The Little Witch’s Daily Struggle – Chapter 799

Chapter 799: How Did Another Girl Appear?

“Via?” I looked to the side and saw a shadow surge out from the darkness. Then, this human-shaped shadow rose up, transforming into a cute girl with twin ponytails – it was Via.

So the packhorse had brought us to find Via. It was amazing that it wasn’t present at the start, yet it could figure out the location of our scattered party members, especially since we were taken out inside a painting. Does this packhorse have a sense of smell comparable to a dog’s?

“Big Brother! You’re back safely. I couldn’t contact you in the middle, and I was so worried!” Via flung herself into Jayad’s embrace.

The problem was, I was still in Older Brother Jayad’s embrace too, which made it a bit crowded. However, Via immediately hugged me too.

“Sister Parul was also unreachable. Lorna and I were going crazy with worry. I almost went to Father to ask, but I was afraid of disturbing his fight,” Via said anxiously, clearly having been through a lot of fear.

“Alright, alright, we’re fine now,” Older Brother Jayad stroked her head. The little vampire seemed very comfortable and closed her eyes.

I was also quite touched. I stroked her face. You have to know she had run away from home. If her father caught her, she would be severely punished. Even so, she was willing to find her father for us.

“And Sherris, it’s really great that you’re alright too.” Via turned to Sherris and hugged her.

“Uh, um…” The little ghoul was a bit uneasy. She felt like Via treated everyone as a plaything, and she hadn’t expected Via to care about her.

Especially since Via was a higher-ranking vampire. Undead creatures generally had faint emotions, and with the suppression of their ranks, it was rare for higher-ranking undead to care about lower-ranking ones. It was like a Lich wouldn’t care about a Skeleton.

“Is Lorna alright?” I asked.

“She’s fine, she’s right beside us.” Via looked to the side.

“It’s great that everyone is safe and sound.” Lorna’s head emerged from the wall beside us.

She became timid again. The ghost girl had lived in that apartment building for over twenty years, and the only time she went out was with me to the cemetery yesterday.

Now the apartment building was burned down, and we had disappeared. Lorna was experiencing homelessness for the first time. Only now that we were back was she at ease.

“Huh?! Why is there a girl in the carriage? And she’s a High Elf!” Via exclaimed in surprise, only now noticing the elf lying in the carriage.

“Hmm? Older Brother Jayad, who is she?” Lorna also looked at Jayad with her big eyes, seemingly questioning why he would pick up another girl while fleeing.

“It’s a long story. We’ve been through a lot too, haven’t we? Let me get out of the carriage first,” Older Brother Jayad dodged the question, carrying me as he got off.

At this moment, my weakness intensified. I even felt unsteady, a chill spreading through my body. I could only lean on the carriage. “Via, do you have any clothes?”

“Sister Parul, are you feeling very cold? We left in a hurry and didn’t bring any clothes,” Via said with difficulty. She and Lorna were undead and didn’t feel cold; they had no body temperature.

When we escaped, all our valuable belongings were entrusted to Via to be taken away in her shadow. But the situation was urgent. They would prioritize important items. Clothes, being inexpensive, were naturally not a priority. They were likely destroyed in the fire now.

“Parul, are you alright? Your expression isn’t right,” Older Brother Jayad said worriedly, holding me. Holy Light emanated from him, providing me with some warmth.

“I don’t know. Perhaps it’s because I used too much Black Magic? I feel so tired and cold,” I said. I had been fighting continuously for the past two days, never stopping my use of magic. It would have been impossible not to suffer backlash from the Black Magic energy if that were the case. I just didn’t expect it to reach the critical point precisely tonight. What bad timing.

Furthermore, I felt my body growing weaker. Even with Older Brother Jayad holding me, it only ensured I wasn’t cold. I only now realized that I was almost too weak to walk. Everything felt as if I had just transmigrated.

“We need to find a place to stay so Parul can lie down,” Jayad said with a troubled expression. There was another patient in the carriage, and all sorts of trouble seemed to converge.

“Well, I did find a temporary resting place. It’s quite a large house, but then again, we picked up another girl,” Via said, a little embarrassed.

“What? Who?” I asked in surprise.

“You’ll know when you get here. This way.” Via led the way, and she even picked up El. Older Brother Jayad then carried me in a princess carry, following behind her.

Even though it was midnight, this factory district was still in operation. Several large factories were brightly lit, with the sounds of machinery continuing throughout the night. Smoke billowed from their chimneys.

I estimated that the workers in these sweatshops probably worked over sixteen hours a day, with two shifts working non-stop, day and night, producing at full capacity without a moment’s rest.

Via led us directly into a factory. This factory was huge. Just the eight chimneys indicated its massive scale, not to mention the large water tower outside, rows of shipping containers, and various other well-equipped facilities like the large warehouses.

Did she mean to hide us inside the factory? That wasn’t a good idea. Factories were noisy and crowded. How did she plan to hide?

Via indeed intended to lead us into the factory, but not entirely. In the courtyard behind this factory, several terraced villas had been built, three stories high. They were adjacent to the factory and likely connected.

These were probably dormitories for the factory’s senior management. Since they had to operate day and night, the senior management must also have a place to rest at the factory. I just hadn’t expected a dormitory to be built so well; it was comparable to a modest private home.

Lorna flew to the door of one of the villas and pushed it open. “This is it. After we escaped, Miss Via searched for a long time before finding this suitable residence.”

“Wait a moment. Don’t vampires need to be personally invited by the master to enter someone’s home?” I asked. If there was no one in this villa, how did Via get in?

“That’s why I specifically found a villa that was occupied, and then had Lorna possess him and open the door to invite me in. Isn’t that how it works?” Via flew into the living room without any obstacles.

“So, someone lives here?” I hadn’t expected such a maneuver.

“It’s fine; he’s just a Deputy Manager. I’ve already hypnotized him, and he has his own family. He’ll leave early tomorrow morning, and this villa will be ours to use,” Via said with a triumphant smile.

You hear the penny-dreadful tales, don’t you? Souls whisked off to other worlds, landing in lives of ease and splendor. Reborn as young lords in grand manors, with enchanted baubles at their fingertips or a spectral mentor whispering secrets. But my own ‘grand arrival’? No gentle angel to light the path. Instead, a repulsive, foul deity—some forgotten horror from a darker age—claimed me. I was tormented to the very edge of oblivion, then pitched into a twisted, gaslit world of shadows and fear. I awoke in the frail body of an orphan girl, shivering in some rat-infested rookery, choked by smog and despair. Weak, plagued by illness, with a hunger that gnawed relentlessly. My new story didn’t start from scratch; it began deep in the dregs, clawing my way up from less than nothing.” Now, all I fight for is to live, to see another grimy sunrise over these cobbled streets. Not just for my own skin, but for him—the one whose fate is tangled with mine, the one soul I cling to in this godforsaken, fog-drenched city.
