Chapter 615 Ruins and the Lake
“Older Brother Jayad! Older Brother Jayad?” I called out his name loudly, but Jayad was completely unconscious, only groaning softly, or rather, sleep-talking.
I tried hard to understand what he was saying, but despite the different pronunciations, I couldn’t understand his words at all; they were almost unintelligible.
From my own experience of having Nightmares, I felt this situation was not good. His consciousness might be deeply trapped, and I had to break it. However, even shaking him hard didn’t wake him.
What should I do? Just then, I suddenly remembered that I had a Dream Card. I took out the Azure blue Dream Card and placed it on Jayad’s forehead.
His expression softened a bit, and he no longer cried out in pain during his sleep. But I still couldn’t wake him. There was no other way, so I decided to stick myself onto the Dream Card as well.
Jayad and I were almost nose-to-nose, the Dream Card sandwiched between our foreheads. I slumped onto him, and my consciousness began to blur. I knew this position might be a bit intimate, but to save Older Brother Jayad, I had to go myself.
I could share dreams with Jayad, and I had also brought a backup Prop with me, obtained from Samantha: the Awakening Scroll, and the Seal of the Deep Sea. With these, I should be able to bring Jayad back.
Entering the Dream, the sky was an endless starry sky, and before me was still a peaceful Azure blue sea. I was on the beach, but I quickly realized something was wrong.
There were no three moons in the sky, only a brilliant starry sky. I could also see two large fireballs. If my astronomical knowledge was correct, those might be two distant stars.
Although it’s normal for there not to be three moons in the sky due to the relationship between celestial bodies, sometimes one or two might be absent, but it’s definitely not like now where there are none, and two unfamiliar celestial bodies are hanging there.
My intuition told me that this was no longer Earth, or at least not the world I had transmigrated to. However, since it was a dream, anything was possible.
But I immediately noticed that this was also different from the beach yesterday. Yesterday, when I entered this dream, there were beautiful forests and hills all around. Now, everything was ruins, with shattered walls and collapsed buildings everywhere.
Judging from the tall stone walls that had long since collapsed and the faintly visible mysterious murals on them, this ruin must have once been a magnificent ancient CITY, but it had long since sunk and was half-buried in the sandfield, leaving only some ruins to tell of its past glory.
And the calm sea before me was not actually a sea, but a lake, a huge lake. Although I could barely see its edge, I could see continuous mountain ranges on the other side of the lake.
I felt a chill, goosebumps rising on my skin. My intuition told me that this place was very dangerous, full of deadly perils everywhere, but I couldn’t find the source of the danger. This feeling was very uncomfortable, truly a Nightmare.
I already knew that the Dream Card could not actually stop the Erosion of Nightmares, but it would be changed by the Nightmare’s invasion based on the Dream’s original tone. If I had used the King Card, I might have become the king of this ancient city, watching my magnificent city crumble to pieces with my own eyes.
“Parul?” Just then, a familiar voice rang out. I turned around in surprise and saw Older Brother Jayad walking out from behind a broken wall in the ruins, looking at me in astonishment.
“Older Brother Jayad!” I immediately rushed towards him, repeatedly confirming his body. It was so good to see he was unharmed, although he seemed a bit dazed.
“Parul, what are you doing here?” Jayad asked, regaining his composure.
“Do I need to say? Of course, I’m here to save you. I hope this works.” I opened the Awakening Scroll, and instantly a ray of light erupted from the scroll, enveloping me and Older Brother Jayad.
The surrounding scene began to shatter. After a dizzying spin, I was back in the familiar small room. I was completely slumped on top of Jayad, face to face, our mouths even touching.
“Ah!” I quickly lifted my head. How did our lips touch? They weren’t touching when I fell asleep before.
“Ugh! My head hurts so much!” Jayad opened his eyes, clutching his head. Not to mention him, I also felt a headache. It seemed that being forcibly awakened from a Nightmare would indeed cause a headache.
But the Awakening Scroll really worked, which was enough. That ruin complex gave me a very dangerous feeling, and an even more dangerous preview came from the endless lake shore.
Fortunately, we got out in time, unlike Amelia who was trapped in the Dream World. However, it might also be because I reacted quickly. As soon as I noticed Jayad couldn’t be woken up, I immediately took the Awakening Scroll and went in to find him. Otherwise, if he had encountered some terrifying and unknown entities and attracted their attention, it would have been harder to take him away.
“Parul, why are you riding on me? And were you touching my face just now?” Although Jayad had just woken up, we both came out at the same time. The scent of me still lingered on his face.
“You’re still talking about it? It was all to save you!” I got off him with a blush. However, if it was to save someone, I didn’t mind such an accidental kiss. After all, I had even given him artificial respiration before.
“Thank you so much, Parul. That Dream was indeed terrifying. I thought I would never return.” Jayad struggled to get up, and the Dream Card on his head fell off.
The originally Azure blue Dream Card had now become dim. I had used it once last night, and this time it was used by both Jayad and me. That’s three times. With one or two more uses, the dream energy inside should be depleted and ruined.
Unfortunately, a Dream Card, a legitimate Dream Card, was used three times, all for Nightmares. It was really tough on it.
“Wait, Older Brother Jayad, what are you holding in your hand?” I looked at Jayad’s hand in surprise. He was holding a piece of stone, and the style of this stone felt very familiar.
It was very similar to the fragment that the Great Fly gave me earlier and the ruins in the dream. Ah, right, I just realized that the ruins in the dream and the fragment in my hand had the same style, both made of slightly yellow, old stone.
“This? It seems I picked it up in the dream just now. I met Parul right after picking it up, so I forgot to discard it. Listening to the whispers, it seemed to say something like… Carcosa, Lake Hali?” Jayad said, looking at the stone in his hand, bewildered.
Damn it! It was the same name I heard during the meeting. Not only that, I felt that Jayad was also resonating with the stone in some way. There was a mysterious energy interaction between him and the stone, and he himself was even enveloped in a layer of mysterious energy.
His condition was not right. That Nightmare had left some Mark or condition on Jayad.
Just then, a surge of Knowledge flooded into my memory, and I also understood Jayad’s current situation.
“The Unspeakable Covenant.”
