Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
“In short, you have been declared wanted and are now under arrest!”
(Player Name) (M) stared at the silent Orcs, constantly wary of their HP Bars turning from yellow to red.
At the same time, he was calling for other Players to come and back him up.
The Players arrived quickly.
Half of them were riding imposing Nightglow Wolves.
They circled the Orcs, displaying a predatory demeanor.
In reality, seeing the black and red threat levels beneath Bart and Pet’s names made them extremely nervous.
Speaking of which, ever since the King of Winter became Legendary, a new threat level had appeared.
That is, the all-black [Invincible].
This should be the highest threat level.
He wondered if there was anything above it.
Pet was also conflicted.
The warlike bloodline of the Orcs told him that what he should be doing now was drawing his axe and splitting these humans parading in front of him in half, then grabbing one half, dipping it into the other half’s blood and entrails, and eating it raw!
But the mission given by the Beast King and Layton (Male)’s warnings weighed so heavily on his mind, suppressing his impulses.
Could they really kill these people without suspicion?
“Don’t try to resist.”
Seeing that the Orcs remained silent, (Player Name) (M) continued to pressure them. He took out a magic scroll from his Player Backpack and said nonchalantly:
“This scroll can send a distress signal to Winter City. If you intend to resist, make sure your axe swings are as fast as me tearing up this scroll.”
Pet estimated the distance between himself and the enforcer.
He had taken the Shapeshifting Potion.
His current strength could not be fully displayed.
Especially since his Totem Power was completely useless, and his weapon was not drawn.
It was almost impossible to instantly kill this enforcer.
Not to mention the many similar enforcers nearby.
If he couldn’t kill him instantly, the signal would inevitably be sent, raising an alarm.
Their identities could not withstand investigation. As long as they didn’t drink the Shapeshifting Potion daily, they would revert to their original forms.
Once their Orcish appearance was revealed.
This infiltration mission would end in failure.
The Sea God’s Tear might not be recovered…
The Human King’s head might not be chopped off…
Mission failure was not an honor for Orcs.
Orcs must endure humiliation!
At this moment, Pet thought of many things.
He pursed his lips and said to (Player Name) (M):
“Enforcer Lord, I have realized my mistake. I am willing to compensate a thousand Gold Coins, but we do not have that much money on us right now. We need some time, perhaps to hunt some Magical Beasts and sell their Magic Cores for money!”
(Player Name) (M)’s pupils contracted.
To think they hadn’t erupted by this point made him even more suspicious that these Orcs were up to no good!
They must be on a very important mission, so important that they absolutely could not reveal their identities.
This was great! (Player Name) (M) felt the fourth plague within him boiling again.
“I’m very sorry, Mr. Pet, but I cannot let any of you leave Black River City. While I’m very willing to believe that you genuinely intend to go out and hunt monsters~” (Player Name) (M) spread his hands, “But honestly, what if you run away?”
“Why are you so slow!?” Samuro, listening to the conversation between his Commander and the Human enforcer, felt his blood pressure rising. He grumbled:
“We won’t run! We, the Ogre Mercenary Group, are men of our word! It’s just a thousand Gold Coins, isn’t that just ten Tier 5 Magic Cores? We’ll prepare them!”
“Then please present them now, and you can do whatever you want.” (Player Name) (M) extended his hand, palm facing up.
“We can’t produce them right now.”
(Player Name) (M): “Then obediently go to jail!”
“We don’t want to go to jail either…”
“If you don’t want to go to jail, there’s another way you can repay the thousand Gold Coins.”
“What way?!” The Orcs looked on expectantly.
(Player Name) (M) smiled mysteriously, his intention revealed:
“We are currently on a mission to apprehend remnants of a religious organization. There are a few tough nuts that are hard to crack. I see that the members of your Ogre Mercenary Group are all powerful. How about you join us? Once this mission is completed, it will count as repaying the thousand Gold Coins. Our enforcement team will cover the losses you cause.”
The Orcs quieted down, their round eyes fixed on their Commander.
Pet stroked his chin.
He used to stroke his tusks, but now that he had fewer tusks, he was still a bit unaccustomed.
Undoubtedly, the enforcer’s proposal was excellent.
They had to carry out their mission and take their potions on time, so they couldn’t go to jail. Going on a mission with these people would not only solve their current problem but also gather intelligence – killing two birds with one stone!
But Layton (Male) had said.
Always have a backup plan for everything.
Do not agree immediately!
So Pet put on a show of deep consideration before finally saying to (Player Name) (M):
“Enforcer of Black River City, our Ogre Mercenary Group is willing to undertake the mission with you. However, after the mission is completed, we must regain our freedom. You must swear to the God you believe in!”
Divine oaths were very effective on the Cain Continent.
Generally, if someone dared to swear, it meant there were no major issues.
“Of course!” (Player Name) (M) smiled slightly, pointing a finger to the sky, and swore: “I swear to the great God of Materialism, Marx! After the Ogre Mercenary Group assists us in completing the mission, all debts and grievances between the Ogre Mercenary Group and Black River City will be settled. If I go against this, I am willing to accept the most brutal Divine Punishment!”
What in the world was the God of Materialism?
Pet was utterly stunned, having never heard of such a thing.
But seeing (Player Name) (M)’s earnest expression and his fluent recitation of the deity’s true name and domain, he didn’t seem to be bluffing…
There were many pantheons on the Cain Continent.
It was very common to worship strange gods.
Pet looked around and saw that the other enforcers also looked as if this was perfectly normal, so he no longer doubted.
He couldn’t possibly ask these enforcers: What kind of god do you worship, I’ve never even heard of it!
This would be an act of extreme disrespect.
For believers of a God, it would be an unbearable insult!
Some hot-tempered followers of certain Gods might even choose to perish with the blasphemer to defend their deity.
Pet did not want to test if these enforcers were such fanatical believers.
“Alright, from now on, the Ogre Mercenary Group will await your orders.”
Pet said reluctantly.
“Of course, we will only be responsible for the combat. As for menial tasks and trivial matters, please allow us to refuse!”
