Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 409: Let the Blue Dragon Work for You (2)
“I plan to subdue him and make him my mount.” Xi Wei circled the blue dragon, sizing it up. He was contemplating how to control this behemoth.
“Uh, Your Majesty…” Yogg-Saron was shocked by Xi Wei’s idea. Using a giant dragon to pull a carriage, what kind of train of thought would lead to such a solution? Were giant dragons that easy to tame?
Yogg-Saron felt it was necessary to try and persuade the whimsical king.
“Your Majesty,” he said, walking to Xi Wei and staying half a step behind. He tried to dissuade him tactfully, “Taming a giant dragon is not realistic, especially an unruly blue dragon. Having a blue dragon pull a carriage is even more impossible. It would be a humiliation for the dragon. It would be better to kill it, so its various materials can create more value for the empire.”
“You think giant dragons can’t be tamed because you haven’t found their weakness. Any creature with emotions will inevitably have a soft spot.” Xi Wei turned and replied to Yogg-Saron. He already had a general idea in mind.
“Are there any remaining dragon-sleep potions in the castle warehouse?”
“There are twelve doses,” Yogg-Saron replied. “During the previous battle in Dragonflame City, many dragon-sleep potions were destroyed. The current dragon-sleep potions were hastily produced by the court alchemists.”
Xi Wei nodded. “Twelve doses are enough. Bring them all to me.”
One dose of dragon-sleep potion can make an adult dragon fall asleep for an hour. This duration shortens as the dragon’s strength increases. For instance, once a dragon reaches the adult dragon stage, one dose of dragon-sleep potion only lasts for half an hour. These potions are often considered useless because getting them into a dragon’s stomach is a difficult task.
Dragon-sleep potions were originally invented to tame dragon beasts. Some hot-tempered Dragon Blood warhorses could also be tamed with a small amount of dragon-sleep potion. However, the dosage must be carefully controlled. If the dosage is too high and exceeds the monster’s tolerance, the monster will fall into a permanent sleep from which it can never awaken. Yogg-Saron didn’t question Xi Wei’s intentions and immediately ordered his knights to retrieve the potions.
In less than ten minutes, the personal guards returned on horseback, each carrying two cloth bags. Xi Wei opened the bags to reveal twelve glass bottles filled with a light blue potion. These were the dragon-sleep potions, whose main ingredient was Dreamweed, a common anesthetic. However, the secondary ingredients were quite specific, requiring bone powder ground from the horns of dragons older than the young stage, along with Sacred Heart Fruit, Crobit Ghost Vine, a stabilizer, and the blood of a dragon beast.
This batch of dragon-sleep potions was blue, mainly due to the color of the dragon beast’s blood. The court alchemist had used the blood of an adult dragon whale. If not for this sky-blue color, which closely resembled sapphire, the dragon-hunting operation might have encountered more complications.
After obtaining the dragon-sleep potions, Xi Wei planned to administer two doses to the blue dragon. He roughly shoved the potions into the blue dragon’s mouth, wedged them against its teeth, and kicked it. The potions shattered along with the dragon’s teeth, and the fragments, mixed with the liquid, flowed into the dragon’s mouth. Xi Wei lifted the blue dragon’s jaw and used a nearby stone slab to prop it open, ensuring the potion would flow smoothly into the dragon’s stomach.
Having done all this, he drew the King of Conquest Long Sword and swung it mercilessly at the blue dragon’s wing. With a crack, the left dragon wing snapped off, and dragon blood splattered outwards like a fountain. The blue dragon, Bryant, let out a couple of groans, frowning but not waking up.
Xi Wei ordered the knights to fetch buckets of dragon blood and then went around to the other side of the dragon. With another crack, the right dragon wing also broke. This intense pain finally awakened Bryant, who let out a muffled roar, his will rapidly returning. However, Xi Wei was prepared for this. He kicked two more doses of dragon-sleep potion into Bryant’s mouth. The poor blue dragon shook its head unwillingly and fell back into unconsciousness.
Next, Xi Wei repeated the process. He utilized the properties of the dragon-sleep potion and severed the blue dragon’s four limbs and tail. To prevent the blue dragon from dying of blood loss, he even administered some Life Water until its wounds stopped bleeding and began to sprout granulation tissue. Giant dragons do possess strong regenerative abilities. However, losing all four limbs and wings was a severe injury. It would take at least half a year for new limbs to fully grow back on their own.
“These wings, limbs, and tail are yours now,” Xi Wei said, turning around and wiping the dragon blood from his face. He then pointed to the pile of body parts that had accumulated into a small mountain. “These should be a considerable resource for the development of Dragonflame City,” he told Yogg-Saron. “I hope you won’t disappoint me.”
Yogg-Saron’s lips trembled with excitement as he looked at the abundant dragon materials. The happiness came too suddenly; he pinched his thigh, still finding it hard to believe. “Your… Your Majesty, are these truly all for me?”
“Of course,” Xi Wei nodded grandly. “Not only these, but the dragon blood can be yours too. Dragonflame City is just beginning to recover. You can use this dragon blood to cultivate some powerful forces. However, dragon blood is a double-edged sword. While it can enhance human talent, it also consumes life force. This enhancement is terrifying and should only be given to those who are completely loyal, otherwise, it will surely bring you a lot of trouble.”
“Your Majesty, please rest assured, I will definitely use these materials judiciously.” Yogg-Saron knelt on one knee, barely able to contain his excitement. He had once sworn allegiance to Duke Manhattan, but now he realized that oath wasn’t unbreakable. Since Duke Manhattan and His Majesty Winter were father and son, switching his allegiance to King of Winter shouldn’t be considered a betrayal of his oath…
Xi Wei was unaware that his small gesture of generosity had almost undermined his own father. Giant dragons were not unfamiliar to Xi Wei. He saw them daily during the day, occasionally at night, and even drank dragon milk in the morning. There was nothing particularly special about them, so he generously bestowed these limb parts without hesitation.
If you want the horse to run, you have to feed it grass. True capitalists never stifle value; they only strive to exploit it to the fullest. Now, only the blue dragon’s head remained. With Bai Yao nearby, he didn’t have to worry about dragon breath harming the surrounding people. It was time to awaken this blue dragon. He ordered soldiers to bring siege equipment, used strong steel cables to bind the blue dragon’s hindquarters, and hung it upside down. Then, he walked up to the blue dragon’s head and began slapping its face with fierce open-handed blows.
