Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
“How do you manage to stab me in the body with that big sword every single time?”
Cain eyed the knight before him warily. He couldn’t accept it! He couldn’t understand it! He had predicted the knight’s attack trajectory, yet he still couldn’t dodge it.
“It’s nothing more than practice!” Xi Wei sneered, slashing his King of Conquest Long Sword diagonally while charging towards Cain’s rear flank.
Cain hastily dodged the incoming sword energy, but the moment he stopped… “Sizzle—!”
The greatsword pierced his kidney.
“You stabbed me again?” Enraged, he stopped dispersing into a swarm of bats and raised his hands, launching two fierce blood-red lights towards Xi Wei’s face.
Xi Wei tilted his head to evade, then drew his long sword and thrust it forward again. “Sizzle—!”
“You’re still stabbing me!?” Cain exploded. “If you’ve got the guts, just stab me to death! ヽ(#`Д´)ノ”
“Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle—”
Xi Wei had never encountered such an unreasonable request before, so he decided to oblige the progenitor of vampires. After a few strikes, Cain, the entire vampire, was about to be incinerated. It could only be said that Holy Light energy was the natural counter to dark creatures like vampires.
“Why! Why can’t I dodge it! (〝▼皿▼)”
Xi Wei would never tell Cain the truth. Just ten minutes ago, when Cain first appeared, the System suddenly announced that it had analyzed more rules from Blue Star, and now his normal attacks within range could 100% lock onto enemies. This ability was originally intended for the Players, but Xi Wei, as the GM, got to use it first. Normal attacks, weren’t they just basic auto-attacks? He, the King of Winter, excelled at auto-attacks!
With a “Sizzle—” sound, before Cain could react, Xi Wei plunged his thick, long, and wide greatsword into Cain’s body again, even giving it a twist. Sacred Fire burned fiercely on the progenitor of vampires. He let out a howl, transforming into a giant black cloud, and instead of engaging Xi Wei, he charged headfirst towards the World Tree’s roots.
Cain finally remembered that his mission was to destroy the roots, not to play a game of being poked by a greatsword.
“Ruo Yi! Stop him!” Xi Wei shouted.
Ruo Yi locked her gaze onto the black cloud in the sky. The hands of the clock in her eyes spun, and she snapped her right fingers. With a crisp “Snap,” a colossal golden clock hand projection completely enveloped the black cloud. Time within the enveloped space instantly froze.
Xi Wei grinned, pursued, and entered the golden clock hand. Under Ruo Yi’s control, a counter-clockwise spinning clock hand appeared on him, granting him immunity to the time stop.
“Do you have a problem with me? Why aren’t you letting me stab you?” he questioned Cain, instantly finding the small bat representing Cain within the black cloud. It stared with wide, terrified eyes.
“Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle—”
Xi Wei, wielding his greatsword shining with Holy Light, plunged it in seven or eight times, even tearing at its wings. Then, he ignited Sacred Fire in his right hand, completely engulfing the small bat. Instantly, a “sizzle” sound, like dumplings being fried in oil, erupted, making one’s appetite surge.
Ruo Yi’s time-stop ability couldn’t affect the Legendary-grade Cain for long. In just two seconds, the golden clock shattered, and Cain regained his freedom.
“Arghhhh—”
He let out a shrill scream as he was burned by the Sacred Fire, but he still wasn’t killed. He flapped his wings and fled from Xi Wei as if his life depended on it.
“How can this thing have such strong vitality?”
Xi Wei could also see HP Bars. In his eyes, the progenitor of vampires’ HP was clearly depleted, but it was like his HP was locked, and he just wouldn’t die.
[Little Xi Wei, you can’t kill the progenitor of vampires like this. Why don’t you let me out, and I’ll use my four-hundred-meter-long Divine Sword of Judgment to stab him to death!]
The Holy Light Horn emitted a faint glow. The voice of the fun-loving angel Lewenstein echoed from within, carrying a hint of subtle temptation and restless energy, much like a deep-sea demon.
“…Is Lewenstein really an angel?” Xi Wei found himself perplexed for a moment.
As if to validate Lewenstein’s words, Cain’s wounds quickly recovered, and he soon looked as good as new. His black noble long robes appeared pristine.
“You can’t kill me! Only a god can kill me! However, you made me hurt~” Cain laughed maniacally, clutching his face. His voice was sharp, like a pervert who had stumbled upon a Loli.
“How many years has it been?” he mused. “You’re the only mortal who’s ever made me hurt this much! You can’t die like this. You must live and become my pet, forever kneeling on the ground licking my boots! Keke!”
He spread his wide cloak, and a blood moon rose behind him. Endless bats flew out from his voluminous cloak like a storm. “Suffer! Wail! A bloody…”
“Sizzle—”
With Ruo Yi’s assistance, Xi Wei teleported behind Cain and plunged his greatsword into his body with an auto-attack.
“You… *puke*—!” The progenitor of vampires, Cain, spat out a mouthful of black blood. The dark magic forbidden curse he had just concocted was interrupted. He looked at the greatsword piercing his chest with a hint of desperation. “Can you… can you stop stabbing me!!”
“No.” Xi Wei expressionlessly withdrew his long sword. This time, he used both hands to stab the greatsword into Cain’s head. He was incredibly annoyed right now. Lewenstein wasn’t telling him what to do, and he couldn’t discern any weaknesses from Cain’s panel. It was a stalemate.
“Damn it! I’ll kill you! You’re not worthy of being my pet! Become one with me!” Cain howled, his two massive bat wings rapidly closing, attempting to engulf Xi Wei. However, Ruo Yi immediately appeared beside Xi Wei. A clock hand projection flashed beneath their feet, and they instantly vanished from their spot, reappearing in a safe location.
“Is that stinking fox teleporting you around? Then I’ll kill her first!” Cain fully unleashed his power, and thousands of bats from beneath his black cloak surged towards Ruo Yi. Just then, Xi Wei finally noticed something amiss. The residual power from his and Cain’s battle was terrifying, and the surrounding forest had been largely leveled. Yet, one inconspicuous sapling still stood tall amidst the ruins.
Ruo Yi evaded as a flash of light, rendering Cain’s attacks futile. Xi Wei’s gaze then focused on that sapling. Using the System’s special ability, he finally discovered a small green bat, no bigger than a baby’s palm, enveloped by the sapling’s leaves. A piece of information appeared:
[Progenitor’s True Form (Camouflaged)]
Xi Wei’s mouth twitched. “You damn old scoundrel, you’re even using ghillie suits now?!”
