Chapter 2469 – Bury Him in the Coffin
“Should we go see the Pope first? That’s a good idea, Saintess is quite thorough,” Lavias pondered for a moment after hearing my suggestion, agreeing to head to Genoa first before transferring to Romania.
“However, Master, your current body can’t withstand teleportation, can it?” Via’s Mother asked with concern. Lavias was currently just a puddle of blood, and teleporting might cause him to disintegrate.
“It’s fine. Take the coffin from the carriage, put me inside, and then I’ll be able to withstand the teleportation and recuperate at the same time,” Lavias said.
“Yes.” Via’s Mother waved her hand, and a gateway made of stained white bones opened within the cave. Gloomy death qi continuously emanated from it, as if it were a portal to the Underworld.
Several Undead Horses pulled a luxurious carriage out from within. It was the same carriage Lavias had ridden before. However, the two tall, thin stewards were no longer present, and the Banshee that had been circling the carriage had also disappeared, along with the skeleton holding a scythe that hung by the carriage.
It seemed these two had been fused with the carriage, becoming a part of it. The two Ghoul stewards, who were originally strong individuals, had more of an employer-employee or transactional relationship with Lavias. They had already been sent ahead to escort Lavias’ other relatives and descendants to safety.
Seeing Lavias reduced to a pool of blood, the Banshees let out a collective shriek, while the Skeletons remained silent. Upon receiving Via’s Mother’s command, they dismounted and dragged a simple, unadorned coffin out of the carriage.
The coffin was completely black, reflecting no light. Looking at it was like gazing into the darkest abyss. One couldn’t sense any Undead aura or death qi from it.
It wasn’t that there wasn’t any; rather, all the death qi had been absorbed into the coffin, not even a sliver escaping. It felt as though even one’s senses would be drawn in by it unknowingly.
Even a Demon Hunter, if they weren’t there to see it with their own eyes, wouldn’t be able to detect the coffin’s aura from next door.
“A coffin made of Spirit-Absorbing Wood. This wood only grows in the Underworld. Just having a bead made from Spirit-Absorbing Wood on your person can prevent mental attacks. It’s also a coveted auxiliary training material for Undead, and being near it makes it easy to absorb death qi.”
I immediately recognized the special nature of this coffin. Seemingly plain, its materials alone were astronomically expensive. Lavias had actually made an entire coffin out of Spirit-Absorbing Wood; he was truly wealthy. Other Undead would probably be incredibly envious and wish to lie in it every day.
The coffin’s surface bore only an inverted cross and some carved Skeleton patterns. Upon opening it, I discovered its luxurious interior.
Although the exterior appeared plain and unadorned, the inside was lined with gold edges. The crimson lining wasn’t velvet, but rather Blood Silk woven from the fibers of Blood Silk Flowers. Lying within it could nourish Blood Energy.
And that wasn’t all. The coffin also contained a small pocket dimension, capable of storing items. With my perceptive abilities, I could detect that most of what was stored within were various delicacies and blood – truly a follower of the Gluttony Demon King.
This reminded me of the coffin Via brought with her when she ran away to find me. I had even lain in it. That coffin was already very advanced, but compared to Lavias’ own coffin, it was nothing more than a drop in the ocean.
As they placed the coffin beside Lavias and attempted to use the fleshless hands of the Skeletons to lift him into the coffin, Via’s Mother said with concern, “Be careful, don’t let Master drip out.”
Lavias was currently semi-solid and semi-liquid, with only an infant-sized body made of blood. He was defenseless against any threat. The Skeleton servants struggled greatly to carefully lift him.
“No problem, I’ll help,” I said, extending over a dozen Insect Legs to support Lavias’ pool-like body, placing him into the coffin.
To describe it, his texture was like jelly or Slime, sticky. Once placed in the coffin, he no longer maintained his human form and dissolved into a puddle of blood spread across the coffin’s interior.
However, after being placed in the coffin, Lavias showed clear signs of improvement. His aura became more stable, and he no longer lost Blood Energy as before.
Even if he were simply placed in this coffin, buried in the ground, Lavias would likely recover in thirty to fifty years. If it were a place with good Feng Shui, his recovery would be even faster.
“Alright, as long as the lid is closed, I can withstand the pressure of teleportation,” Lavias said. Several Skeleton servants lifted the lid and closed the coffin, sealing it completely.
Seeing that Lavias was ready, I crouched down to draw a magic circle. Right now, at the manor in Genoa, they were drawing an identical teleportation array. Once the two arrays resonated, he could be transported to the other side.
“By the way, I have a question. If being in a coffin allows for teleportation, why not just teleport directly back to Romania?” the Female sniper, who had been silent until then, suddenly posed a very constructive question.
She had always been a markswoman, never delving into magic or Occultism. Her understanding of such matters was likely inferior to that of a magic apprentice.
“Heh heh, you’re Carol’s offspring, aren’t you? She really knows how to give birth but not raise them. She never taught you the fundamental knowledge of Blood Magic and the Blood Race, did she?” Lavias chuckled.
The Female sniper felt a bit embarrassed. From a Vampire’s perspective, a convert was indeed an offspring of the converter. However, she was merely a pawn, used as a spy, and it was always possible she’d be abandoned. How could she be taught extensive fundamental knowledge and magic?
In reality, Via didn’t have the time to teach her either. After converting the Female sniper into a Vampire abomination, she set her free. Apart from receiving some intelligence from Cando City in the early stages, she had largely stopped interfering with her.
If not for her father’s incident causing Via to anxiously remember having a pawn in Cando City, she might have even forgotten the Female sniper’s existence.
“My old home in Romania does have a large-scale teleportation array. It’s a highly complex and complete solidified teleportation array, capable of safely traveling to any corner of the world,” Lavias explained.
“But creating a perfectly identical, resonating teleportation array is also very troublesome, at least not something that can be done now. I originally had one in Falbedy Cemetery, but unfortunately, it’s been destroyed.”
If he hadn’t cared about anything and escaped via the teleportation array immediately when the Siege began, Lavias should have been fine. However, he cared too much about his newly acquainted friends from the Death Trinity Church and his own descendants. Coupled with a bit of wishful thinking, he missed the opportunity to activate the teleportation array and flee.
