Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Bryant had made many predictions about what would happen next.
He had initially thought that even if his old dragon breath didn’t heavily injure the Champion Knight, it would at least force the knight to retreat three paces.
But he couldn’t have possibly imagined, nor could he understand, that his massive dragon breath would be completely absorbed without a trace. “Positive and negative charges attract~” Bai Yao raised her eyebrows triumphantly, a smile on her lips.
The dragon breath exhaled by the Blue Dragon had been completely absorbed by the electric field she had generated, and it was condensed into the golden orb of light in her hand. Lightning crackled around the orb, exuding an aura of destructive ferocity, indicating that it was not as stable as it appeared. “You, you’re that Bard?!” Bryant’s eyes widened in shock.
He watched as the petite Bard before him untied her ponytail, letting her snow-white hair cascade down her back. Then, she removed the beard from her lips, shed her cloak to reveal wings, and wiped her cheeks with her small hands. Instantly, she transformed from a handsome young man into a charming and endearing Elf Girl. “Let me reintroduce myself, my name is Bai Yao. I’m not some Bard. That was all an act for you, you foolish giant lizard~” Bai Yao giggled, and the golden electric orb in her hand floated up, circling her gently like a docile lamb.
“Damn you! Cunning human knight! Cunning Elf! I will remember you!” Bryant roared in fury. He lay limply on the ground, utterly exhausted and unable to resist further. “Is that all you can say? What good is it if you remember me?” “I curse you!” Bryant’s eyelids started to droop. He already foresaw his tragic fate, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to be defiant. After all, dragons, especially Blue Dragons, were proud and arrogant. “Curse us, with what power do you have?” Bai Yao scoffed. It would have been understandable if the Blue Dragon had insulted her. But if he dared to curse Xi Wei, she wouldn’t hold back. Did he know how important Xi Wei was? The core of the entire Royal Maid Corps and the King of the Wintery Empire. If anything happened to Xi Wei, the Maid Corps would descend into chaos, and the Wintery Empire would become an explosive powder keg, blowing the North Continent to smithereens. “What do you gain by cursing us?” Bryant glared at Bai Yao. At that moment, he wished the knight would just chop him down with a sword; then he wouldn’t have to endure the pain of having his dragon horns and dragon whip repeatedly harvested or his dragon scales scraped off. He wanted to enrage the knight as much as possible. “I curse you to have a terrible death! I curse all your family to die under the claws of the Five-Colored Evil Dragon! I curse…” “Crackling!” Bai Yao didn’t let Bryant continue his tirade. With a grim expression, she pressed the concentrated golden electric orb directly onto Bryant’s forehead. “Boom—!” A terrifying explosion echoed through the jungle. The ground trembled violently, and a shower of leaves rained down. After the smoke and dust cleared, the Blue Dragon, lying there, was charred black and unconscious. Bai Yao, meanwhile, remained in the pose of having her hand pressed against the Blue Dragon’s forehead. A gentle breeze stirred the loose strands of hair at her temples, and the killing intent in her purple eyes gradually subsided. A meter in front of her was an interwoven electric net shield, protecting both herself and Xi Wei from the damage of the recent lightning blast. “Positive charges repel each other when they collide. If there are enough charges, an explosion can occur,” Bai Yao retracted her hand, gently tidied her hair, and resumed her appearance as a pure young girl. “Master, how do you plan to deal with this Blue Dragon?” she asked, rubbing her small hands together, her pretty face flushed, and her voice soft. Xi Wei’s lips twitched slightly as he looked at Bai Yao’s feigned gentle demeanor. He wondered who this girl had learned from. She had been full of killing intent just moments ago, and her ability to change expressions was on par with that silly dragon. “As the King of the Wintery Empire, I am lacking a majestic mount, and this Blue Dragon is quite suitable,” Xi Wei replied after a brief moment of thought. This Blue Dragon possessed considerable combat strength; even two ordinary Champion Knights might not be its match. It would be too much of a waste to kill it. “But don’t you already have Connie as your mount?” Bai Yao looked confused. Normally, Xi Wei would sit if he could walk, and lie down if he could sit. And Connie was a perfect mount for him. Lying on her was not only stable but also kept him warm in winter and cool in summer. Even the maids couldn’t quite figure out why Xi Wei always found a soft place to lie. It was said to be a special privilege granted by Connie. In any case, only Xi Wei had such treatment; other maids, even Loli and Ruo Yi, couldn’t achieve it by trying to please Connie. According to Connie, she could only grant such a privilege to one person because she wasn’t fierce enough. “Connie is different. I’ve never treated her as a mount; she’s part of our family,” Xi Wei said earnestly, his eyes gentle. “And, although I often ride Connie during the day… cough, cough, I mean, that’s when we’re in the sky. After landing, I can’t possibly have Connie pull a carriage.” “But a Blue Dragon of that size can’t pull a carriage either?” Bai Yao looked bewildered. What kind of carriage would a Blue Dragon, over thirty meters tall with a wingspan of over forty meters, pull? It would likely be half the size of a palace. But given Xi Wei’s personality, he would absolutely not resort to wasting public resources for his own pleasure to build such a massive carriage. But he couldn’t have the Blue Dragon pull an ordinary carriage either. This Blue Dragon didn’t seem to have the ability to change its size. A slight misstep could crush the carriage. Bai Yao pondered, unable to understand what Xi Wei was planning. Xi Wei noticed the confusion on Bai Yao’s face. He sighed inwardly, thinking that Bai Yao was still just a simple girl; how could she comprehend his terrifying capitalist nature? He felt it was necessary to let Bai Yao grasp the meaning of capital. So, he explained to Bai Yao, “It’s very simple. When flying in the sky, let him use his true dragon form. When landing, let him use his human form to pull the carriage.” Bai Yao finally understood, and her eyes lit up in realization. “You mean, you want him to be your coachman, right?” “No!” Xi Wei smiled and shook his head. Bai Yao had truly failed to grasp the true essence of a capitalist. Having the Blue Dragon serve as a coachman would require four additional horses. How much value could those four horses create if they were put to use in the city’s production activities? How could the value of those four horses be wasted for the pleasure of a single king? “The Blue Dragon itself will serve as the horse. When on the ground, he will transform into his human form and pull my royal carriage! He can also participate in the construction of the entire city. He’s multipurpose and has a lot of freedom!” Bai Yao stared at the matter-of-fact Xi Wei, dumbfounded. At that moment, she was utterly astonished!
