Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 66: Please Defend Most City
If the slaughter within the castle was bloody and brutal, then the fight within Most City’s inner walls was cruel.
Gabriel couldn’t stop all the demons, nor would the demons stand still for her to kill. The outside world was beautiful, and they were invaders, not duelists.
Thus, a large number of demons fled from the castle, only to encounter the second line of defense formed by the King of Winter and Most City’s guards.
Evacuation orders had been given, and reinforcements had been sent to Winter City. Xi Wei’s only task was to hold this position, buying time for the ordinary townsfolk.
Once the fighting began, these guards and knights of Most City seemed to have lost their fear.
“His Majesty is right. The longer we hold here, the safer our families will be.”
A guard pulled his long sword from the corpse of a minor devil, his gaze filled with reverence for the blood-soaked figure fighting at the very front.
They were all facing mere fodder.
The truly formidable demons had been intercepted by the King of Winter, who fought alone with his sword.
Never before had a king put himself on the most dangerous front line for the safety of a single city.
Now, the King of Winter had done just that.
As guards of this city, where else could they possibly retreat to?
There was only a fight to the death!
“For Most City, for the King of Winter, kill!”
Despite the high morale of the guards and knights, it couldn’t bridge the gap between them and the demons.
Casualties were constantly occurring.
The defending line was on the verge of being broken.
“Young brother Rade, I’ll go first. Please take care of my son.”
An old knight with a grizzled beard said, placing his knight’s badge into the hands of a young city guard before resolutely filling the gap in the human wall.
There, a middle-aged knight had just had his head crushed by a demon.
“Demons, return to the Abyss!” City Guard Boris was dead.
He had his heart ripped out by the claws of a Soul Reaver, but at his last moment, he plunged his long sword into the demon’s eye.
“I hope future generations will still have the chance to taste Aunt Kalena’s pancakes. They’re really delicious.”
Great Knight Andre was dead.
He loved Aunt Kalena’s pancakes and bought one every morning.
“Everyone, protect Most City.”
City Guard Maxim was dead. He had embraced a Quasar Demon and rolled into the castle’s moat.
“Son, watch closely. Your dad’s sword strike will be magnificent!”
Nagl, who had just broken through to Great Knight, was dead.
Brilliant sword light shot into the sky, cleaving a flying Flom into two, its bloody rain scattering across the ground.
His son, Nelson.
He had died in the Emerald Frontier two years ago.
His greatest wish was to see his father break through to become a Great Knight and perform a Qi Slash that truly rivaled the daylight for him.
“We’ll have a drink together later.” Great Knight Oleg was dead.
“Please… Your Majesty, def-defend… Most City…”
Captain Nikita was dead.
Blocking the path of the demons.
Finally, only the King of Winter remained.
In front of him, demon corpses were piled like mountains.
Behind him, the heroic spirits of the soldiers roared amidst the shattered remains and rivers of blood.
“Human, you are the only one left, keke…”
The thirteen-meter-tall Bagura Demon, like a small mountain, stood there, its shadow cast by the sunlight completely engulfing Xi Wei in darkness.
“Your soldiers, weak and helpless!”
“Your city, vulnerable!”
“This place will ultimately be ruled by demons! A paradise for the Abyss!”
Xi Wei stood in the shadow, silent. He lowered his head, his Conqueror’s Longsword clutched tightly in his hand.
When he raised his hand again, a golden, roaring lion sword energy was unleashed. With a deafening boom, the upper body of the Bagura Demon before him was blasted into a bloody mist.
Only two thick leg stumps remained, falling powerlessly to the ground.
The demons, startled by the ferocity of this human, took a step back, but then roared with even greater hatred.
They were demons, fearless of everything, and they destroyed everything.
“Tear the human apart and advance!”
“Roar—!”
Xi Wei stood at the entrance of Most City’s inner walls, amidst the ruins. His long sword was planted before him, the phantom images of dragon and lion roaring behind him. The majesty in his eyes was like an abyss, like hell.
His voice was low, solemn, and solemn:
“Rest in peace, everyone. Your families and Most City, I, your king, will defend them for you!”
…
Most Fort.
The sub-bodies spawned by Count Mandev were wandering everywhere. The castle was now filled with demons, leaving no flesh and blood for him to possess.
However, he dared not leave the castle.
The King of Winter was currently guarding the exterior, and not a single demon of even moderate strength could escape his long sword.
A sub-body could only survive outside for an hour. Count Mandev watched as the minutes ticked by, his sub-body growing weaker and weaker, filling him with anguish.
Suddenly, he spotted a human, mixed within a group of demons, heading towards the castle’s side gate.
Mandev didn’t even bother to think why this human was getting along with demons. At this point, his barely rationalized mind only craved to devour more flesh and blood.
So, he howled and lunged forward, and with a *slap*, he landed on the human.
Mandev opened his blood gaping maw and bit down, the sensation akin to biting into solid iron, nearly chipping his teeth.
“Oh? What interesting new toy have I found?”
Qi Wub extended his demon-modified right hand, pinched the sub-body of Count Mandev, brought it close to observe it carefully.
[Abominable Demon Sub-body]
“Sub-body?”
Qi Wub showed an interested expression, rubbed his chin, and murmured:
“Let me guess? Where there is a sub-body, there must be a main body. Your sub-body is running around because the main body is dead…”
“You want to bite me right away… hmm, should it rely on eating meat to replenish energy? To become a new main body again?”
“Splitting, devouring, regenerating. How interesting…”
“Keke…”
Count Mandev, choked by Qi Wub’s grip, couldn’t utter a sound, but the fear and despair could still be seen in his crimson pupils.
The human before him was not human at all. Through the ripped clothing, one could see finely distributed demonic scales beneath.
Qi Wub let out a cold laugh, took out a glass jar as thick as a water bucket from his backpack, directly threw Count Mandev’s sub-body into it, then slammed the lid shut with a *bang* and put it back into his backpack.
“A good test subject. I didn’t expect to find an unexpected surprise on this trip. Heh heh…”
After speaking, Qi Wub glanced out the window.
That majestic king was still guarding there, like a formidable iron wall. The demon corpses were almost piled up to the castle gate.
“Wait a little longer. Wait until he’s exhausted.”
Qi Wub smiled slightly and said faintly.
