Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
Chapter 566: Battle of Legends, War of Extermination
Time rewinds to ten minutes ago.
The Undead Legion had completely surrounded the Emerald Forest. Under the protection of the Death Emperor, Ghost Dragon Angus was particularly rampant.
His strength had not fully recovered but was already very close to Legendary-grade. At this moment, he was overpowering two seventh-tier Sword Dancers, a water elemental Source Mage, and a Frost Elemental that was close to Legendary-grade.
Even with the augmentation of the World Tree, these elves’ strength was still insufficient to deal with the Ghost Dragon. They could only do their best to hold Angus back, preventing him from joining the Death Emperor to attack Her Majesty the Empress.
The magical lights intertwined in the sky, forming a spectacular fireworks display.
But at this moment, no one was appreciating it.
The elves had no time, and the undead had no heart.
Pitch-black clouds covered the sky, as heavy as a gloom pressing down on every elf’s heart. The roars of the dead were incessant. Looking up, the forest, which should have been filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers, was now only filled with deathly stillness and wriggling skeletons.
Louis trembled as he buried a brooch into the soil at his feet. Elves were born of and died in nature. He hoped that this land could retain some trace of elves before he turned into a withered skeleton.
Bart hid behind a tree, wiping his moonblade. This weapon originated from his father, a powerful Sword Dancer who died in the war protecting the Emerald Forest. Now it was his turn. “Father…” he muttered, his gaze becoming firmer.
Holly and her young brother hid in the corner of a treehouse. She clutched a dagger in her right hand, her eyes nervously gazing outside.
“Ugh…”
The roars of the undead grew closer.
The vines on the outside of the treehouse creaked as something climbed.
Fear spread in the silence.
“Elder Sister…” Five-year-old Toby looked at his sister, who was not much older than himself and often fought with him over toys. His eyes showed an unresolvable despair and worry.
“Shhh!” Holly turned her head and pushed her brother further into the corner.
“Stay here, close your eyes, don’t move, and don’t make a sound!” she whispered commandingly, just as she usually did when bullying Toby.
When Toby obediently closed his eyes,
Holly gritted her teeth, gripped her dagger, and darted out of the treehouse.
“Damn undead, I’m here!”
The footsteps faded, and the roars of the undead disappeared.
Only Toby remained, hiding in the corner, covering his mouth and crying silently.
Jeanette calmly helped her husband, Vicky, adjust his collar. Then she took down the war knife hanging on the wall. Everything was done with practiced ease.
Normally, Vicky would have gone hunting. He was a skilled hunter, and those plump mountain finches and rabbits could not escape his precise arrows.
“I’ll be back.”
Vicky caressed his wife’s cheek, a smile on his lips.
As he turned to leave, a crisp “click” sounded from behind him.
He turned his head and saw his wife Jeanette, who had never killed anyone, taking a slender one-handed sword from a box under the bed.
“I’m going with you today.”
Her gaze was firm and unquestionable.
…
…
“Her Majesty the Empress has done her best.”
Watching the shield above their heads disappear,
Sword Dancer Helen knew that the Emerald Forest was now completely exposed to the claws of the Undead Legion.
She turned to face the Hunter Legion, the elite force of the Emerald Forest.
“For a thousand years, we elves have been fighting to reclaim our homeland. Now, we must fight to protect it! Look behind you is the World Tree, our mother… Everyone, don’t let her… fall again.”
Turning, she faced the sea of Undead Calamity.
“Attack!”
Helen lowered her weapon.
“Forward! Don’t look back! To protect all that is precious…”
“We will fight!”
“We will die!”
Arrows and magic shot out along with those agile figures.
There were no words, no fear.
Only unwavering resolve and forward momentum.
“Kill—!”
…
…
Above the Emerald Forest.
Alice Frost clutched her chest, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. The shield had been broken by the Undead Legion, causing her considerable backlash. She wiped away the bloodstain and took a deep breath, trying to adjust herself to her best state.
“Elves should be wiped from this continent.”
The Death Emperor was shrouded in darkness.
Only his cold eyes, emitting killing intent and malice, could be seen through the black mist.
Six thick skeletal arms extended from behind him.
Two arms supported the ground, while the other four hovered around the Elven Empress, waiting for an opportunity.
The battle between Legendary-grade powerhouses was not as flashy as one might expect; each attack was a collision of fundamental forces.
“Extreme Cold Domain, activate!”
Alice Frost clenched her hand in the air, and an azure elemental aura spread out from her center. The temperature within a thousand-mile radius plummeted. The perpetually spring-like Emerald Forest seemed to instantly enter winter.
In a short while, a layer of frost covered all the plants. The skeletons of the undead became sluggish in their movements, and even the Deathly Shadow Cloud was tinged with frost.
A snowflake drifted down from the sky.
This was the signal for the blizzard.
“Keke…”
The Death Emperor was not afraid at all, even mocking her with disdain, “Can’t wait to use your domain? Aren’t you afraid of freezing the entire Emerald Forest into a dead land?”
“Everything has an end,” Elice Frost’s eyes were like deeply buried ice, “but elves will be eternal! And ice will bring true end to you undead!”
“Then I shall await it!”
The Death Emperor threw his head back and roared with laughter.
He pointed a skeletal arm towards the sky.
“Buzz—”
A sickly green vortex bloomed at his fingertips, gradually covering the entire sky.
Dense undead creatures poked their claws and fangs from within: gargoyles, liches, ghost dragons, death thralls—each was a high-tier undead.
They transformed into countless meteors entwined with death energy, raining down from the sky. In addition, numerous tombstones were mixed within.
As soon as these tombstones landed, they began to grow rapidly. Skeletal Knights, Corpse Abominations, and Wailers crawled out of them.
This was the Forbidden Spell, Undead Abyss, and the Great Mausoleum of Burvik.
By casting two Forbidden Spells simultaneously, the Death Emperor even directly used his vast death energy to accelerate the Great Mausoleum of Burvik to its later stages.
Instantly, the entire Emerald Forest turned into a dead domain.
Just then.
Alice Frost’s Forbidden Spell was also ready.
“Extreme Cold Heavenly Punishment!”
“Boom—”
Ice elementals converged towards Alice Frost like a torrent.
Then, they formed a tornado that spread outwards.
This tornado, like a rolling snowball, absorbed all the surrounding ice elements.
And its scale became increasingly terrifying.
Fortunately, the tornado was moving in the direction of the Undead Calamity; otherwise, the elves fighting below would have been in danger.
At the same time, in the blizzard-ravaged area, ice cones as thick as bowls and meters long rained down on the Undead Legion like a torrential downpour.
The Emerald Forest became even colder, and even the soil was frozen hard.
