Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 63: News from Dawn Town
Ms. followed the pedestrians on the street into the city.
The guards did not make things difficult for her. Upon hearing that she was from Dawn Town, they briefly asked the reason for her visit to Winter City and then let her pass.
Ms. was here for tourism, but she also wanted to meet the Lord of Eagle Territory, as some unsettling things were happening in Dawn Town that she couldn’t quite figure out.
The streets were clean and wide, the crowds were bustling, peddlers were pushing carts back and forth, and Gothic-style houses stood in neat rows. Even the small thatched-roof houses were adorned with flowers and greenery, creating a beautiful scene.
As Ms. walked along, she had passed through many towns and found that the closer she got to Winter City, the cleaner and more magnificent the city became, and the brighter the smiles of the people within were.
All of this silently proved one fact: the Lord of Eagle Territory was an excellent and benevolent ruler.
As she walked and observed, she suddenly noticed a long queue outside a shop, which puzzled her.
What kind of goods were being sold to attract so many people, and why were there guards maintaining order?
Driven by curiosity, she couldn’t help but tap an uncle on the shoulder.
The uncle, who was patiently queuing with his child, suddenly felt movement on his shoulder and instinctively looked back, only to find no one there.
“Hello…”
Ms. deeply regretted not making herself taller when entering the game.
Hearing the voice, the uncle finally noticed Ms., who was standing on tiptoe and craning her neck, asking with confusion:
“Miss, what can I do for you?”
“Ah, well, I’m just very curious. What does this shop sell? Why is business so good?”
“This is a clinic, not a shop.”
The uncle grinned and added cheerfully:
“Let me tell you, the physician in this clinic is amazing. Although it’s a young demi-human girl, she’s even more capable than those haughty priests.”
“Most importantly, she’s incredibly beautiful, kind-hearted, and only charges us farmers one copper coin.”
Ms.’s eyes widened in surprise. “Are you sure she’s a demi-human?”
“Sure, why wouldn’t I be? If you don’t believe me, go to the front of the line and see for yourself. But I’ll warn you, don’t cut the line. A lady who tried to cut in line earlier was literally carried to the back by the city guards.”
Seeing the uncle’s certainty, Ms. suppressed her doubts and walked towards the shop entrance.
On her journey from Dawn Town to Winter City, she had encountered many demi-humans.
However, their living conditions were all unsatisfactory. This was the first time she had heard of a demi-human opening a shop, and moreover, being a beautiful young girl.
When she reached the shop entrance, she saw that the person treating the injured was indeed a charming and lovely demi-human girl.
Her beauty stemmed from a natural and elegant aura, almost rivaling Saintess Ruo Yi, whom the Players admired the most.
The demi-human girl in the shop was talking with an old man with a gentle smile on her face, radiating warmth like the first ray of spring sunlight.
And she looked somewhat familiar.
Ms. gazed at the girl’s face, searching her memory.
Suddenly, she remembered this was the same demi-human girl who had been cornered and beaten by a group of brats in an alley!
How had she changed so completely? Not only had she learned magical skills, but she was no longer timid or immature. She had become so…
Ms. struggled to find a suitable adjective.
But she knew that a person who is happy naturally and unconsciously radiates a dazzling radiance.
Yes, in Ms.’s eyes, this demi-human girl sitting in the clinic was very happy.
But why was she so happy? Was it because of the Lord of Eagle Territory?
Ms. was filled with many questions, which conflicted with each other, each with its own explanation. It seemed as if each one was right, yet also wrong.
Hesitation and confusion enveloped her.
She decided to go and meet the Lord of Eagle Territory immediately. Perhaps everything would become clear then.
Meeting the Lord of Eagle Territory was not an easy task, but once Ms. announced her name, it became much simpler.
Xi Wei had a good impression of this Player. He had met her once in Dawn Town and often read her posts about scenic spots when he played the game in his previous life.
He realized she was already level 20, which meant other Players were likely around the same level, with skilled players probably around level 25.
“So, what brings you all the way from Dawn Town to Winter City?”
Xi Wei looked at Ms. with curiosity. He genuinely admired her ability to accurately find Winter City in the center of the territory from the edges of Eagle Territory without a map.
Any other Player would have died a hundred times on the way, perhaps even writing a sensational guide titled “One Hundred Ways to Die on the Way to Winter City.”
“May I ask you a few questions first?”
Ms. looked at the man with an imposing aura with some trepidation and did not answer his question immediately.
“Go ahead.”
“Is the demi-human girl in the outer city clinic the same one from the alley that day?”
“Yes.”
Xi Wei nodded, unsure why Ms. was asking this.
“But… but how did she become like this?”
Ms. patted her forehead in frustration, finally finding a fitting description. She continued, “She’s so different now, like Cinderella has transformed into a princess.”
“Because I like her.”
Xi Wei’s expression was one of genuine obviousness.
Ms. was stunned. What kind of logic was this for the Lord of Eagle Territory? Could he make someone beautiful just by liking them? Could he make them jump to level 40-something and master advanced Healing skills?
Ms. wanted to say, “Please, Lord of Eagle Territory, like me too.”
Of course, she only dared to complain in her heart. If she really said it out loud, she was sure this cold-hearted man would throw her off the castle balcony.
She steadied her emotions and finally asked the most important question:
“Do you have any ill will towards the Saintess, or towards demi-humans?”
“The Saintess? Demi-humans?”
Xi Wei was slightly taken aback. He lightly tapped his fingers on the table, lost in thought.
He certainly held no ill will towards demi-humans, and even less towards the Demi-human Saintess, as they had kissed… However, due to Ye Hao and future events, he and the demi-humans would inevitably have an adversarial relationship.
How should he answer this question?
The atmosphere in the conference hall gradually became somber.
Seeing Xi Wei’s silence, Ms. pondered for a long time. Finally, she couldn’t bear it any longer, gritted her teeth, and questioned him loudly:
“Lord of Eagle Territory, you didn’t harm the Demi-human Saintess, did you?”
“The day after you two were in the same room, she fell ill and has been growing weaker ever since. All the Players are pointing their fingers at you.”
“I thought so too,” Ms. lowered her head, her expression troubled and confused.
“But, everything I’ve seen and heard along the way, plus seeing that demi-human girl who is now like a princess… I…”
“I am confused.”
“I really want to know if the matter with the Saintess has anything to do with you?”
