Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 243: Destined Battle (5)
The Priest was instantly killed. Qi Wub’s scarlet eyes immediately locked onto the Star Magus, who was half-suspended in the sky.
Upon arriving on the battlefield, he had already noticed that the Star Magus, a profession he had never seen before, was the one with the highest level and greatest threat.
He had only killed the Priest first because the Priest was the closest. As the leader of the Corrupted Player faction, it would have been impolite not to help out someone passing by.
The Star Magus, hovering in the sky in the distance, had already assumed a defensive stance. Their gazes met in the air, and he could already feel the ill will from Qi Wub, the leader of the Corrupted Players.
Qi Wub’s lips curled slightly. He raised his demonic claw and clenched it in the air, purple abyssal energy surging.
*Crack—*
A blaring alarm went off in the Star Magus’s mind, and he darted away as a beam of starlight.
In the position where he had been, a demonic claw suddenly emerged from the shattered space and grabbed fiercely. The terrifying crushing force emitted a muffled *bang*.
“Spatial ability?”
The Star Magus was still shaken. Spatial abilities were the most troublesome magical abilities, unrivaled in their strangeness and offensive power among all elemental types.
*Crack—*
The space shattered again.
Another demonic claw, billowing with black smoke, lunged at the Star Magus. This time, the claw clenched and smashed down like a pitch-black giant hammer.
At the same time, Qi Wub flapped his fleshy wings and lunged towards the Star Magus.
Being repeatedly provoked by Qi Wub’s ranged attacks, the Star Magus’s temper flared.
He waved his hand in the direction where the demonic claw was descending. A silver spell array bloomed around him like a field of flowers.
*Neigh—*
A clear neighing sound echoed in the air.
A Pegasus Knight, composed of starlight, flew out from the magic array. Wielding a sword of starlight, he slashed down at the demonic claw.
*Hiss—*
The demonic claw was not particularly sturdy. It was severed by the starlight sword and fell to the ground, almost hitting a fleeing Corrupted Player. Finally, it dissipated into a wisp of black smoke and returned to Qi Wub.
After completing its strike, the Pegasus Knight seemed to have finished its mission and dissolved into a shower of starlight, gradually disappearing.
“Be careful!”
A shout of warning came from below from (Player Name) (M).
It turned out the leader of the Corrupted Players had already closed in, his demon sword slashing down like the God of Death swinging his scythe. Abyssal energy coiled around them, obscuring their vision, about to claim the Star Magus’s life.
*Clang—* The demon sword sliced through the air.
The Star Magus’s figure materialized again to his right. He even reached up to wipe a bead of cold sweat from his forehead.
The speed of this Corrupted Player leader was simply too fast.
It wasn’t that he didn’t deploy a magic shield to block.
Magi of his level could already predict whether an opponent’s attack could be withstood by a magic shield.
Therefore, magic shields could not be used casually, or it would be a suicidal act.
He touched his waist, and blood was already flowing out.
The abyssal energy was viscous around the wound, like a persistent leech.
A piercing pain shot from the wound straight to his brain, affecting his subsequent actions.
“You’re different from ordinary mages. You’re as slippery as an Elf Sword Dance Master.”
Qi Wub turned to face the Star Magus. A trace of blood still clung to the demon sword in his hand. If he had been even a little faster, he would have cleaved the Star Magus in two.
“You’re also different from those mindless demons from the Abyss. You actually know sword techniques. Don’t demons disdain learning human sword skills?”
The Star Magus’s feet trod on starlight, making him seem somewhat ethereal and unstable. While conversing with Qi Wub, his spell slots refreshed.
“I am a Purifier, not a demon.”
Qi Wub was unconcerned by the Star Magus’s subtle movements. In the face of absolute strength, any trick could be broken by brute force.
Moreover, he had no intention of prolonging the conversation.
His long sword drew a brutal arc through the air.
To prevent the Star Magus from dodging again, he channeled more demonic power. The surrounding space shattered inch by inch, and countless demonic claws stretched out from the dark void towards the Star Magus like falling dumplings.
But this time, he still failed to catch the Star Magus by the tail.
Because the Star Magus directly cast an enhanced Flame Burst at point-blank range and simultaneously cast a Fire Elemental shield on himself!
*Boom—*
A mushroom cloud exploded in the sky.
The shockwave from the Flame Burst destroyed all the surrounding demonic claws. The Star Magus himself, protected by the Fire Elemental shield, sustained no damage. He even used the explosion’s thrust to create distance from Qi Wub.
This exchange of spells made the eyes of (Player Name) (M) and the others watching from below shine with admiration.
While many battle mages could spar with powerful warriors, none could do it as effortlessly and with such flexible use of magic as the Star Magus.
“You are quite surprising.”
Qi Wub emerged from the explosion smoke, his wings beating.
His body was covered in burn marks from the flames. The most severe areas were even pierced by the explosion, revealing his organs with sparks still flickering within.
Yet, he acted as if nothing had happened. Even with only half his head remaining, the brain matter swaying like jelly with his movements, he showed no sign of awareness.
Even more terrifyingly.
By the time his demon sword slashed towards the Star Magus again, his injuries had completely healed, as if nothing had occurred.
“How about we make a deal!”
Qi Wub’s demon sword swept across the Star Magus’s face but was blocked by a shield wielded by a Pegasus Knight summoned by the Star Magus.
His tone was conversational.
But his actions were far from polite.
Taking advantage of the Star Magus’s casting recovery time, Qi Wub delivered a powerful kick to the Star Magus’s abdomen, sending him flying.
“I need your instant casting ability. I have never encountered such a unique mage as you. Come back with me and be my test subject, and I will let these pathetic beings go.”
“What do you say? Sacrifice the small to save the big.”
“It’s a great deal, isn’t it~”
As Qi Wub spoke, he stomped forcefully towards the spot where the Star Magus had fallen.
With a deafening *boom*, the entire ground trembled. The Star Magus stumbled out of the ruins and dust.
“You know nothing of the mysterious starry sky.”
A starlight flickered in the Star Magus’s eyes.
The words and actions of this Corrupted Player leader were a provocation to all Star Magi.
And now, it was finally his turn to retaliate.
From the beginning of the battle, he had been trying to connect with the star trails of the Cain Continent.
This would have been a simple matter on the prime material plane.
But now, in this Abyss, to connect with the star trails, he had to push through the layers of abyssal energy, traverse subspace, and search for that wisp of starlight. How difficult was that?
