Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 851: Mission Time
Chapter 851: Mission Time (3)
With the plan to use nuclear weapons confirmed, the entire Huaxia military region became active like a startup machine. Soon, the missile silos had locked onto R’lyeh City, and the nuclear missiles were ready for launch. These missiles were high-yield, far more powerful than those dropped by aircraft.
As the countdown proceeded with “3”, “2”, “1”, two nuclear bombs were propelled into the sky by rocket boosters. They resembled two large fireworks, or two lamps, ascending higher and higher into the air. Upon reaching their apex, they arced in a parabola and plunged towards the massive city on the sea.
R’lyeh City sat there, unmoved.
The Old Ones’ Retainers paid no attention to the two points of light falling from the sky.
The whistling of the rockets caused the glass on the Great Wall to creak ominously.
At this moment, whether it was the soldiers on the city wall unleashing firepower on the Old Ones’ Retainers, or the Corrupted Players and Winter City Players engaged in close-quarters combat, all looked up at the sky. They watched the two points of light, representing humanity’s ultimate military might, descend towards R’lyeh City like shooting stars.
Finally, the two points of light disappeared.
But immediately after, two dazzling clusters of light erupted, like blooming flower buds.
The surrounding temperature began to rise sharply.
Even the Players felt a hint of intense heat.
Just a few seconds later, the distant light clusters grew, illuminating the entire sky and causing eye strain. It was only then that the roar, like countless thunderclaps converging, could finally be heard.
Simultaneously, the dazzling spheres of light began to contract inwards, gradually forming a funnel shape. Their color slowly turned red, until the entire structure, from the edges to the core, became orange-red. At this point, everyone finally saw the iconic mushroom cloud.
The gale finally arrived, accompanied by waves hundreds of feet high.
The ocean churned violently, as if two bricks had been dropped into a fish tank. The endless Old Ones’ Retainers were scalded in the scorching seawater, becoming like cooked meat. Those Old Ones’ Retainers poised to come ashore were faster pushed onto the coast.
“The tsunami is coming!”
Scheming Frog’s voice echoed through all the Players’ communicators.
“The first wave is expected to reach the East Sea Great Wall in 8 seconds!”
“Received!”
Gou Fugui shot out from his bunker, ascending into the sky.
His Eye of Magic allowed him to clearly see the undulating sea surface and the devastating super wave pushing forward. Facing this terrifying tide, he spread his arms. Behind him, 36 crimson spell array halos unfolded simultaneously, overlapping each other. This meant Gou Fugui had stacked the same spell model 36 times.
“As I seek, grant me the fervent protection of fire! Fierce and violent flames, transform into an impenetrable wall, and burn away all that lies before me!”
As the incantation was chanted, the 36 spell array halos ignited with flames. Fire Elements condensed around Gou Fugui, making him appear almost like a hovering sun.
When all 36 spell arrays were fully lit, they converged in front of Gou Fugui at the same time.
He swung his staff forward, and a hundred-meter-high wall of flames instantly formed. It stretched endlessly left and right. As Gou Fugui pushed his hands forward, it charged towards the towering tsunami, incinerating all the Old Ones’ Retainers in the sea along the way.
After completing this feat, Gou Fugui, his face pale, stumbled back to the ground fortress.
“Brother Frog, I did my best, but the range of tsunami influence that the wall of flames can negate is limited. The other city walls will have to rely on other Players.”
In the east, a streak of cyan sword light pierced the sky, spanning several miles as it slashed towards the tsunami. Nobody Does Human Things (M) gracefully sheathed his sword. He had been nurturing this move, the “Furious Gale Silent Slash,” for a long time. With this strike, he felt he had reached the pinnacle of his life, though his legs felt a bit weak.
On the southern city wall, Aryk stood before the tsunami, raising his holy shield.
The moment the tsunami and the Old Ones’ Retainers reached him, he raised his holy shield and let out a furious roar. A golden light shot up into the sky. On both sides of him, golden shield-wielding phantom images appeared, forming a golden human wall bastion that completely blocked the raging sea currents.
In the north, thousands of Mage Players hovered above the tsunami. They stood in a circle, unleashing an ice storm to freeze large swathes of the sea surface, halting the tsunami’s advance.
On the Zhuhai District city wall, a Knight, with a sword, cleaved the tsunami in two.
The subsequent effects of the nuclear bombs were quickly suppressed.
Everything was under the control of Blue Star humanity.
But had these two nuclear bombs truly been effective?
Everyone focused their gaze on the horizon.
The nuclear explosion’s haze permeated the area, like a bag of gray flour that had burst, obscuring everything in a misty haze.
“Bzzzzz—”
A muffled groan emanated from the mist. It sounded like a grand horn being blown, but grander still, as if from the depths of space. It resonated through everyone’s souls. The horn blasts continued for tens of seconds, their echoes still reverberating, silencing everyone.
Silence descended, broken only by the roar of the waves.
Scheming Frog and the surrounding commanders stared intently at the screen, at the deepest part of the mist. On the East Sea Great Wall, soldiers, Winter City Players, and Corrupted Players all did the same.
Soon, noisy splashing sounds came from the mist.
People stared blankly at the shore.
Then, a colossal figure burst forth from the mist – a giant octopus monster, the size of a ten-story building. It floated in the air, its pair of eerie green eyes glaring at the East Sea Great Wall with madness and fury. Its tentacles were tangled and numerous, covered in wriggling suckers and mouths. Its head resembled an inverted flying saucer, with a gaping maw at its center, emitting a low hiss similar to the horn. It had fleshy wings on either side of its forehead, though they seemed more for balance than flight.
Such giant monsters were not alone.
They appeared side-by-side on the sea, followed by an endless host of Deep Ones. They were wrapped in chains, seemingly dragging something. Soon, that something emerged from the mist – countless colossal cyan stones inscribed with bizarre runes. These stones pieced together an island, dotted with structures and fortifications whose architectural design was completely abnormal.
They defied all laws of mathematics and geometry.
It was a spatial structure and dimensional scale never before seen. A single glance induced severe disgust and nausea.
These fortifications were built from massive, green stones too large to have originated from Earth. Within the fortresses were dizzyingly tall stone carvings, grand statues, and ornate reliefs.
The entire city exuded an intense aura of impurity, as if it harbored all the evil in the world.
R’lyeh City, being pulled by a group of Cthulhu’s high-ranking retainers, the Star-Spawn, was crashing towards the East Sea Great Wall!
