Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
“I have deeply felt your kindness to the Wintery Empire, and your request is not excessive. I am also quite satisfied with the corresponding reward.”
Xi Wei glanced at Jessica. The glance was quite aggressive, like a hungry wolf eyeing the elk it had just hunted. Such a look was undoubtedly a good sign in Howard’s eyes.
This meant that the King of Winter should be very interested in his sister.
He suppressed the excitement in his heart and cautiously asked, “So, what do you mean?”
“I accept your condition. I will help you eliminate all opposition and secure your current throne. After the banquet later, have your sister come to my room to find me.”
With that, Xi Wei stood up, looked at Jessica’s expression again, and then said to Howard:
“This banquet was very enjoyable. You put in a lot of effort. Now, you all continue to have fun. I’m a bit tired and will go back to rest.”
The King of Winter left, but the banquet became even more boisterous. This was because Howard and the ministers knew that as long as the King of Winter agreed to this matter, the King of Medon would not change, and their positions would naturally remain unchanged. Everything was a cause for celebration.
“My good sister, you’ve done well!”
Howard couldn’t hide his joy. He raised a glass to Jessica, but then remembered that Jessica didn’t have a habit of drinking, and he felt a bit disappointed. He instead began to dance with the dancing girls in the center of the banquet.
“Your Majesty the King is truly approachable~”
Someone laughed heartily.
“Who says not? If I could dance, I would definitely enjoy the pleasure of dancing with His Majesty the King!”
“Princess, you’re really lucky this time~”
“Indeed! That’s the King of Winter! A hero who repelled the combined elf army and the Undead Legion~”
Various discussions filled Jessica’s ears. The heating in the banquet hall was very strong, and the joyful laughter of the people made the not-so-large banquet hall filled with warmth and liveliness. Yet, even so, Jessica still felt cold—cold in her body and even colder in her heart.
All she could do was try her best not to let the tears in her eyes fall, and to keep her smile brilliantly maintained.
She feared that if she did anything to displease the King of Winter, she would then face abuse from her brother. She feared these chattering ministers, because in their eyes, she was like a packaged item. She feared the King of Winter even more. Everyone called him a hero, but she didn’t know him. All she could think of were Heilna’s teasing words: “You’ll die in the King of Winter’s bed!”
The banquet lasted for a long time, from day to night. The sunset withdrew its last ray of light from the horizon. Howard, who had sobered up from the alcohol, returned to his throne. He clapped his hands, and the uproarious noise in the banquet hall abruptly stopped.
“It’s time.” He turned his head to look at his sister.
“The banquet is over. You should go find the King of Winter now, my good sister.”
“We bid farewell to the Princess!” the ministers shouted in unison. They seemed rehearsed, as if they couldn’t wait to send the girl before them into the King of Winter’s room immediately.
Jessica’s body trembled. She wanted to stand up but found her legs were extremely weak. Once she tried to leave her seat, she would inexplicably collapse back into it. She tried several times, tears welling up in her eyes, but none were successful.
“It seems my good sister is so happy her legs have gone weak. But I can understand that. After all, it’s the King of Winter. Not every woman has such good fortune as you.”
Howard never hesitated to mock Jessica.
He waved his hand.
Immediately, two maids came out from behind the throne.
They stepped forward.
To her left and right, they took hold of Jessica’s shoulders.
“Take her to the King of Winter’s room. Don’t let the King of Winter wait too long, or none of us will be able to bear the blame if he gets upset.”
The two maids’ hearts tightened upon hearing this.
They hurriedly pushed the princess towards the exit of the banquet hall.
To them,
this princess was terrifyingly delicate and light.
It seemed a gust of wind could blow her away.
Jessica looked back helplessly.
The surrounding scenery slowly receded.
She reached out her hand as if to ask for help.
But the ministers’ gazes were greedy and triumphant. They were envisioning a bright future. The knights stood expressionlessly in the four corners of the palace. Her brother was laughing heartily while drinking wine. He said, “My good sister, you must do a good job of pleasing the King of Winter. The entire Medon Empire will remember your contribution. I will command the historian to write you into the annals of Medon~”
Jessica lowered her eyes. She finally understood.
There was no one in this vast palace who could save her.
This was her destiny from birth.
This was a foregone conclusion that could not be changed no matter how she resisted.
The Princess withdrew her hand, lowered her head, and allowed the two maids to escort her forward. She was still just a child, solitude had accompanied her entire life. She was completely unprepared for what was about to happen.
The King of Winter’s room was not far.
The two maids walked hastily. Even after climbing three flights of stairs, they delivered the princess to the door of the King of Winter’s room within ten minutes.
They bravely knocked lightly on the door.
After a moment, a robust and intricately beautiful little girl opened the door.
“Is something wrong?”
Connie bit her pale fingers, her gaze sweeping back and forth between the maids and Jessica. Her indifferent eyes looked as if she were looking at a group of food.
“We are here to deliver Princess Jessica.”
One of the maids said tremblingly.
“Oh.” Connie nodded. “Just hand her to me.”
The two maids looked at each other. This girl looked even younger than Princess Jessica. Could she really help Jessica inside?
“What? You look down on me?!”
Connie puffed out her pretty face, her lips suddenly splitting to her ears, a gaping maw opening to reveal densely packed, needle-like sharp dragon teeth. Half of her head had also transformed into the appearance of a giant dragon.
The two maids cried out in shock, nearly scared to death by the horrifying sight before them.
They didn’t care about the princess in their arms.
They directly pushed Jessica forward and turned to run, shouting “Mommy!” and “Gods above!” as they fled.
“Heh heh~”
Connie’s expression returned to normal.
She picked up the pale-faced, stunned princess and slung her over her shoulder.
She even reached out and patted Jessica’s perky buttocks, shaking her head and sighing:
“You’re not even a few ounces in total~ How can your front and back develop so well? So strange… Damn! Damn it! It’s too much for a dragon! Why does Connie never grow up?”
