Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
The warrior player was sent flying like a tattered sack, but only his upper half remained. His lower half was still stuck beside the Skeletal Rhinoceros, wobbling and then falling to the ground.
This axe strike was like the starting gun for an attack.
The rhinoceros-riding Skeletal Knight leaped into the player crowd.
“Boom!” The ground trembled.
Merely the landing of the Skeletal Rhinoceros crushed a large number of players who couldn’t dodge in time, followed by its colossal axe, which spun like a windmill.
These skeletal knights were like the most efficient reapers. Wherever they passed, players fell like wheat being harvested, one after another.
This was the first time the Novice Players had encountered such a difficult BOSS battle.
Many were at a loss, with nowhere to hide, forced to either attack passively or scramble around.
However, the veteran players remained calm, still launching their attacks fearlessly.
After all, they weren’t strangers to Champion Level existences.
These veteran players, who had been “harvested like wheat” by the King of Winter before, were accustomed to it. While the current Skeletal Knights were powerful, they were still no match for the Tyrannosaurus-like destructive power of the King of Winter.
But courage was one thing, and dealing damage was another.
Even when they swung their swords and sabers at the joints of the Champion Level Skeletal Knights, the latter would merely glance at the players dismissively before cleaving an approaching player into a bloody, bony mess with an axe.
Blood splattered, and screams erupted.
However, the players weren’t in pain, but rather in shock.
The game on Cain Continent prided itself on realism, and there was no compromise in its visuals. Players could clearly see the scene of their teammates’ brains splattering after their heads were split open by the Skeletal Knights’ swords and battle axes.
“Ugh—”
Many Novice Players immediately dropped their swords and doubled over, retching.
“Does it have to be so realistic…”
They complained in the Team Channel:
“I used to think games that focused on realism were amazing, but now I feel Cain Continent is a bit too realistic. There’s no mosaic whatsoever…”
After several rounds of fighting,
the players, through countless deaths, had summed up one truth: they could currently only deal effective damage to the Great Knight Level Skeletal Knights.
Players like Nobody Does Human Things gathered their thoughts in the team channel and decided to first eliminate all the Great Knight Level Skeletal Knights around them before slowly chipping away at the HP of the Champion Level Skeletal Knights.
“Warrior players, intercept those Great Knight Skeletal Knights. Mages, focus fire with fire attribute magic!”
The Novice Players, who had been in a chaotic mess, quickly rallied after receiving clear commands. They began sniping the Great Knight Level Skeletal Knights according to the channel’s instructions.
Before, they simply didn’t know who to target.
After all, the entire battlefield was a sea of Undead with sickly green soul fires burning in their eyes.
Warrior players, activating their Tough Aura and holding their shields, charged to the feet of the Skeletal Knights, blocking their hooves. Typically, seven or eight warriors could hold down the legs of a Skeletal Knight.
A few more warriors were sent in front of the Skeletal Knights to attract their attention.
These Skeletal Knights were not intelligent.
Even if they couldn’t move, their attention remained focused on the players who were taunting them.
This created an opportunity for the Mages preparing their spells in the rear.
“Brothers, spread out!”
“Our Flame Burst and Chain Lightning are ready!”
From the rear, a Mage player shouted:
“Yeah, if you don’t move, you’ll get caught in the crossfire…”
“What kind of nonsense are you talking about!” the Warrior players blocking the hooves yelled at the Mages.
“We never intended to leave once we got our legs stuck here!”
“Stop being such wimps! Hurry up and shoot at your daddy!”
At this moment, the Mages didn’t care who was the “daddy” among warriors, mages, and priests.
All sorts of fire magic were hurled at the nearest Skeletal Knights.
The once arrogant Skeletal Knights’ HP began to plummet rapidly.
Soon, only a sliver of HP remained.
“Holy crap! It’s working!”
“Don’t stop, are you guys suffering from prostatitis? Shoot quickly!”
Upon hearing this, the Mages focused on shooting, and a few more fire magic spells exploded on the Skeletal Knights. This Skeletal Knight finally let out a mournful cry, turning into a pile of blackened bones and falling to the ground.
After successfully killing one Great Knight Level Skeletal Knight, the players’ morale reached its peak. They continued to apply the same tactics, focusing fire on and quickly eliminating the other dozens of Great Knight Level Skeletal Knights, one by one.
And at this moment,
the Champion Level Skeletal Knights, whom they had temporarily ignored, had ridden their Skeletal Rhinoceroses into the players’ rear lines and were approaching the Temporary Resurrection Crystal.
“It wants to smash our Resurrection Crystal!”
“Holy crap, the Undead are that cunning?”
“How much longer until the two-way spell array is built…”
Nobody Does Human Things and other player representatives had just finished focusing fire on the Great Knight Level Skeletal Knights when they saw messages constantly popping up in the team channel.
They looked to the rear and saw that the Champion Level Skeletal Knight was raising its colossal axe towards the Temporary Resurrection Crystal.
Concurrently, within the Deathly Shadow Cloud, Angus the Ghost Dragon, who shared vision with the Champion Level Skeletal Knight, wore a cruel smile.
“Smash this crystal, and let’s see how you resurrect… Keke…”
“Boom—”
The colossal axe slammed down with immense force.
The Temporary Resurrection Crystal sank violently into the ground, and a circular shockwave sent the surrounding players bleeding from all seven orifices, instantly perishing.
The Ghost Dragon Angus, within the Deathly Shadow Cloud, his expression changed, looking in disbelief at the purple crystal that had only developed a crack.
He hadn’t expected this thing to be so tough.
However, as long as it could be damaged, that was enough.
The Champion Level Skeletal Knight swung its colossal axe with all its might, and the Skeletal Rhinoceros beneath it also exerted its strength, charging forcefully at the purple crystal.
“Boom, boom, boom…” The ground shook.
After a few blows, the mysterious purple crystal began to emit cracking sounds.
“Crack—”
The Temporary Resurrection Crystal finally shattered.
“Kekekekeke…”
Angus let out a piercing, mad laugh from within the Deathly Shadow Cloud.
The entire sky trembled with this laughter, and the tide of Undead let out resounding roars in response.
In the rear of the battlefield, the soul fire in the eyes of the Champion Level Skeletal Knight blazed even brighter.
With a slight turn of its colossal axe,
it reaped a large swath of surrounding Human soldiers. Indeed, these strange Humans did not resurrect again.
The next step was the time for slaughter…
It was a feast belonging solely to the Undead Legion!!
It turned around and saw a Human who looked like a leader at a distance throw a purple crystal onto the ground. The purple crystal then gradually expanded until it reached its normal size.
Waves of white light flashed.
The Humans it had just killed emerged from the white light near the purple crystal.
Skeletal Knight: “…???”
