Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 312: I am an Envoy of the Holy See
The Skeletal Knight slowly stood up. Angus, through the pair of pale green Undead Ghost Fire in its eyes, cautiously watched the Champion Knight before him, clad in silver Dragon Crystal armor and a large red cloak.
“The power of Holy Light… who are you?”
“As you can see,” Xi Wei shrugged, his tone characteristically nonchalant yet laced with hidden danger, “I am an envoy of the Church of Light.”
“Envoy of the Holy See…” The Undead Ghost Fire in the Skeletal Knight’s eye sockets flared by three points. “Why aren’t your envoys staying at the Holy See? What are you doing in Karari City?”
Xi Wei, who had already planned to shift the blame, disdained to answer the Skeletal Knight’s question. Instead, he changed the subject and retorted, “Then why aren’t you Undead staying in the Undead Desert? What are you doing in Karari City?”
The Skeletal Knight fell silent. It simply readjusted a misaligned rib, gripped its great axe with both hands, and grayish-green Undead energy swirled around its body like smoke. At this moment, its agility and strength were both enhanced. It was a blessing from Angus.
The wind gradually died down, but the coldness of the surrounding air reached its extreme.
“The dead and the living have little common language,” the towering Skeletal Knight stated, its axe held steady as it slowly approached Xi Wei. Its originally bone-white great axe was now entwined with Undead energy, shimmering with a chilling, faint glow in the dim light.
“I think so too…” Xi Wei replied with a flippant, provocative tone. However, his hand gripping his long sword was as steady as a rock. He lowered his body slightly, focusing intently on the Skeletal Knight’s movements.
In the next moment, the Skeletal Knight’s movements accelerated sharply, leaving only a blurry afterimage in its place. The Undead energy-entwined great axe was raised high above its head, cleaving through the air and tearing through the wind with a piercing howl.
Xi Wei’s eyes flashed. He channeled Qi into his entire body and his long sword, took two steps forward, and slashed upwards to meet the incoming great axe. The great axe and long sword clashed, the sound of metal striking resonating in the ears of the surrounding Players. A barely visible shockwave rippled outward from where the weapons met.
Xi Wei’s strength was a notch superior to the Skeletal Knight’s. The heavy great axe was directly repelled. He retracted his sword and thrust forward, seizing the opportunity while the Skeletal Knight was off-balance to press his attack. However, a shield made of grayish-green Undead energy suddenly appeared on the Skeletal Knight’s chest, blocking his thrust.
He could no longer press his attack, as the Skeletal Knight had regained its balance and blocked his advance with its great axe. The long sword and the great axe continued to clash. The “clang, clang, clang” of their blows drove the surrounding Players to the brink of madness. They covered their ears, trying to distance themselves from the battlefield, but Karari City was already packed with Players and Undead. There was no room to squeeze into.
Angus, controlling the Skeletal Knight, was still comfortable in the initial stages. But as time went on, and the exchanges increased, the Skeletal Knight began to retreat step by step. It realized that the Skeletal Knight it was controlling had become sluggish. This was because the Skeletal Knight’s body had already sustained damage. Its bones began to crumble, and gray-white bone debris occasionally fell to the ground. The Undead Ghost Fire in its eye sockets was no longer vigorous, and the Undead energy that enveloped its body grew increasingly thin. With each block against the human Champion Knight’s attack, some of its grayish-green Undead energy would evaporate and dissipate.
It wanted to retreat into the Undead Legion to devour some Undead and recover its injuries. But it was surrounded by human Mages. And the Champion Knight before it gave it no such opportunity.
“Since when did the Church of Light have such a Champion Knight? How come I didn’t know?” Angus, the Ghost Dragon within the Deathly Shadow Cloud, was full of doubt. As the sworn enemy of the Church of Light, they had an intimate knowledge of the Church’s high-end forces. They even knew what color underwear the Pope of Light wore every day. Yet, there was no news of a new Champion Level envoy joining the Holy See.
During this moment of his contemplation, the Skeletal Knight’s movements were a beat too slow. Xi Wei’s long sword, infused with golden Qi, tore through the Skeletal Knight’s defenses. The tip of the sword slashed down from its shoulder blade to its chest. The Qi Slash penetrated its body, its scorching Qi destroying the Skeletal Knight’s physical structure and infringing upon the already tottering Undead Ghost Fire. From the Players’ perspective, the Skeletal Knight’s health was only at a quarter.
The heavily wounded Skeletal Knight let out a wail. Grayish-green Undead energy swirled within its bones, seemingly trying to repair the damage. But the vast gash still had Qi raging within it. The remaining Undead energy was no match for it, and it was impossible to replenish the Undead energy by devouring other Undead. The Skeletal Knight was now at its last breath.
“This battle should be concluded by you,” Xi Wei said, looking at the kneeling, immobile Skeletal Knight. He turned to face the crowd of Players spectating the fight. “After all, if you didn’t break through its skeletal armor, even I would have had a hard time dealing it such heavy damage in a short time.” Xi Wei’s tone was relaxed, and his expression earnest. In reality, however, he intended to make a quick getaway.
During the time he was fighting the Skeletal Knight, the civilians of Karari City had already been evacuated. Now, on the entire battlefield of Karari, only he and the Players remained. Gabriel, who had faked a retreat, had also withdrawn through the teleportation array.
The Players were deeply moved by King of Winter’s words. “Look at what a conscientious NPC is! This is a conscientious NPC!” In the past, Ye Hao, a fellow NPC, had tried to snatch monsters from them. But King of Winter was so good. Not only did he not snatch monsters, but he had also delivered a BOSS to them with critically low health, leaving it half-crippled. The Players were moved to tears.

“Brothers, let’s take him down!” A Warrior Player, who was close to the Skeletal Knight, roared. He slid to the front of the Skeletal Knight and began hacking at its pelvic bone. Behind him, countless others responded. “Quick, quick, quick! This bastard is recovering its injuries. Since King of Winter isn’t attacking anymore, let’s gang up and kill it quickly, or it’ll go back to cutting us like grass when it gets up!”
“Furious elemental fire, heed my command and turn into Dragon Breath to incinerate the enemy!” “Taste my Chain Fireball!” In an instant, various fire magic spells flew out from the crowd of Players. No one paid attention to the low-level Undead mobs. All their attention was focused on the Skeletal Knight.
