Chapter 504: The Little Ghost Meets the Vampire
I really wanted to try it out right away, but because I was afraid of accidents happening if I was alone at home with no one to look after me, I called Via down to help.
“Parul (Sister), what is it?” Via poked her head out curiously as she opened the door, looking at me. It was already night, and this was Via’s active time.
“I want to try this thing, an External Brain. Can you watch over me?” I showed Via the glass tube.
“What is this thing? It looks like a brain? But it doesn’t look like the brain of a normal creature, and it’s so small,” Via said, looking at the Queen of the Insects’ brain in the jar with doubt.
“I got this from a kind of insectoid race called Xhaga when I went to the Dream World. It’s said that it can become a second brain, allowing one to do four things at once,” I explained.
“Huh?” Via was clearly a bit confused by my words. “What are you talking about? Father said that things from the Dream World are very dangerous and shouldn’t be touched.”
“Yes, that’s why I called you here. I’m not sure what the consequences will be after connecting it, so I wanted you to watch over me. If something goes wrong, please pull out these two tubes from my back,” I said, holding the two tubes.
“Okay.” Via nodded. After all, her identity now was that of my subordinate, and she couldn’t disobey my orders. Whatever I asked her to do, she had to do.
“Then, first things first, insert these two tubes into the spine area on my back. Uh, I guess it’s like this…” I fiddled with the tubes as I studied them.
I made a mistake. When I got this thing, I should have asked the Queen of the Insects for an instruction manual. I believe that as their main product, the External Brain must have a user manual.
“It should be like this, inserting these two needles into the spine?” Via studied it with me. There were two thick, long needles on the tubes, which were probably used to connect to the central nervous system, but they looked terrifying.
“I, I’m a bit afraid to insert them. Little Via, please do it for me,” I said with a wry smile, taking off my upper body clothes and revealing my back.
“Okay, Parul (Sister), don’t move. I’ll be as quick as possible.” Via took the tubes and moved behind me.
Just as I was about to say “gently” or “wait until I’m psychologically prepared,” I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my spine, both above and below. Little Via had suddenly used a surprise attack and inserted them directly.
“Ah!” I let out a surprised gasp. I didn’t expect Little Via to suddenly attack, but it was precisely because she inserted them without a word that it was over before I could panic.
How should I put it? It certainly hurt, but not as much as I imagined. It was within an acceptable range.
As I was about to say something to Via, I suddenly felt my consciousness spreading out. My brain began to broaden, my thoughts suddenly became much faster, and I could even think about two different things.
No, three things, four things. I could really think about four things simultaneously. Only when I started thinking about a fifth thing did I begin to feel a contradiction, a sense of having to abandon one of my thoughts.
This magical experience was something I had never felt in my life. It was an experience that was impossible for a human to have, indescribable, and truly amazing.
“Parul (Sister), Parul (Sister)! Can you hear me? Are you okay?” Via called out to me from the side.
“Uh, I’m fine. I don’t think there’s any problem,” I replied, looking up at Via. It seemed that even while speaking, I could still think about other things.
What if I used this brain to cast spells? I remembered that the Queen of the Insects had said that the External Brain could be used for casting spells. So, I began to pre-read four spells in my mind simultaneously.
It actually worked. The four spells were distinct and didn’t interfere with each other. Although the efficiency of three of the spells would be extremely low due to the lack of a magic wand and the inability to chant the full incantation, it was still simultaneous casting, which greatly increased efficiency.
“What are you guys arguing about?” Just then, a small head suddenly emerged from the wall. It was Lorna, who had returned after eating her fill of crabs. I didn’t expect her to come back after hearing the noise.
Speaking of which, Via lives on the roof of my house, and Lorna lives next door. Neither of them is human, and I’ve known both of them for quite some time. However, they don’t seem to know each other, and they always miss each other when they visit my place.
Of course, it’s hard to say if they’ve met elsewhere, as they are neighbors in the same building.
“Who? How dare you trespass on Parul (Sister)’s house!” Via reacted quickly, instantly condensing a blood sword in her hand and pointing it at Lorna.
“Eek!” Lorna seemed to be startled by Via and shrank back into the wall.
“Little Via, stop! She’s my friend. Lorna, come here, it’s alright. We won’t hurt you.” While speaking to Via, I had already begun using Necromancy, thanks to being connected to the External Brain.
“Boo?” Lorna was drawn back again by the Necromancy, and Via put away her blood sword. The two undead girls glared at each other and asked simultaneously, “Who are you?”
As expected, they didn’t know each other. I had to act as an intermediary to introduce them. “This is Lorna, a ghost who lives in the next room. This is Via, a Vampire who lives upstairs. Get to know each other. As fellow undead, you should get along well.”
“Ah! So you’re that gloomy resentment from next door! I thought it was some powerful vengeful spirit. I didn’t expect you to just be a little ghost,” Via said, looking at Lorna in surprise.
“Uh, yes, I am. So, you’re the source of that smell of blood from upstairs?” Lorna’s demeanor visibly weakened in front of Via.
Perhaps a little ghost isn’t a forceful girl and is more timid. Maybe it’s due to a difference in racial hierarchy. Ghosts might be intimidated by Vampires, or perhaps there’s a significant gap in their strength.
“Little Via, don’t bully her,” I reminded her again.
“Yes, since she’s a ghost raised by Parul (Sister), I certainly won’t bully her,” Via replied obediently.
“I’m not a ghost raised by Parul (Sister)!” Lorna protested.
I felt my head hurt. You two sisters, based on your real ages, you’re both older than me, even quite a bit older. Why are you both calling me “Sister”?
In any case, the two of them have now officially met. Although their first meeting was a bit tense and awkward, I quickly thought of something to liven up the atmosphere.
I took out the fairy tale book I bought last time. Little girls like listening to fairy tales, don’t they? “Hey, you two, would you like to hear me tell a fairy tale?”
