Chapter: Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue), “Mages” and “Assassins”
It was another difficult choice.
Xi Wei glanced at the information about these troop types. He was more interested in the Star Magus, the Elf Sword Dancer, and the Rune Priest.
The Undead Lich was also quite good; this kind of undead creature that could revive as long as its phylactery wasn’t destroyed was incredibly disgusting. However, he had to consider his alignment. Last time, he said the Terrifying Phantom Riders were his subordinates and willing to continue following him after death. He couldn’t use the same excuse again, claiming these mages were also his subordinates and willing to follow him after death. Who would believe that? Did he think the Church of Light was foolish? Besides, liches and mages were entirely different matters.
The Rune Priest was ultimately eliminated by Xi Wei. They were a group of spell units that used rune power, and they could also enchant equipment. They were somewhat like a combination of a mage, a blacksmith, and an alchemist. With a Grandmaster already in Winter City, and their terrifying production efficiency, Rune Priests weren’t an immediate necessity.
This left only the Star Magus and the Elf Sword Dancer. One was a completely magic-based unit, and the other was a melee unit that was half magic, half assassin. Xi Wei fell into deep thought as he looked at the descriptions of the two troop types.
**[Star Magus]**
Mysterious mages, followers of the stars. They do not worship the God of Magic but revere the Star Trails in the boundless starry sky. The first Star Magus, Heracles, comprehended the infinitely regenerating Star Energy from the rotating stars and spread this cultivation method. Wherever there are stars, all Star Magus can cultivate freely. Like other mages, they must adhere to the rules of spell incantations. However, the difference is that they can store spells in the Star Trails within their bodies in advance. The stronger the Star Mage, the more Star Trails they possess. They can store more powerful spells and cast them instantaneously during combat.
**[Elf Sword Dancer]**
Elites among the forest warriors. Elves who dedicate their lives to elven martial arts are known as Battle Dancers. They rely primarily on evasion and swift movements rather than resilience or brute force. Sword Dancers do not wear any armor but often tattoo magical defenses onto their skin. Elves have various types of sword dances, and mastering just one is already a remarkable achievement. They move with agility, like feathers in the wind. In combat, Sword Dance Masters’ sword skills are swift and precise, like leaves in a hurricane. Only a few can survive their flash of silver weaponry.
Xi Wei wanted both of these troop types. Unfortunately, he could only choose one. The former was the troop type Winter City lacked most, and their strength could connect with Cain Continent, so there was no worry about level progression being hindered by power conflicts. The latter was an assassin unit, which was very important for Xi Wei to quickly stabilize the Winter Kingdom and expand into other countries. Furthermore, if he had Elf Sword Dancers, Alence and the others’ operations would become much more convenient.
How should he choose? Xi Wei was greatly conflicted. He paced back and forth, his gaze landing on Connie, who stood beside him with a puffy face.
**[Daddy and Darling haven’t paid attention to Connie for three minutes! Connie is very angry!]**
Connie stood with her hands on her hips, pouting, sulking. Then, she suddenly saw Xi Wei’s gaze linger on her. Did her Darling finally realize her merits and want to get intimate with her? Connie’s heart was filled with anticipation.
“Connie, if we could add one troop type to Winter City right now, one being a powerful mage, and the other a powerful assassin, which one would be better?”
Huh? That’s it? Was it such a serious question? Connie instantly deflated. However, her eyes then lit up, and she discovered a hidden meaning within. Mages were generally delicate and physically weak, with little close-combat ability. They had poor physique and were usually passive in any situation. But assassins were different. They were warriors. And they were elusive. They could appear behind you inadvertently, cover your mouth and nose, drag you into a dark room, and then, hehehe… Furthermore, Darling had deliberately added the adjective “powerful” before mage and assassin. This was clearly hinting that she was powerful, as she had already witnessed it. Therefore, it was evident that Darling’s true intention was to give her a choice: to be a fragile “mage” or an elusive “assassin.”
Connie looked at Xi Wei, who was almost five or six heads taller than her. Thinking of his imposing physique, she couldn’t help but blush, unconsciously squeezing her legs together. Although being an assassin was very stimulating, it was clearly impossible. After all, her Darling was so big, and she was so tiny. How could she cover his mouth and nose and drag him away? Moreover, she preferred the feeling of being held in Darling’s arms, his strong shoulder embracing her like a swaddling cloth. With this thought, Connie shyly looked up at Xi Wei, knowing it was time to make her choice. If she chose to be a “mage,” then in the future, she might be held, pressed, tied, bound, and… It seemed like it might be quite nice. Indeed, Darling understood better than her, who had only recently received her inheritance and knowledge as a Black Dragon, and was much more experienced!
“Um, Darling, Connie thinks, thinks that being a mage is better.” “Because if, if it were a mage, in that kind of situation, water-attribute magic might become very powerful, perhaps…” “Perhaps it could even flood the castle… Boo hoo~”
After speaking, Connie’s legs went soft, and she sat on the ground like a duck, covering her scalding pretty face with her two soft hands. But she could still peek through the gaps between her fingers, her big sapphire blue eyes looking out. Xi Wei was already zapped by Connie’s magical train of thought. He suddenly felt that being able to fully sense Connie’s inner thoughts through the contract wasn’t such a pleasant thing. What kind of eccentric creature was this! They say dragons, regardless of good or evil, are not serious, but he never expected it to reach this extent. He was asking a normal question, wasn’t he? How did it get so twisted?!
“Connie.”
“Mhm?”
“Do you see that wall over there?”
“I see it, what’s wrong, Daddy~”
Connie looked confused, but immediately blushed again, biting her red lips and stammering, “Are, are you going to pin Connie against the wall over there?”
“No.”
Xi Wei was about to explode. He almost roared, “I’m telling you to go over there and face the wall! Come back when you’ve washed those lewd thoughts out of your head!”
“Don’t want to, Daddy~ Master? Darling!”
No matter how Connie pleaded, under the influence of the contract, she could only obey Xi Wei’s command. In the end, she could only obediently stand in the corner and reflect on her actions.
