Chapter 393: Poison or Medicine?
Just like the last time I saved Via, feeding Sherris snake venom via poison cloud proved very effective. Sherris greedily inhaled the snake venom, as if her body instinctively knew it would work for her.
I immediately unleashed more of the Poison Cloud Technique, letting her inhale as much as she wanted; I had more than enough.
In truth, I had some confidence in trying the Poison Cloud Technique first because it inherently came with antidote magic. Even if she truly was poisoned, I could still save her.
Most spells recorded in the Witch’s Notes have corresponding remedies. For example, Hellfire has the Extinguishing Spell, Fossil to Mud Technique has the reversed Mud to Stone Technique, and Spirit Communication Technique has Requiem to Soothe the Undead.
It seems that during the transmission of spells, mages often encountered situations where they needed to know how to remedy mistakes or deal with unexpected circumstances. Thus, after generations of improvements, the spells for damage control were also recorded.
In contrast, if there was a problem when I administered the Life Elixir, I wouldn’t know how to solve it. However, a primal instinct suddenly arose within me: the Life Elixir would also be effective for her.
No way? The moment this thought appeared, it wouldn’t dissipate. I even felt a strong urge to try it, a feeling more potent than the intuition I had during potion brewing.
I acted on impulse. I immediately stopped the Poison Cloud Technique, pulled out the stopper of the Life Elixir, and poured it directly into Sherris’s mouth.
“Huh?” Sherris was quite comfortable, feeling the pain and injuries on her body almost disappear when the poison cloud suddenly stopped. Instead, a bottle was thrust into her mouth.
“Mmph mmph mmph!” I forcibly fed Sherris a bottle of Life Elixir. The burned areas on her body had already scabbed over when she inhaled the poison cloud. Now, with the Life Elixir, they peeled off rapidly.
The new skin was even more tender and white than before. Sherris had been somewhat tanned, and combined with days of exposure and living in the cave, her skin was in poor condition. After the treatment, it simply recovered to the tender skin of a young girl.
“Ah! It’s so itchy!” Sherris scratched her arm, and a large patch of scabs fell off with her sharp nails, revealing tender, flawless new skin underneath.
Holy cow, it really worked! Whether it was the poison or the Life Elixir, both had a healing effect on Sherris. Could this be the advantage from her mixed heritage?
“Thank you, I… I think I’m all better,” Sherris replied as she stood up. “Um, did you just give me two different medicines?”
“Yes, the first was magical treatment, and this one is Life Elixir,” I said, holding the empty potion bottle and feigning an air of confidence, “I’m a professional. This is just a normal healing process.”
Sherris was essentially a village girl and might not even know what Life Elixir was. At the very least, she heard it and was impressed. She showed a very grateful expression and said seriously, “Thank you, Parul (Sister). I will definitely repay this life-saving kindness if I manage to survive today!”
“Don’t say such unlucky things,” I covered her mouth. I had originally just not wanted her to know I was experimenting on her body. I hadn’t expected her to be so grateful; I felt a bit embarrassed.
In the future, I need to find a way to restrain this impulse. Honestly, if Sherris had actually rejected the Life Elixir, my action just now would have been akin to pouring a bottle of concentrated sulfuric acid into her mouth.
At the very least, I should test it bit by bit, confirming she was fine first. But I didn’t have time to test it gradually. The situation was extremely urgent. Jayad and Moore were already engaged in a fierce battle over there, and I had to go support them.
Sebastian also stood up. He had also consumed the Life Elixir and had just dealt with the approaching villagers, knocking them all unconscious.
We divided into two groups to flank Moore. Sebastian suddenly teleported to Moore’s side from an unseen blind spot and shoved him forcefully, pushing him out from behind his cover.
“Ah?! You bastard!” Moore, caught off guard by Sebastian’s shove, stumbled. He didn’t have time to dodge and was exposed to Jayad, falling within the target range of the Hand of Glory.
“Success!” I shouted excitedly. We would win once we apprehended him. Jayad had already aimed the Hand of Glory, and the candle on his palm began to ignite.
The drawback for Jayad using the Hand of Glory was that he had to endure its side effects himself, so he couldn’t use it for extended periods. He had to aim precisely before igniting it each time.
The Alien Parasite from back then, however, could use the Hand of Glory continuously because it had a host body to endure the side effects for him, which made him seem exceptionally powerful.
However, just as Jayad’s Hand of Glory connected and was about to successfully restrain Moore, Moore pulled out a bizarre statue from his collar.
“Ugh!” Everyone present felt a splitting headache the instant they saw the statue. Their spirits suffered immense impact, and they even seemed to hallucinate. The surroundings turned into a cold, damp underground.
It was a statue of a black, long-haired toad in a semi-crouched position. The material it was made from felt extremely strange—neither stone, wood, nor jade. Looking at it felt like gazing into the universe or the abyss, radiating an indescribable oppressive aura.
“Xath’gwa!” I cried out in terror, immediately averting my gaze.
“Silence! You heretic dare to utter Our Lord’s name?!” Moore yelled menacingly. Fueled by the oppressive aura released the moment the statue appeared, he broke free from the Hand of Glory’s immobilization and, instead, rendered us all immobile.
“Ugh! Damn it!” Amidst the sudden shock, the Hand of Glory in Jayad’s grasp flew out. He tried to retrieve it, but he was currently unable to move.
Moreover, Jayad’s condition was dire. Continuous use of the Hand of Glory, coupled with staring at the Evil God’s statue just now, had severely shaken his spirit. I saw the eyes on his body starting to appear again, struggling to open.
Moore walked up to Sebastian and kicked him to the ground. “Speak! Where is Pierce’s secret hidden?!”
“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about?” Sebastian asked through gritted teeth.
“Stop playing dumb. Pierce must have left his research findings in the tomb. Hand them over, and I might consider letting you go!” Moore said, stepping on his chest and threatening him.
Sebastian grimaced in pain, but he still tried to stall Moore. “Since you know it’s in the tomb, why don’t you go get it yourself?”
“Hmph! You’ve already entered the tomb twice and surely obtained the research findings. The tomb is now an empty shell. Do you take me for a fool?!” Moore’s foot rotated on Sebastian’s chest, increasing the pressure.
I suddenly understood. Moore had misunderstood something. He believed our objective was the same as his: to find the research findings left by Pierce.
