Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Three hundred years was indeed not a long time for Bryant. After three hundred years of natural growth, he would have advanced to the adult dragon stage, his strength close to Tier Eight, and on the verge of touching the legendary realm. However, these three hundred years, he could only follow this human, becoming his mount. What were other dragons doing at this age? Building territories! Waging wars! Mating! How could he waste his youth of three hundred years on a human? It was impossible, he simply couldn’t accept it.
“Three hundred years is not acceptable, too long!” Bryant shook his head, coldly staring at Xi Wei. “You can indeed torture me, making me wish for death rather than life, but I can also choose to have my dragon soul extinguished, in which case you will gain nothing in the end.”
Xi Wei had expected Bryant’s refusal. Negotiation always started by setting high conditions to allow for back-and-forth. “Two hundred years,” he said.
“Impossible, greedy human, at most I can accept fifty years!”
“Fifty years, you can’t bring me any value. Your current strength isn’t even as good as mine. In that case, it would be better to harvest parts from you every six months,” Xi Wei shook his head. He raised his King of Conquest Long Sword and pried off a dragon scale. The blue dragon let out a painful roar along with his movement.
“Eighty years, damn human, don’t peel off my dragon scales! This is my final concession!”
“One hundred and fifty years, and I’ll allow you to go out and find monsters to mate with.”
“One hundred years! Human, don’t push your luck!”
“Deal!” Xi Wei smiled. In a hundred years, he would have reached an unknown stage—he might even have become a god. By then, this blue dragon would have to cling to his leg for survival, no matter what. Even if this blue dragon didn’t want to follow him anymore, it wouldn’t matter. Once the contract expired, he would simply slaughter it. It was just a lizard, how could it grow as fast as him, a cheater?
Seeing the knight smile so delightfully, Bryant felt increasingly unbalanced in his heart. Thinking back on his recent encounters, he had first been ousted from his home, and then he had lost his mate. He had thought that living in a new place would allow him to start a stable new life, but unexpectedly, he was captured by a cunning human. The sapphire was fake, the bard was fake, everything was fake!
“Since we have reached an agreement, let’s sign the contract,” Xi Wei said. He waved his hand, and the court alchemist behind him immediately brought out a pre-prepared contract scroll and handed it to him. The knights released the blue dragon, which had been hanging upside down, and then untied the steel cable wrapped around the blue dragon’s hindquarters. They even thoughtfully flipped him over so he could see the scroll.
As a giant dragon, Bryant was an expert in contracts himself. He carefully read the contents of the contract. It was indeed one hundred years of fealty. During this century, he had to act as the knight’s mount, help the knight in battle, participate in national construction, and perform physical labor, among other things. In addition, every spring, he would have a month’s leave to find a mate outside. The terms were quite good. The sheepskin scroll had indeed received the blessing of the God of Contracts, and he could feel the just and peaceful divine power.
Bryant secretly nodded. At least this human was relatively conscientious, not playing any tricks or exploiting loopholes in the contract. After repeatedly checking that there were no problems, he dripped a drop of dragon blood onto the seven. With a dazzling golden light, everyone felt a powerful will sweep over them from above, indicating that the contract had been established. “Very good!” Xi Wei nodded in satisfaction. Forty-odd Sleeping Dragon Potions for the loyalty of an adult blue dragon was a profitable deal. If all dragons were so easy to trick, that would be great.
“Since you are now my mount, I can’t just let you go around with missing limbs,” Xi Wei looked at the pathetic blue dragon, a smile involuntarily rising on his lips. He took out five bottles of undiluted Life Spring from his Space Ring, pulled out the stoppers, and poured them all into Bryant’s mouth. One bottle was divided and poured onto the broken limbs and wings of Bryant.
Bryant’s eyes widened in shock. When the human knight opened his Space Ring just now, he had seen the neatly stacked Life Spring through the fleeting spatial rift. Moreover, these Life Springs were stored in ordinary glass bottles, sealed with oak stoppers. That was Life Spring! Although the Space Ring was in a state of spatial封禁 (sealed), Life Spring would not evaporate inside. But those goblin merchants and even elves, who didn’t use expensive crystal bottles or even magic crystal bottles to store Life Spring? What was this human’s background? How could he have so much Life Spring? Had he raided the Elven Royal Court!
Bryant couldn’t bring himself to ask these questions, as it would make him seem inferior. His limbs began to recover under the effect of the Life Spring, flesh and blood growing rapidly. A pair of dragon wings also gradually took shape amidst the wriggling flesh buds. The surrounding knights saw this and pulled their warhorses back a little. This blue dragon was loyal to the King of Winter, not to their Dragonflame City. What if the dragon sought revenge after recovering from its injuries? If they died, so be it. No matter how just His Majesty Winter was, he couldn’t possibly execute a loyal blue dragon for their sake.
“Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am this country’s King, the King of Winter, Xi Wei Jinshi. I believe you must have heard of my name?” Xi Wei leaned his King of Conquest Long Sword on the ground in front of him, slightly tilting his chin, eagerly anticipating Bryant’s reaction.
“Uh… I haven’t heard of you at all.” Bryant moved his new dragon claws, scratching his head. King of Winter? He had never heard of such a title. He had heard that there was a Kolon Empire here before, but it seemed to have been destroyed. He did have a group of Firebat dependents to gather intelligence, but before they became his dependents, these cave bats were just unintelligent monsters with only beast instincts, making communication difficult. How much could they know about the nearby cities? He himself came from near the Undead Desert, so he had some understanding of the Kairid Empire, the Andor Empire, and the Church of Light.
Bryant stretched his limbs and dragon wings, completely oblivious to Xi Wei’s stiff and gloomy expression, and to Bai Yao, who was covering her mouth, her shoulders shaking as she desperately tried to suppress her laughter.
“You don’t know me?” Xi Wei confirmed repeatedly.
“No, why should I know you?” Bryant said with disdain. “Are you very powerful?” He had signed a contract of loyalty, which, in simpler terms, meant he was working for the knight in front of him. He didn’t need to be as respectful as a subordinate.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t know me.” Xi Wei swung the King of Conquest Long Sword behind his back. First, he shot Bai Yao a fierce glare. Then, he said to the blue dragon with a forced smile, “The treatment for your injuries earlier used five bottles of Life Spring. These were not diluted versions, and their market price starts at around five thousand gold coins each. Furthermore, they are rarely available in the market, meaning you now owe me twenty-five thousand gold coins. I won’t count the Life Spring used to treat your injuries while you were unconscious. How do you plan to repay these twenty-five thousand gold coins now?”
