Chapter 930 – After the Bloody Battle
After Via’s Mother left with the spoils of war I had captured, Via finally breathed a sigh of relief. She had been on edge, afraid her mother would drag her back to face Father, but now she was gone.
“Parul (Sister), why did Mom find us at home? Did you tell Father about me?” Via asked with a wronged expression, as if she thought I had betrayed her.
“When your father came to rescue us that night, he passed by the apartment building and sensed your aura. So by the time I went over, your whole family already knew. Your sister was the first to tell me,” I replied.
“Eek! Sister, did she… did she say anything?” Via’s eyes widened in fear. It was clear she was terrified of her sister.
“No, she just said to take good care of her wayward sister,” I answered. Did she really need to be so scared? I felt her family genuinely cared about Via. I couldn’t help but wonder if Via suffered from persecution complex.
“That’s a relief. If Sister had come, it wouldn’t have been just Mom’s scolding. She would have severely punished me,” Via said, patting her chest with relief. Was her status so low at home?
I remembered her mother had mentioned their sisterly relationship was good and that her sister didn’t bully Via.
“Oh, right. Your father is injured. He was hurt that night covering our retreat and is still in a coffin,” I said, hoping Via wouldn’t misunderstand Lavias and create a rift between father and daughter.
“Ah? Is he alright?!” As expected, Via was still worried about her father. Hearing that Lavias was injured, she anxiously asked.
“He’s fine. He’ll probably be bedridden for a few days. I also gave him some of the Old Days’ Blood we captured, so he should recover quickly,” I said.
“That’s good then,” Via finally relaxed.
“Where is El?” I looked around, noticing the Elf Miss hadn’t come down to greet us.
“She’s probably resting. She greeted me when I got home earlier,” Older Brother Jayad said.
“Elves are sensitive, especially after experiencing a great ordeal. They become more vigilant in unfamiliar environments. She’s definitely awake, but she might not want to see strangers, so she hasn’t shown herself,” I said, just as an elf girl in a white dress walked down.
“I didn’t mean to not come down. I just thought I might interrupt your conversation, so I stayed upstairs. I hope I haven’t caused any trouble,” El said softly.
“Of course not, please sit. Lavias brought me some tea and coffee beans, you can have some.” Before I returned, those three Blood Kin girls had already delivered the entrusted Magic Wands, Steam guns, and other items to the hearse, along with a pack of Ceylon black tea and a pack of Crystal Mountain coffee, as part of the deal.
I had tasted them myself. Both had the effect of calming the mind and restoring energy. They were also expensive and tasted superb, which I thought they could try.
So I placed the tea leaves into the kettle on the fireplace to boil, and the aroma of tea filled the air. Older Brother Jayad and El praised it highly. We drank tea and discussed our gains from today.
“My gains are obvious, but this time I brought back many good things for Older Brother Jayad. Ta-da!” I presented the items I bought for Older Brother Jayad, including a greatsword, a pair of tattered shoes, and a Cross necklace.
“Thank you, Parul. But what are these things?” Older Brother Jayad asked, looking at the items I bought with my savings.
“This is a greatsword used by a Knight. It’s sharp and sturdy, and it even hides a secret killing move,” I introduced the greatsword first.
“Hehe, thank you, Parul. But didn’t I say I don’t need to use weapons anymore? Besides, this sword is too big. It’s very conspicuous,” Older Brother Jayad said, picking up the greatsword and swinging it casually.
A gust of wind stirred, blowing the flames in the fireplace. A light breeze swirled around the greatsword, signifying its acceptance of Older Brother Jayad and his right to wield it.
“Huh? This actually seems interesting. What is it?” Older Brother Jayad murmured. The wind suddenly compressed, and even the surrounding air seemed to gather towards the sword. This was clearly the prelude to unleashing the ultimate skill, Wind’s Mourning, just like when that youth used it.
“Wait! Stop! Older Brother Jayad, you can’t use your ultimate skill here! It will destroy the house! We’ll go out of the city another day, and you can try it to your heart’s content,” I hurriedly advised. Didn’t that youth say this skill could only be used by people from his family? Yet, Older Brother Jayad picked up the sword and used it so casually.
Older Brother Jayad could only put the sword down, and the air returned to normal. However, the anomalies he had caused had completely ignited his interest in the greatsword.
“The reason I bought this sword is because you rely too much on Holy Light in combat, Older Brother Jayad,” I reminded him. “This not only attracts the Church’s attention but also draws the attention of those with ill intentions. Especially since the Chief Knight already knows your identity, it’s best not to expose yourself as a Holy Knight as much as possible.”
“Parul is right. I’ll be more careful from now on. Fighting with this sword can indeed conceal my identity,” Older Brother Jayad agreed immediately, holding the greatsword and getting familiar with its feel.
“Next, these boots, Hermes’ Boots. The wearer can move at incredibly high speeds and walk tirelessly. However, my main purpose in buying them was to help you find new gods to gain their favor, Older Brother Jayad.”
“If possible, I really don’t want to gain a god’s favor,” Older Brother Jayad said helplessly. This was also the sentiment of many. In the eyes of ordinary believers, divine favor represented luck and great power, a goal for many newbie believers.
But those who understood knew that gaining a god’s favor was a dangerous thing. There was an old saying in the East: “To accompany a ruler is like accompanying a tiger.” Being watched by a god was more dangerous than a tiger. A slight carelessness could lead to a complete loss of reason.
Older Brother Jayad put on the running shoes and, with lightning speed, suddenly accelerated and ran several laps around the room at high speed. I could only see afterimages of him.
Almost instantly, Older Brother Jayad had run countless laps around the living room and even went up and down the stairwell without knocking anything over. It was amazing, especially since others who tried them couldn’t adapt to this speed.
“It’s alright. I felt the acceleration, but I didn’t feel the Divine Power or favor of that Hermes,” Older Brother Jayad said.
That’s strange. I thought Hermes, the god of thieves among believers, would have good compatibility with Older Brother Jayad. But this time, there was no reaction at all. Could it be that the residual divine power was insufficient?
