Chapter 2437: Air Force Reinforcements
“Roar!!!” A dragon’s roar echoed, and a massive black dragon flew out of the dark portal, ridden by a Dragon Knight clad in ferocious armor, wielding a page hammer.
Following him were nine Spirit Knights in black robes, riding beasts that resembled both dragons and bats. Like the Dragon Knight, they all wore golden rings on their hands.
Simultaneously, Beelzebub merged into the darkness, leaving only two giant, blood-red compound eyes observing the battlefield. I felt His gaze subtly on me, at least one line of sight was fixed on me, making my skin crawl.
If a god’s aura is exposed to reality for too long, it can easily invite divine punishment. Therefore, Beelzebub, like Morgoth, chose to conceal His aura. However, this did not mean He was inactive; a squadron of cavalry riding giant flies took to the air.
These flies were all rotten, their gaping mouths crawling with maggots, their bloated abdomens suggesting they had consumed an immense amount. They looked incredibly grotesque, and it was a wonder the riders dared to mount such disgusting insects.
When I was previously surrounded and suppressed by the Knight Captain and his men, it was Lavias leading the fly cavalry who came to my rescue. During that battle, he was severely wounded by a sword thrust from a Cleric of Tyr, the God of Justice.
Now, seeing these fly cavalry, the Cleric with six golden wings on his back erupted in fury, a literal fire burning in his eyes. “So it was you! You’ve been hiding here all along, come out, you coward!” he roared, his voice laced with icy killing intent. It seemed he was the one who had wounded Lavias last time.
But judging by the Tyr Paladin’s furious display, Lavias must have suffered some disadvantage in their previous encounter as well, otherwise, he wouldn’t be this enraged.
While he was brimming with fighting spirit, the remaining soldiers were not. They had never imagined that an attempt to suppress a cemetery would involve facing the pressure of an Evil God and flying beasts. The dragon’s might alone was enough to make them want to turn and flee.
“Target the Black Dragon Knight, open fire on my command!” the commander shouted loudly. However, his subordinates, who had previously followed orders without question, hesitated. It took a while before they raised their guns and fired, their shots sparse.
Whether it was arrows, bullets, or steel nails, they had little effect on the black dragon. Steel nails could inflict minor damage, but arrows and bullets simply could not penetrate its dragon scales.
“Roar!” The black dragon opened its massive maw, unleashing a torrent of scorching dragon breath that directly hit the center of a phalanx.
“Defense!” A nearby Cleric within the phalanx raised a pale shield, enveloping the formation. However, under the oppressive brilliance of the three diamonds, the Holy Light seemed much dimmer than before.
The combined magic power of all the soldiers in the phalanx was barely enough to keep the shield from being destroyed by the dragon’s breath. The soldiers shivered as they watched the dragon’s breath scorch the shield, feeling the intense heat around them, their hands too shaky to even hold their weapons. If the shield broke, they would surely be roasted into charcoal.
And what they feared most came to pass. The Black Dragon Knight above them raised his page hammer and brought it down heavily, an invisible hammer striking the shield.
“Clang!” With a crisp sound, the shield shattered like glass. The Cleric spat out a mouthful of blood, suffering a backlash from the broken spell, and collapsed onto the ground.
Immediately after, the dragon’s breath surged into the phalanx, and screams of agony erupted. In an instant, everyone in that phalanx was incinerated by the dragon’s breath.
This was not the end. The black dragon flapped its wings, its long neck twisting like a giant flamethrower, continuously spewing high-temperature dragon fire onto the ground. Many phalanxes were severely wounded upon mere contact.
“You will pay!” Seeing the black dragon ravaging the formations on the ground, the other Clerics could not stand idly by. They soared into the air, charging towards the black dragon, and cast divine spells at the knight on its back.
Dragons possess strong magic resistance, so directly attacking the black dragon with divine spells would be ineffective. Thus, they intended to take down the knight first.
It was a sound plan, but their released divine spells were also significantly weaker than before. Under the suppression of the three diamonds’ radiance, their power was greatly reduced.
The Black Dragon Knight barely glanced at the divine spears thrusting towards him, the holy hammers appearing overhead, the divine lightning striking down, the holy fire igniting, or the holy light illuminating. With a mere wave of his hand, an invisible shockwave expanded outwards from him, nullifying all divine spells and sending the Clerics who were attacking him flying.
One unlucky Cleric was caught by the black dragon’s maw and swallowed whole, without even a scream. He was likely already roasted into barbecue in its mouth.
“He’s a God’s Chosen! Aaargh!” a Paladin cried out in terror. Before he could finish his sentence, the Black Dragon Knight swung him away with an invisible force, sending him flying. His armor, imbued with divine enchantments, offered no protection. It instantly cracked, his limbs twisted and his body deformed, likely suffering a comminuted fracture from that blow. He was undoubtedly dead and beyond saving.
The remaining Clerics immediately became wary, scattering outwards. They began to slack off, as they were only here to assist the Imperial Guard. While they might be able to defeat a God’s Chosen by overwhelming him, it would cost them several lives, and they were unwilling to be such big spenders. Now, they started to tread water, afraid of attracting the Black Dragon Knight’s attention, making it even harder to pose a threat. They could only ensure the dragon’s breath wouldn’t hit the Imperial Guard below.
However, the aerial force was not limited to just one black dragon. The other strange bird and giant fly riders also descended upon the Imperial Guard above. The pressure emanating from the black-robed ghosts once again terrified the soldiers. Many of them simultaneously endured the divine might, the dragon’s might, and the chilling aura of the undead. Their willpower was almost worn down. If not for the military band and the Clerics constantly bolstering their morale, they would have long since routed.
Even so, they could only barely remain on the battlefield, their shots scattered and inaccurate, making it difficult to hit the enemies in the air. The black-robed knight drew his sword downwards, and an invisible sword energy sliced across the battlefield, carving a long沟壑 into the ground. The soldiers who stood in its path, despite wearing armor, were cut in two. The giant flies were even more disgusting; they madly defecated in mid-air, sending droppings flying everywhere, splattering like a thousand snowflakes on the ground.
“Ugh!” The Imperial Guardsmen vomited, some even passing out from the stench. They had never witnessed such disgusting bombardment. Many drowned in a sea of excrement.
