Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 835: A Duel
This Tidal Deep One was undoubtedly a challenge for the Abyss Players.
Two mushroom clouds rose from the distant sea, and terrifying shockwaves swept outwards. They looked around; the military’s defending line along the coast was already precariously close to collapsing under the relentless onslaught of the Old Ones’ Retainers. They not only had to repel the Old Ones’ Retainers but also be on guard against their teammates who might descend into madness at any moment.
More and more Tidal Deep Ones began to appear along the coast. These monstrous beings could only be dealt with by Abyss Players, as no reinforcements were available. Every individual’s mission was arduous.
One player retracted his gaze while simultaneously severing a tentacle lashing out from a Tidal Deep One.
“No one can help us now. We must stop this Tidal Deep One… Don’t hold back anymore, brothers, go all out!”
He roared, and a chilling killing intent flashed in the Abyss Players’ eyes. Gripping their spinal swords, they stomped forward and charged at the Tidal Deep One.
The player with the ID “Zai Xia Mohan” (在下莫寒) flapped his wings and flew above the Tidal Deep One. Spreading his arms, his flesh and blood writhed, his gaze locked onto the Tidal Deep One, and Abyssal Dem surged forth.
“Vine of Demonic Death Field!!”
Countless flesh vines covered in barbs erupted from the player, instantly creating numerous bloody holes on the Tidal Deep One. Simultaneously, these flesh vines intertwined, binding the Tidal Deep One in place.
“Quick! I can’t come into contact with Them for too long, or I’ll be contaminated!”
Without him needing to say more, the other Abyss Players had already rushed forward. Several of them attacked simultaneously, and the blood-red energy from their spinal swords left more and more wounds on the Tidal Deep One. In a short while, more than half of its suction cup tentacles were severed, leaving only a tumor-like body writhing and howling on the ground.
As a high-level Old Ones’ Retainer, the Tidal Deep One possessed considerable intelligence. Sensing the killing intent of these humans, it immediately began to burrow into the ground to escape. However, under Zai Xia Mohan’s restraint, its attempts to flee appeared feeble.
“Hurry… hurry up!”
Zai Xia Mohan gritted his teeth, the contaminated vines on his body breaking one by one. This feeling was like having his limbs chopped off, causing extreme pain.
The other Abyss Players were also growing anxious.
However, the Tidal Deep One was constantly recovering. More Deep Ones continuously rushed into its mouth to replenish its energy, making it impossible to kill the monster for a long time.
The player restraining the Tidal Deep One in the air began to spit blood.
Just then, a grand oppressive aura descended upon the area.
The surroundings seemed to fall into a vacuum, and all sounds disappeared for an instant.
Everyone looked up, only to see a crimson phantom suspended in the air. Countless streams of Abyssal Dem swirled around the phantom like ribbons. He was like a giant radiation source, and wherever he passed, the spirits of all Corrupted Player players were invigorated.
Qi Wub scanned the entire coastline. The Dem surrounding him gradually transformed into crimson-flaming swords that floated behind him.
The Abyssal Dem surged like a volcano on the verge of eruption. In an instant, the entire sky was filled with crimson swords, densely packed together like a dark cloud, eclipsing even the sunlight.
Qi Wub slowly raised the sword in his hand and pointed it towards the coastline.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—”
Amidst the fluctuations of Abyssal Dem, the Demon Swords rained down.
They rolled like dragons, tearing through the air with sharp screeches.
Each Demon Sword that hit the ground exploded like a bomb. Those Tidal Deep Ones, which were so troublesome for the Corrupted Player players, instantly disintegrated upon being struck by a single sword.
Then, Qi Wub’s figure split into several parts.
In an instant, he flickered behind those Tidal Deep Ones still fighting with the players.
These doppelgangers merely swung their swords forward.
“Crack—”
Space shattered.
A void storm surged out from the裂开 black hole.
It tore into the Tidal Deep Ones like a meat grinder, devouring them completely.
“It’s the Leader!”
“The Leader actually came!”
“I thought the Leader was in Beijing, how did he get here from so far away?”
Qi Wub’s single move almost annihilated all the Deep Ones along the coastline, greatly boosting the morale of the Corrupted Player players and the military.
“That’s the Purifier Leader, Qi Wub!”
At the Qingbin City command center, the commander stared at the phantom in the sky above the coastline, marveling silently. The others around him were also dumbfounded.
One sword strike, followed by ten thousand swords.
Such power was no wonder the Federation President had requested cooperation between the military and the Purifiers. The might of this single strike alone was comparable to a precisely targeted large-scale nuclear weapon, and it was clear that this Purifier Leader still had more power to spare.
The sea surface was now dyed blood-red.
The corpses of the Old Ones’ Retainers floated densely on the sea.
All eyes on the battlefield converged here.
Under the magnified view of the drone’s aerial photography, Qi Wub’s body, covered in wounds and stitched scars, was revealed to everyone. From head to toe, the dense stitching lines resembled countless centipedes crawling on his body.
It was hard to imagine how far he had come.
How ruthless had this man been to himself to reach this point?
Screens across all squares worldwide were broadcasting this scene. Under everyone’s gaze, Qi Wub, sword in hand, walked towards a phantom that held a grand city in the sea.
With each step he took,
the void shattered.
When he reached the sea surface, he turned and swung his sword.
“Hiss—”
The crimson sword light swept across the land.
Everyone felt a stinging sensation in their eyes. When they opened them again, they saw that a boundary line composed of sword marks had been drawn along the coastline.
From this sword mark, about a hundred meters wide and extending to an unknown distance, a torrent of infinitely sharp Abyssal Dem erupted. Any Old Ones’ Retainer that approached was instantly annihilated into dust, forming a sword-scar barrier along the coastline.
Outside the sword scar was the blood-dyed sea.
Inside the sword scar was the land of China.
“This path is impassable.”
Qi Wub looked coldly at Cthulhu, his tone faint.
Cthulhu’s body, blown apart by the nuclear bomb, was writhing with countless tentacles and was still healing.
He was unfazed by such minor injuries, merely observing Qi Wub with curiosity.
“You are someone from outside the dream.”
Qi Wub shook his head and pointed his sword finger at Cthulhu:
“I am the one who will kill you.”
“You cannot kill me.”
“Then you are welcome to try!”
Cthulhu stared grimly at Qi Wub without speaking, because an inexplicable world power had locked onto him. This was the final struggle of a world, a restraint that even Cthulhu could not break free from.
As a price, the human before him would be transported with Cthulhu into a subspace drifting outside Blue Star. This was a duel, and the victor would be able to descend upon Blue Star once more.
The world power began to operate.
Qi Wub turned back for one last look at the coastline.
He opened his mouth.
People could not hear his voice.
They could only see his moving lips and the faint smile at the end.
Then, the black star devoured the sun, and the entire world plunged into darkness. When it lit up again, Qi Wub and Cthulhu had vanished without a trace.
Everyone stared blankly at the sky.
In the Qingbin command room,
a girl timidly asked:
“What did the Purifier Leader… just say?”
The commander silently looked at the Old Ones’ Retainers blocked outside by the sword scar, his eyes lowered:
“He said… ‘Please help me guard this world.'”
