Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 34: I, Lord of Eagle Territory, Act with Integrity My Entire Life
“Source of the Wilds? What is that?”
Xi Wei asked the system doubtfully. He felt a seven-colored ball of light in his body, containing a primitive and wild aura.
“Ding! The World’s Unique Artifact, Source of the Wilds, is the origin of the Breath of the Wilds and contains all types of Breath of the Wilds.”
Truly, “Hearing a wise man speak is like hearing someone speak.”
Xi Wei was speechless. Wasn’t this saying nothing at all?
Forget it. He wouldn’t argue with the stupid system.
Xi Wei patiently continued to ask, “So, what is the Breath of the Wilds?”
“Ding! Artifact, Breath of the Wilds, is the rule of natural power. Pure natural creatures can comprehend and awaken the power in their bloodline from the Breath of the Wilds according to their innate differences.”
“Can I comprehend power from it? I think I’m quite pure.”
Xi Wei put on a serious and solemn expression.
“Ding! No!”
( ̄ー ̄)#
“So what’s the use of this thing to me? Am I just going to become a humanoid WiFi spreading the Breath of the Wilds?”
Xi Wei complained. He was feeling extremely depressed. He had drawn a critical hit reward, only to get something useless.
“System, which ones are pure natural creatures?”
“Ding! Difficult to describe. For example, the horse beneath the host is.”
Xi Wei lowered his head and looked at his good old Dragon Blood Horse. He noticed that the Dragon Blood Horse was also tilting its head, looking at him. Its big, black, shiny eyes actually held a trace of joy and infatuation.
“!? ”
“My horse, you’re acting strange!”
He liked fox-eared girls, that was true, but horses were a definite no. And it was a stallion, too.
Pfft, a mare wouldn’t work either.
“It seems to be caused by the Source of the Wilds. According to the system, I’ve become the opportunity for natural creatures to evolve. That’s why my horse is closer to me and making that expression.”
“Also, the range of perception for the Source of the Wilds should be limited. The other horses around have no reaction at all. This is a good thing; I don’t want birds perching on me all day.”
Xi Wei seemed to understand something and began to think about how to better utilize the Source of the Wilds to contribute to his territory.
Should he set up a super breeding farm? Raise chickens as big as cows, fish that could live out of water, or pigs that gave birth to twenty piglets at a time?
He was a Lord, not a farmer. But if he broadened his horizons, perhaps he could use the Source of the Wilds to cultivate and domesticate magical beasts, and breed stronger warhorses.
But it was clear it wouldn’t be that simple.
The system had mentioned that whether natural creatures could comprehend the power of their bloodline from the Breath of the Wilds depended on their talent.
Some creatures might awaken it slowly upon their first contact, while others might never figure it out in their lifetime, only instinctively being drawn to the Breath of the Wilds.
Take his Dragon Blood Warhorse, for example. It didn’t show any special reactions currently, other than its somewhat ambiguous gaze towards him.
Xi Wei couldn’t figure it out for now. He would need to return to Eagle Territory to personally experiment.
Since they didn’t deliberately speed up their return journey, Xi Wei and his army only arrived at Dawn Town the next morning.
He planned to stay in Dawn Town for a moment, partly to let the soldiers recover their spirits, and partly to transfer the ownership of Dawn Town to the Saintess.
The Players were very insistent on this point, requiring a contract to be signed. Even though Xi Wei could renege on the contract at any time.
But soon, Xi Wei discovered that the Players and the Demi-humans were not as foolish as he thought.
…
In the Town Mayor’s Residence of Dawn Town, the Player representatives stood solemnly on either side of the room.
In the center of the conference hall was a square table, where Xi Wei and the Demi-human Saintess Ruo Yi sat opposite each other.
Ruo Yi was still wearing her patched but very clean ceremonial dress, with fox ears and a fox tail. Her snow-white long hair cascaded down her back, making her look beautiful and holy.
It was just that her gaze seemed a bit dazed.
Xi Wei couldn’t help but glance at the dainty fox-eared girl a couple more times, wondering if he should offer to fund a new ceremonial dress for her.
“Lord of Eagle Territory, if you have no objections, let’s begin drafting the contract for the transfer of Dawn Town now.”
The Avatar solemnly took out a sheepskin scroll and placed it in front of Xi Wei.
Xi Wei looked at the sheepskin scroll on the table with surprise. He discovered that it had actually received the blessing of the God of Order.
Good heavens, where did these Players get this? Did his Eagle Territory have a shrine that worshipped that old hag, the God of Order?
However, Xi Wei didn’t say much. He took out a quill pen and scribbled away. He quickly drafted the contract, signed his name below it, and pushed it towards the Player Avatar.
The Avatar and the Players were confused by the contract. They couldn’t understand the language of the Cain Continent and could only seek help from Saintess Ruo Yi.
Ruo Yi had been somewhat absent-minded since the Lord of Eagle Territory sat in front of her.
It wasn’t because of what happened earlier, but because she constantly felt a comfortable aura emanating from the Lord of Eagle Territory, making her want to approach him, to snuggle up, to lick and rub against him.
And as the Lord of Eagle Territory stayed longer in front of her, this feeling grew stronger, gradually reaching the point where it began to affect her consciousness.
To the point that when the Player approached her and stood in front of her for a long time, waving his hand in front of her eyes, she didn’t react.
“Saintess Sister? Your Highness Saintess? Oh no, has the Saintess fallen for the Lord of Eagle Territory? That look in her eyes is wrong!”
“Ah…?”
The Avatar’s muttering pulled Ruo Yi, who had been staring blankly at the Lord of Eagle Territory, back to reality.
She looked at the Player standing in front of her with a confused expression, then at the Lord of Eagle Territory with a playful gaze. Her face instantly turned red, and she hurriedly lowered her head and said flusteredly:
“Wh-what is it?”
“Uh…” The Avatar was a bit speechless. So the Saintess had been daydreaming the whole time and hadn’t heard anything.
The Saintess and the protagonist, Ye Hao, were both unreliable. This generation of NPCs was getting harder and harder to manage…
The Avatar sighed inwardly and then patiently repeated: “It’s like this, the Lord of Eagle Territory has already drafted the contract. Please take a look, and if there are no objections, we’ll sign it. If there are any problems, please point them out so we can discuss them.”
Ruo Yi looked at the scroll and read: “…Hereby transferring all ownership of Dawn Town from the former Town Mayor Megil to the Demi-human Saintess Ruo Yi, including the right to govern, … Effective immediately, Demi-human Saintess Ruo Yi shall become the Town Mayor of Dawn Town for an indefinite period. The Lord of Eagle Territory shall guarantee the validity of the contract and shall not terminate it…”
She read this sentence several times. She felt something was wrong, but it also seemed like there was nothing wrong.
She was confused and looked up at the Avatar for help.
The Avatar was stunned and thought, “Why are you looking at me? I don’t understand the rules of your Cain Continent either!”
There was no other way. Since Saintess Ruo Yi was their favorite NPC,
Even if she was a little silly or absent-minded, the Players accepted it.
So the Avatar could only brace himself and ask the Lord of Eagle Territory, “My Lord of Eagle Territory, as an Earl, you wouldn’t be playing word games in the contract, would you?”
Xi Wei almost burst out laughing like a pig upon hearing this, but he smiled sincerely and said, “I am a very meticulous and honest person in my actions. The contract is very clear. The ownership of Dawn Town is transferred from the former Mayor Megil to Ruo Yi, with a clear beginning and end, so that any problems in the future can be traced back to their source.”
The Avatar nodded and exchanged glances with the other Players. They couldn’t make heads or tails of it and ultimately left the decision to Saintess Ruo Yi.
Ruo Yi’s gaze shuttled back and forth between the contract and Xi Wei’s face for a long time. Then, she bit her lip and, forcing herself, signed her name on the sheepskin scroll.
After Ruo Yi signed her name, the sheepskin scroll vibrated and emitted a bright white light, finally shattering into specks of light and disappearing.
But in the depths of their hearts, everyone felt a supreme will sweep through the place.
They knew the contract had taken effect and had received the acknowledgment and protection of the Goddess of Order. Any violators would suffer divine punishment.
Xi Wei’s face broke into a sunny smile. He leaned back comfortably in his chair, clapped his hands, and congratulated,
“Congratulations, Demi-human Saintess. From now on, you are the Town Mayor of Dawn Town.”
Demi-human Saintess Ruo Yi was also overjoyed. This signified that the Demi-humans finally had a home in the truest sense of the word and would no longer have to wander aimlessly.
Furthermore, with the protection of the Goddess of Order, she didn’t have to worry about the Lord of Eagle Territory going back on his word.
However, at this very moment, the devilish voice of the Lord of Eagle Territory echoed softly:
“Now, let’s talk about the tax issue for Dawn Town, an affiliated town of Eagle Territory.”
