Chapter 730: The Burial Matter
“Alright!” As Leoman made the final stroke, every wall in the entire room was filled with scriptures. The scriptures, written with the pen, formed a circle and connected back together, enclosing the room.
“Kha!” A golden light illuminated from the walls, completely enveloping the room. I immediately felt a very uncomfortable sensation, as if the entire room was rejecting me.
This is bad. After getting used to being with Older Brother Jayad, I forgot that I am also an Evil creature. This is because Older Brother Jayad’s Holy Light never rejected me.
Now Leoman has created a barrier, and I feel rejected. Although I’m not being directly purified by Holy Light, my whole body feels uncomfortable, like being baked under the sun on a hot day.
If the room is like this, I won’t be able to sleep. I’d have to borrow a bed from Lorna. But if Older Brother Jayad isn’t holding me as I sleep, I’ll have nightmares. If both of us move out, what’s the point of setting up a barrier in the room? It would be better not to have set it up from the start.
“Alright, this should be sufficient. Even if someone were to bombard this room with cannons, they wouldn’t be able to break through it easily, and outsiders should also be unable to pry into the room,” Leoman said, clapping her hands.
The golden light on the room’s walls gradually dimmed, and even the scripture’s writing began to dissipate, eventually becoming like any ordinary room, with no visible abnormalities.
I wouldn’t immediately say anything. She kindly helped set up a barrier for my room without charging anything, and if I immediately complained about feeling uncomfortable and asked her to remove it, it would feel rather ungrateful to Leoman.
There isn’t no compromise. I thought about it, and after Leoman leaves, I’ll have Jayad rub out a small portion of the writing on the wall. This should break the barrier, and then we can observe our surroundings with our own senses. Once there’s a situation, we can immediately reconnect the writing, and the barrier will reactivate.
Jayad’s Strength is of the same origin as Leoman’s, and this matter doesn’t require any advanced Technology; it’s probably like connecting circuits. The barrier is already set up, and it will function once connected. At most, it will require Holy Light to charge it, which Older Brother Jayad should be able to do.
Of course, this means the barrier’s real-time protection and anti-surveillance features will be gone. But there’s no other way, we can’t just not sleep, can we? It’s choosing the lesser of two evils.
“Afterward, you just need to periodically charge it with Holy Light to keep it running. By the way, I haven’t taught you how to charge Magic Apparatus or Magic Circles yet, have I? If the technique is wrong, it might damage the Magic Apparatus. Since there’s time now, I might as well teach you here.” Leoman said.
Jayad, of course, readily agreed. In fact, after not seeing his teacher for so long, he had many questions accumulated in his heart, and he planned to ask them all at once. So, the two of them began a pleasant and intimate study session.
“I’ll go do something else then. You two can learn slowly.” Seeing that I temporarily had nothing to do, I left my home. I indeed had scheduled matters to attend to in the afternoon.
I arrived next door. Those three girls were staring intently at the wall, and my room was right on the other side.
“That wicked woman actually shielded the room. I can’t get through. What a hateful scent, I hate Holy Light the most. It burns me whenever it touches me,” Via said indignantly.
Hating Holy Light, yet you always stick close to Older Brother Jayad? I thought to myself.
“I feel the same, but I don’t think it’s to the point of causing me harm, just… a very unpleasant feeling.” Sherris also said. Her feeling should be the same as mine. If I opened the door, I could go in, but I would have to endure that feeling of direct sunlight.
“I don’t find it that unpleasant. I feel like… it’s acceptable? I even feel like I could pass through it.” Lorna said. She curiously rubbed the wall, and golden ripples spread across the wall. Her fingers sank into it, as if she were putting them into water.
“Alright, I know you can, but don’t do it now. Leoman is still in the room. If you pass through the barrier, she should sense it,” I reminded her. Lorna is no longer an Undead or an Evil creature, so she can legitimately go through without feeling any discomfort.
“So, how long is that woman named Leoman going to stay with Big Brother? If she doesn’t leave, I won’t be able to see Big Brother anymore?” Via asked, very displeased.
“That’s not necessarily true. She’s also a busy person. She should leave after teaching him. However, you should be prepared for the situation where she and Older Brother Jayad will be together often for a while.” I said.
“How can that be? Why don’t we think of a way to drive her away from Big Brother together? Like a surprise attack at night!” Via started proposing bad ideas.
“Don’t even think about it. Right now, she’s willing to teach Older Brother Jayad the usage of Holy Light properly. You need to learn to get used to it and be patient. However, if necessary, you might also need to get to know her, but before that, you need to slowly hint to her so that she accepts your existence.”
Actually, I think it’s difficult. This doesn’t depend on me, but on Leoman. Her tolerance for Undead creatures is the crucial factor. If her doctrine is one of irreconcilable conflict with Undead creatures, then no amount of talking would persuade her.
“Hmph~!” Via puffed out her cheeks in anger, looking so indignant that one would want to poke her face.
“Alright, let’s not talk about this. Let’s discuss serious matters. Lorna, I’m preparing to help you bury your mother.” I said.
“Ah? Right, right.” Only then did Lorna remember. They had agreed last night that she would let her mother rest in peace today.
“So, we’ll prepare and then depart. Sherris, you come along to help as well. However, Via can only stay at home.” I said. Sherris had a good relationship with Madam, so of course, she had to see her off.
“I know. It’s because of my father’s influence, sigh! I’m going to sleep!” Via said unhappily. They weren’t taking her to the burial, and Big Brother was being pestered by that wicked woman. she was left alone, feeling that being a Vampire was utterly boring.
“Alright, alright, just bear with it for half the day. Leoman should be gone by night. I’ll give you permission for Older Brother Jayad to accompany you tonight. Until then, drink some blood to bear with it.” I handed Via a full bottle of blood.
“Wah! Why is there so much? How many Magical Beasts did you kill?” Via was shocked looking at the blood bottle. Even from the perspective of a Gluttony Believer, this blood was enough for her to drink for a while.
“It’s not really many, just three. They were just particularly large.” The three were a Centipede Snake, a Wild Boar King, and a Snake Chicken, all of which have a lot of blood. I drank for a long time.
“Thank you, Parul (Sister)!” Indeed, with the blood, Via became happy again. She drank heartily from the bottle of blood as if it were a milk drink, taking great satisfaction in it after such a long time.
