The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 447

Chapter 447 Vampire Banshee

“So what should we do? Head to the small town first, or go check out the motorcade?” Jayad asked.

“Let’s check out the motorcade first. I think it’s a merchant caravan or some travelers. They should be more accepting of outsiders than a village. We still don’t know the rules of the Dream World, so we need to follow some people to get familiar with it,” I said.

Jayad and I pulled up our cloak hoods, making us look like ordinary travelers. I then checked Jayad’s and my chests. The Seal of the Deep Sea was still hanging properly on my chest.

No problem, everything is safe for now. Although I can no longer feel my physical body in reality, Samantha should still be monitoring us. If anything goes wrong, she’ll pull us out.

Next up were our weapons. My magic wand from reality, Jayad’s dagger, and the Dream Awakening Spell scroll Samantha gave us were all here. Good, we can depart.

Jayad led the way, and we ran towards the northeast. Soon, we found a dirt road in the black forest. I don’t know how it was created. The pure black, leafless trees on both sides stopped growing at the edge of the road, and not even branches extended over it.

Although it was just a dirt road, it was incredibly flat, as if a road roller had passed over it repeatedly, without even a single bump.

This road didn’t look like it was naturally formed, nor was it artificially dug. Simply put, it wasn’t the kind of path that becomes a road after many people walk on it; it was more like the concept of a road was directly manifested on the ground. Besides the road, there was nothing else here.

Soon, a sound came from one side of the road. A motorcade emerged. As soon as I saw it, I understood why Jayad had said the motorcade was unusual.

First, the carriages themselves were flying in mid-air. Each carriage was pulled by four black flying horses. They were completely black from head to toe, including their manes and tails, and they had bat-like wings.

The problem was, those horse-drawn carriages showed no respect for the law of gravity. Logically, vehicles carrying so much cargo should have fallen, even if these scrawny-looking horses could pull them, they should have been hanging below.

But the carriages were being pulled by the black flying horses, flying steadily. Their speed wasn’t fast; they were just moving along leisurely, as if they could also float, and the flying horses were merely providing the pulling force.

Beside the flying horses were women flying in mid-air. Most of them were alluring and beautiful, wearing very little clothing, revealing large expanses of fair skin. They also had a pair of bat wings on their backs, constantly flapping.

No wonder Jayad said the motorcade was strange and not human as soon as we took to the sky. These bat-women flying in the sky really didn’t look human at all.

“Vampires?” Jayad immediately had this reaction upon seeing these women, especially since his Detect Evil and Spirit Vision could see the thick, filthy blood energy emanating from them.

Vampire Banshees. Low-level Blood Kin creatures. Outsiders would consider them a type of vampire, but within the Blood Race, they wouldn’t be treated as equals. They usually served only as maids or soldiers to vampires.

Dream Steeds. Native monsters of the Dream World. They were docile and obedient, easy to tame, and could pull very heavy wagons and fly in the air. Their drawback was their timidity, making them unsuitable for combat.

The racial knowledge of the two flying races flooded into my brain. This was the first time I learned about the native creatures of the Dream World. I never expected those black horses, which looked so ferocious and terrifying, to actually be cowards.

Besides the flying motorcade, there was also a motorcade on the ground. This time, the carts were pulled by animals that looked like wolves but had a single horn on their foreheads. Beside them were a group of short people wearing cloaks.

When they saw people on the road, they instantly became nervous. The people in the ground motorcade quickly moved to the front, pulling out crossbows. The Vampire Banshees in the sky also reacted fiercely and immediately surrounded us.

Jayad stood in front of me, raising his hands to indicate he had no weapons, and then shouted, “We mean no harm, we just saw someone here, so we came to take a look!”

Those short people didn’t lower their crossbows, but they weren’t as tense as before. After a while, a tall man in a black robe, whose clothes looked like they were woven from crow feathers, walked out from within the motorcade. He held a long-handled great hammer in his hand. The face of the hammer was studded with spikes for crushing flesh, looking very frightening.

Compared to him, those short people seemed even smaller. They actively made way for this man, indicating he was the leader of this merchant caravan.

Speaking of which, since arriving in the Dream World, most of the colors I’ve seen have been black. Whether it was the Dream Steeds, these short people, or the trees in the background, they were all black. The rest were mostly grayish-white.

The colors were very monotonous. The most vibrant color was the blood moon overhead. Truly, have I come to the Dream World or the Realm of Death?

“Who are you two? How dare you wander around in the Black Forest by yourselves? You’re not ordinary people,” the tall man said. He looked up, and beneath his hood was a resolute, bald middle-aged man.

“We are just two travelers. Please don’t mind us. I see you seem to be heading to the town ahead. How about we travel together?” Jayad said.

“Hmm?” The bald man was still scrutinizing us. Some of the Vampire Banshees in the sky flew down and whispered in his ear, “Fresh humans! Blood! Blood! Especially that young man, he can be shared among the sisters!”

“Wait! Stop! Don’t provoke them!” The bald man warned sternly, but the Vampire Banshees still swarmed forward. They let out screams and dove towards us.

“Wait?!” We were just talking nicely, and now they’re turning hostile all of a sudden? The leader on the other side even said to wait.

“Parul, retreat!” Jayad said, and his whole body suddenly lit up with dazzling Holy Light.

“Aoo!” The Vampire Banshees rushing towards Jayad let out screams. Just being illuminated by the Holy Light caused at least a dozen Vampire Banshees to fall from the sky, their once beautiful skin covered in dark scorched marks.

Jayad had already held back. His Holy Light was just a flash, like a flashbang. This wouldn’t directly kill the Vampire Banshees, but they were routed in just one encounter.

Moreover, the startled Dream Steeds immediately scattered everywhere, and the motorcade descended into chaos. As the knowledge predicted, Dream Steeds were truly timid and would run wild at the slightest scare.

Also, Jayad is really popular with the Blood Kin, isn’t he? Via was also determined to suck his blood. Does Older Brother Jayad’s blood smell that good?

Uh, it feels like it should smell very good. Thinking about it, I even want to taste it. Wah! I’m drooling. This won’t do, calm down, calm down!

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
