing the tragic death of its companion, another giant Deep One dared not come to its rescue. Instead, it summoned a large barrage of water arrows and fired them at me, but they were easily deflected by my Valkyrie’s sword.

“You guys go!” the giant Deep One commanded a large group of normal Deep Ones around it. As a warrior of Dagon, it held a higher status and authority over its own kin. The other Deep Ones could only obey.

Many Deep Ones had already recovered their consciousness from the previous explosion. Upon seeing an intruder, they immediately surrounded me and charged forward with swords and knives made from fish bones.

These low-level pawns posed no real threat to me. With a raise of my hand, I used Life Drain to kill a swath of them. In retaliation, I froze the seawater behind me, and the ice cones formed caused a group of Deep Ones attempting to backstab me to impale themselves. Fish bones and harpoons shot from a distance were deflected by my manipulation of the seawater currents, and then I killed them with water-based magic.

After a group of Deep Ones had died, more approached me. My Valkyrie raised her greatsword and swung at them. Their crude fish bone swords usually shattered on contact, and they were directly split in half by the greatsword. Some that attacked from the side were impaled on chains and turned into kebabs.

However, there were quite a few casters among the Deep Ones, some of whom were priests of Dagon or the Lord of R’lyeh. Others were likely mages who had learned magic, mostly sea witches or black mages.

The magic they used was basically water-based, supplemented by ice and undead magic. Coincidentally, I had a basic understanding of all three, so I could directly engage them in counter-magic.

The Vengeful Spirits summoned by the Deep Ones often rebelled against their summoners inexplicably, and the coalesced ice cones would suddenly reverse direction and strike the casters.

This was counter-magic. If you understood a spell, you could potentially counter it, causing the magic to backfire on the caster. For those shallow Deep One casters, my understanding and foundation of magic were far superior to theirs.

Only their water-based magic, a talent and divine profession of the Deep Ones, could not be countered by me. However, the Deep Ones lacked the skill to counter me either. Both sides could only engage in a tense and exciting magic battle using water-based magic.

I had read in books that using water-based magic in the sea felt similar to using wind-based magic in normal circumstances. Everything around was a spellcasting material, saving the step of creating water, and one could directly condense seawater to attack the enemy.

On Atos Island, the Sea People could also enjoy this advantage. The surroundings were filled with water attributes, equivalent to home ground. The Deep Ones here had a double home ground advantage: the deep sea, plus the arrival of R’lyeh, and their sheer numbers. It could be said they had every advantage.

But even so, it was still a fifty-fifty match, and I even held a slight edge. After all, they were a group, and I was just one person, and I had already killed several of them.

Water-based magic was not just limited to conjuration-type spells that could only shape water into various forms to attack. In fact, there were many other ingenious uses.

For example, there was the deflection technique that used the refraction of light by water to cause visual distortions in the Deep Ones, leading to misjudgments and falling into traps. This was somewhat similar to Shadow-based Spells.

Another example was controlling the water within the enemy’s body to directly damage their internal organs, or the blood explosion spell that caused them to explode from within. This type of water-based magic was notorious for its cruel lethality. Unfortunately, the Deep Ones couldn’t use it on me because my Valkyrie’s body was entirely soul, containing no water.

There was also the suffocation technique, which extracted all dissolved oxygen from the water, causing the opponent to die of suffocation. This move was specifically used against aquatic creatures. For land enemies, there was the drowning veil, which created a water mask over their face to prevent them from breathing.

I toyed with the Deep Ones using these spells, and combined with melee combat and other magic, I killed many of them. Yet, they still charged at me fearlessly.

This was because this was R’lyeh, the sacred city of the Deep Ones, their divine realm, and only one step away from their god. This made them incredibly fanatical and completely fearless of death, charging at me madly.

Moreover, the Deep Ones here were becoming more numerous. No matter how many I killed, there would always be more. Eventually, I would be exhausted and defeated. However, failure was not an unacceptable outcome for me. My purpose was to act as bait, to lure more Deep Ones here, and then catch them all in one net.

But the Star Kin on the other side was losing patience. It was currently maintaining the entire ancient city, which was a huge consumption for it and couldn’t last long. So, after a moment of hesitation, it raised a hand towards me.

An invisible wave surged towards me, one after another. The moment it touched me, my Valkyrie’s movements froze.

I felt as if my memories were being washed away by water, constantly flowing and disappearing. This caused my Valkyrie to lose her ability to act, as her consciousness was continuously being dispersed by these waves of water.

This seemed to be a water-based spell, the Wave of Forgetfulness, which could forcibly erase a person’s memories. It was said that those with strong magic resistance or powerful souls had a chance to recover, but those who were too weak might never recover.

Of course, most people affected by this spell didn’t get the chance to find out if they could recover later, as they were usually killed by their enemies on the spot due to the stupor caused by their memory loss.

“Hurry and act, capture her for me!” the Star Kin shouted loudly. Several Deep Ones quickly threw out some chains and bound me tightly.

Unfortunately, although the Wave of Forgetfulness was a good spell, it had little effect on me. It could only erase the Valkyrie’s memories, but it couldn’t affect my main body. Once I synchronized the memories of my main body, I immediately recovered.

Moreover, the chains couldn’t hold me. As soon as my Valkyrie recovered, she instantly turned into bubbles, leaving the chains empty. I then appeared to the side, and the chains on my greatsword impaled and killed all the approaching Deep Ones.

“Heh heh, now I’m finally mentally connected to my main body. Watch this.” The tentacles on the Star Kin’s neck fluttered. Its smooth, round head was brewing an extremely powerful mental spell, and I instinctively felt a great threat to myself.

However, at that moment, a fiery red light appeared on the sea surface, followed by violent tremors. This time, it was no less significant than the previous large explosion. The Star Kin lost its balance and its spell was interrupted.

“What happened again?!” It angrily looked up and saw a doomsday-like scene in the real world.

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
