Chapter 458 A Strange Little Town
Overall, the impression this little town left on me was the same as what Mr. Jayad said: it was strange. How strange, you ask? The architectural styles were inconsistent and extremely contradictory.
On a high ground in the distance stood a magnificent castle, much like a quaint castle from the Middle Ages, with several towers rising from low to high around it. The hillside below was covered in tombstones, giving the impression that the castle was built in the center of a cemetery.
In stark contrast to this was a giant fleshy mass, resembling a living organism yet its specific type was unknown. It was surrounded by raised, horn-like tentacles reaching towards the sky, covered in sharp spikes. The center of the mass seemed to have a gaping maw filled with tentacles, and its body rhythmically pulsed.
What kind of monster was this? It was utterly inconceivable. It certainly scared me. These two massive structures were the most prominent buildings in Robin Town, assuming the fleshy mass could be considered a building.
Within the town, there were a lot of residential buildings, but their styles again clashed. Some were built entirely of stone, looking very rough; others were made of wood, not much different from ordinary thatched cottages.
There were even some built of iron sheets, resembling construction sheds. Some were even tents made of beast hides and cloth. These wildly different styles were all put together, jointly forming this incredibly bizarre Robin Town.
Furthermore, at the town entrance, there were fortifications and watchtowers, and fully armed…
Seeing the motorcade return, many townspeople greeted them with happy smiles. Some were there to welcome their relatives in the motorcade, some wanted to see if there were any good things, and others came to buy food brought from other places, as they were truly sick of eating fish.
“Alright, we have officially returned to town. Thank you all for your cooperation and hard work along the way. You are dismissed. The next motorcade departure will be discussed and decided after this shipment is processed. Free activity!” Stepping through the town gate, Fabes finally showed a relaxed smile.
“Oh!” everyone cheered. While they didn’t immediately scatter like sand, it was clear that everyone in the motorcade had stopped, starting to unload or heading into town.
And I finally saw the creature I had been curious about: the Kou Tao Merman. It was a half-fish, half-human creature with a flat fish head, large, round, dead fish eyes, fins on its head, arms, and sides of its throat, webbing between its fingers and toes, and its entire body covered in scales.
They wore clothes made of fish skin or simple rags, with fishhooks and nets around their waists, clearly embodying the image of a fisherman.
I couldn’t help but chuckle slightly. They were mermen, yet they were also fishermen?
Anyway, this town was a gathering place for various Otherworldly beings. Besides the so-called Four Great Families, there were other races, and also quite a few Humans. Of course, whether they were true Humans or just looked like them, I had no way of knowing.
But it was precisely because of so many Otherworldly beings that this strange little town was formed, composed of so many buildings with different styles pieced together.
Just as I was wondering where to investigate with Mr. Jayad, the Shaggai Wormgirl walked up to me. “Hey, outsider, do you have a place to stay?”
“Ah? I don’t yet,” I replied, a little surprised by her sudden approach.
If not, would you like to be our guest? I’d like to introduce you to the Queen of the Insects. I’m sure she’ll be very hospitable,” said the Wormgirl.
I had originally intended to accept her offer. After all, I was unfamiliar with this place, and having a place to stay would be good. But as soon as she mentioned introducing me to the Queen of the Insects, I immediately refused.
I was just an outsider, and I had only completed one transaction with her. I wasn’t that familiar with the Shaggai Wormgirl, yet she invited me and even offered to introduce me to their queen. This was definitely not right.
I didn’t think I possessed any value that would impress the Queen of the Insects. Even if I had pheromones that could make the Shaggai Insect Race mistake me for a companion and increase their favorability, I had no confidence in whether they would still be effective on their leader.
Although this was just a small town, and that so-called Queen of the Insects was merely the leader of one family, I was still very wary of leaders of such Otherworldly beings before meeting them.
“Never mind, we still want to explore the town. We won’t be rushing to your place for now. Thank you for your kind offer,” I politely declined, leaving some room for future interaction.
“Alright, well, if you can’t find a place later, you can come to the Main Nest to find me. That is, that one,” the Wormgirl said, casually pointing to the giant fleshy mass.
At first, I was interested in her offer of a place to stay. But when she pointed to that fleshy mass, revealing it to be their Main Nest, my interest vanished completely. Did that look like a place for people to live?
“Uh, sure.” I forced a smile to appease her, thinking to myself that I would absolutely not go. Had my pheromones given her the wrong impression? Did she think I was also an Insectoid and could live in such a place?
“Then, goodbye.” The Shaggai Wormgirl didn’t pester me further and turned to leave.
However, just as one wave subsided, another arose. As soon as she left, several Vampire Banshees flew down and said to Mr. Jayad, “Mr. Jayad, Madam wishes to invite you to the castle as a guest. We will be very hospitable.”
Enough! I never expected my sibling and I to be so popular. On our first day in this unfamiliar Dream World, two groups were already fighting over inviting us to their homes.
However, although I didn’t know what the Shaggai Insect Race wanted with me, the purpose of the Vampire Banshees was easy to guess: they wanted Mr. Jayad’s blood.
But if we went to their castle, with hundreds of Vampire Banshees sucking blood all at once, even with my Life Elixir, Mr. Jayad would surely be drained dry.
Mr. Jayad naturally knew the risks involved. He couldn’t risk his life just because they were beautiful. “Thank you for your invitation, but I have some matters to attend to and cannot visit you at the moment.”
“Understood. The ancient castle welcomes your visit at any time.” The Vampire Banshees turned and flew back. However, halfway back, another Vampire Banshee flew over and said to them, “Madam is about to advance. Hurry back and prepare the Ritual site.”
“Madam is about to advance? How is that possible? Wasn’t it said that it would take at least a few more years?” one Vampire Banshee exclaimed in surprise.
“It’s not just Madam; it seems her close attendants are also about to transform. It is said that this time they have a chance to become true Blood Race!” the Vampire Banshee shouted excitedly.
“How is that possible?! Wait, could it be…?” Several Vampire Banshees suddenly realized the reason and turned to look in the direction they had just come from.
However, Mr. Jayad and I had already fled. Who would stay behind to wait for them? By the way, I really want to complain about Mr. Jayad’s physique. Why did his blood have such a potent effect?
