Chapter 2492: Feel the Pain!
The Despair Double Sound’s words reminded me that all the statues in the mansion were nodes of a grand magic circle, and that something was being nurtured within them that was not quite right. This was why my Spirit Vision had created such vivid illusions.
But the reason I couldn’t detect them being nodes was simple: Older Brother Jayad had already destroyed the grand magic circle, and those statues had lost their connections to each other, making them appear as ordinary statues now.
Only the Despair Double Sound, wraiths who had once contacted the Lord of the Outer Gods, could see the long-severed magical connections because their Spirit Vision was so much stronger than mine, and they were even twin sisters whose very existence approached that of high-dimensional beings.
Afterward, I promised the Despair Double Sound again that I would inform them as soon as I had any news, requesting that they not disturb the other residents of the manor, especially guests like Lavias, who lived in a different building.
After they agreed, they disappeared. The record player stopped spinning and playing sound. I sighed; even I couldn’t stand this haunting popping up every few days.
Now, those scantily clad girls, who were a corrupting influence, also discovered that although their arranged nodes and altar were fine, the grand magic circle in the basement and the runes carved throughout the house had vanished.
It wasn’t just destruction; if it were merely destroyed, there would be remnants. But now their magic couldn’t resonate with anything, as if their previous arrangements had completely disappeared, as if they had never existed from the start.
This left them looking at each other, their previous plans completely in disarray, and they were hesitant about what to do next.
“Why don’t we just break in? We can tie up the owner of this house. It would be best if he cooperated, and if not, we can torture him into submission. Tormenting people is what we do best,” one girl suggested.
“That’s not wise. What he said earlier wasn’t unreasonable. The owner of this house is very wealthy and very bizarre. We can’t figure out his background, so we shouldn’t take any risks,” another girl said.
“Then what should we do? This is our most important ritual site, and it absolutely cannot be compromised. He’s already destroyed the grand magic circle, and our entire plan is ruined,” the first girl said.
“It’s impressive that they can live in this mansion without falling. They might indeed have some tricks up their sleeves. How about we use that trick we used before? I’ll set up that ritual magic to forcefully lure them into joining us,” the Half-blood Elf Girl said.
She seemed to be the one with the highest status among them. After she spoke, all the other men and women nodded in agreement. At this moment, a girl’s voice asked, “Oh? What kind of ritual is it?”
“It’s the Ritual of Suffering. We’ll envelop this manor in a painful nightmare, inflicting endless torment on them within the dream. For those with strong wills, they will surely experience unparalleled pleasure from the suffering and join us. For the weak, they won’t be able to withstand the terrible pain and will go completely mad,” the Half-blood Elf Girl said triumphantly.
“Oh, oh, so the reason those tenants went mad before and escaped was because they were tormented by nightmares. Regardless of whether they could endure it, the manor would once again become unclaimed territory,” the girl’s voice said again.
“Yes, exactly. They will either succumb to the pain or descend into madness. There is no other choice… Wait?! Who is asking all these questions?” the Half-blood Elf Girl suddenly realized something was wrong. The theoretical basis of her Ritual of Suffering was known to everyone present, and some had even experienced it. It was impossible for them to feign ignorance.
Everyone looked at each other. They only now realized that the girl’s voice from earlier sounded familiar, yet upon careful recollection, they had no impression of it at all, nor did it come from any of them.
“It’s me. Seeing you all discussing so happily, I finally understand what you’ve all done to me,” the girl’s voice suddenly turned sinister.
Everyone felt the surrounding temperature drop, and a cold wind began to blow. Coupled with the fact that their clothes offered almost no protection from the wind or warmth, many shivered uncontrollably.
“Who is it? Who’s speaking!” one girl shouted, regardless of whether her call would expose them. But even now, they couldn’t find out who was speaking.
“Stop playing coy! Come out!” the Half-blood Elf Girl suddenly reacted and swung the Nine-tailed Whip at the wall of the house, its blade slicing open the wall.
A wave of Divine Power, following the whip, penetrated the wall, spreading and conducting through the stone bricks. Some spiders and cockroaches on the wall, upon being touched by the diffused Divine Power, all fell down, their limbs twitching, even seeming to let out unpleasant hisses.
Theoretically, arthropods had primitive nervous systems and lacked pain receptors, so they couldn’t feel pain. Yet these insects seemed to be in extreme agony.
“Hiss! It’s actually quite powerful!” I clutched my head. A fly I had placed nearby was also affected. That searing pain felt as if it came from the depths of my soul. This pain was forcibly inflicted upon the fly and transmitted into my consciousness.
However, I felt that this pain posed no threat to me. I perceived the pain as if observing a record from a third-person perspective. Although I knew it was painful, it didn’t affect my condition.
This was not because I was separated by a fly and not directly harmed, but rather a different sensation: this pain seemed incapable of harming me.
Just as ordinary fire magic could be consumed by stronger Demon’s Fire, and others’ Holy Light couldn’t harm Older Brother Jayad, this Divine Power felt like it was inherently beneath me, incapable of harming me.
Similarly, the Half-blood Elf Girl felt it too. Her Divine Power had indeed entered the wall, and she sensed a powerful aura within it, but it showed no reaction to her whip of pain.
The Half-blood Elf Girl struck the wall several more times, chipping away the layer of plaster and even a layer of red brick beneath it. Yet, the aura inside remained completely unmoved.
In her agitated state, she didn’t notice that the walls of the manor, which should have had decades of history, were brand new, and the red bricks inside were also new.
After five consecutive strikes, the Half-blood Elf Girl stopped. She had realized that such attacks had no effect on the entity inside.
She changed her method, using Mental Scourge. This spell directly inflicted intense pain on the target’s mental plane, making it impossible to resist, regardless of physical strength.
However, the Mental Scourge was directly repelled, hitting the Half-blood Elf Girl’s own soul with great force, causing her to grimace in pain.
“What are you doing? So agitated. I’ll come out myself.” A semi-transparent figure emerged from the wall.
