Chapter 2436 Switching to the Main Account
Originally there was no singing around, only the shouts of soldiers, the screams of panicked commoners, and the roars of the undead. But when that deity appeared in the gateway, I seemed to hear singing.
More specifically, I didn’t hear it, but felt it. All things in the world were music, wonderfully beautiful and pleasant to the ear, as if everything was created from a single musical movement, and destiny and laws all followed the description of the song.
But what came from the divine gate was a set of chaotic melodies, utterly lacking in beauty, full of noise, as if disrupting the harmony of the music. Yet, this only served to make the music more beautiful and the melodies more jarring.
If I had to describe the feeling, it would be like being in the Vienna Golden Hall, listening to a classical symphony, with someone next to you singing death metal. Their voice couldn’t drown out the entire symphony orchestra, but their ear-piercing electronic music could still make the audience extremely uncomfortable.
However, I noticed the soldiers and clerics. The soldiers seemed to hear nothing; they stared intently at the wide-open divine gate, trembling with fear.
The clerics, on the other hand, seemed to hear the discordant noise. They covered their ears or used their spiritual sense to block their hearing, preventing themselves from being disturbed by the noise.
I was somewhat surprised that they didn’t seem to hear the pleasant melody. Otherwise, even with a bit of noise, they wouldn’t have covered their ears and blocked their senses, but would have tried to listen to this incomparably beautiful music.
Instinctively, I felt that this music contained boundless mystery, revealing the laws of development for all things. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand music theory. If I had understood this piece of music, I would definitely have understood many laws of the world.
No! It’s not like that! I suddenly woke up. I almost fell into the music and couldn’t extricate myself. Fortunately, no matter how beautiful the music was, it was like playing the lute to a cow for me. If I truly understood music theory, I would definitely be captivated.
I knew what would happen if I knew too much knowledge in this world. Such beautiful music belonged only in heaven; how often could it be heard in the human realm? This was definitely music composed by a god.
For mortals to try to understand the music created by gods, wasn’t that courting death? Moreover, it was accompanied by that unpleasant noise, which could surely corrupt one’s reason and spirit.
In fact, it had already begun. With the appearance of that evil god, the surrounding things were being distorted by the noise. Fire and poisonous gas erupted from the cemetery grounds, the deceased soldiers revived as undead, and the soldiers who were already alive mutated, developing bestial characteristics.
I dared not use my God’s Eye to look directly at that deity, only daring to sense His aura a bit. It was boundless darkness and evil. If the definition of an evil god was previously a broad term, then this one could only be described as an evil god. Evil was His essence and divine duty; all evil in the world originated from Him.
“Hiss! I know! He is another aspect of the Lord of the Dead, the great enemy of darkness! The most evil Ainur!” The cleric who grew six wings finally recognized Him.
I also remembered that shortly after I first came to Falbedy Cemetery, I learned about the legends of the Death Trinity. Just as the Lord of Murder, Baal, was actually an avatar of Beelzebub, the Lord of the Dead, Milgo, was also just an avatar.
He had a much more famous, or rather, more infamous title: the great enemy of darkness, Morgoth, also known as Mōkū.
Now, as the Death Trinity Church’s undead were being restrained by the clerics, they could no longer bear it and called upon another avatar of the god. The wave of holy light was halted by the dark divine power.
Amidst Morgoth’s noise, all things were violently distorted. Some clerics with weak wills had their holy light turn to darkness, and they watched in terror as their bodies rapidly mutated. The ordinary soldiers, who couldn’t hear the noise, were not at risk.
Almost simultaneously, a gateway also slowly opened above the Murder Lord Church. A massive amount of evil aura surged out. This aura only made one feel extremely hungry, as if wanting to devour everything in the world.
This was something I was very familiar with. I felt this divine power every time I performed a sacrifice. This was the aura of the Gluttony Demon King, Beelzebub. Through the divine gate, one could see a giant fly.
Unexpectedly, the Murder Lord also sought help from other avatars of the god. The one responsible for summoning Beelzebub’s power was Lavias and his vampire subordinates. They were all Glutton believers.
When Beelzebub’s aura appeared in the cemetery, the ocean-like holy light seemed to be sucked into something in the void, like a drink being gulped down completely, leaving nothing behind.
“Gluttony Demon King! I didn’t expect them to still have reinforcements. Everyone be careful!” The leading cleric reminded them nervously and loudly. At this stage, he finally became tense; the situation had exceeded his expectations.
Originally, they had intended to crusade against the Death Trinity Church entrenched in the cemetery, which was merely one of its branch churches. They thought it would be easy to eliminate, but they didn’t expect to have stumbled upon the main nest.
Now, they had to face the minions of two avatars, Morgoth and Beelzebub, not just the Death Trinity. Milgo and Baal were too unfair, coming with their main accounts to fight. They were likely in for an extremely difficult battle.
In the gateway, Morgoth’s figure gradually receded, but the three brilliant diamonds on His crown remained dazzling. Even through the world portal, they could illuminate the entire Cando City. Under that pure radiance, the holy light of the clerics was like the flame of a firefly, unworthy of comparison with the sun and moon.
Clearly, He was an evil god, so why did He possess such a brilliant and luminous radiance? I couldn’t help but look towards that portal, trying not to look at Morgoth hidden in darkness and shadow, but only at the crown on His head.
When my eyes met those three incomparably brilliant diamonds, I seemed to see two giant trees in the sky, one golden and one silver. Every flower on the golden tree was as dazzling as the sun, and every leaf on the silver tree was as bright as the moon.
“Hiss!” I covered my eyes, finding it unbearable even with just a glance. Fortunately, I didn’t understand the essence of those two trees. As expected, the diamonds contained a portion of the radiance of the twin trees.
Under the suppression of this radiance, all the clerics’ holy light was suppressed to near their bodies. This was not because the evil god suppressed them or stole their power.
It was simply that when light far exceeding the sun was dazzling, the flames ignited by those small matchsticks were so insignificant that their light was completely overshadowed.
