Chapter 2: New Century (Epilogue)
“What!?”
Britt Grizzly could hardly believe his ears. That human king actually wanted him to get out and see him?!
Britt Grizzly’s face was contorted.
What was his status now? He was the Elf King.
And what was the King of Winter’s status? He was merely the king of three human empires.
Britt Grizzly tidied his hem and collar, making them look elegant and neat. He also stroked his beard, intending to appear more dignified.
He cleared his throat, waved his large hand, and said with imposing momentum and a serious expression:
“Where is the King of Winter? Take me to see him!”
The elf guard pouted and turned to lead the way.
He suddenly felt that being ruled by the Elven Empress was better. At least Britt Grizzly wasn’t so shameless…
But the Empress would eventually have to abdicate.
A dying person could not lead the elves to greater strength.
Britt Grizzly walked out of the Elven Royal Court with his head held high and chest puffed out, his steps arrogant and uninhibited. When he glimpsed the figure in silver armor.
He immediately hunched his back and tucked in his waist. His eyelids drooped, his hands relaxed, his lips turned down, and he switched from large strides to small steps. The muscles in his face twitched, and a fawning smile appeared on his face.
This series of actions was incredibly practiced, as if he had rehearsed it countless times in advance.
“Your Majesty Winter, greetings!”
From a distance, Britt Grizzly bowed and greeted him with a subservient smile.
He hid his sinister gaze beneath his lowered eyelids.
He repeatedly told himself that everything he was doing now was for the sake of the elf race. He was merely enduring humiliation, and in the future, when the elf race became powerful, it would be these arrogant humans’ turn to suffer!
Britt Grizzly firmly believed that such a day would come.
“Elder Britt, this is our first meeting, but I have already heard of you. I hope our communication will be very pleasant.”
Xi Wei had a smiling face, as if he hadn’t been the one who had just told Britt Grizzly to get out. Even the elf guard who had delivered the message next to him looked astonished. What kind of monsters were these two, changing their expressions so quickly!
Ultimately, the city’s schemes were too deep. For a simple young elf like him, it was safer to stay in his tree house.
“Hahaha, I look forward to it, I look forward to it!” Britt Grizzly also had a smiling face, but only he knew how much hatred he felt in his heart.
This damned King of Winter had deliberately called him an elder, wasn’t that a rejection of his identity as the Elf King?
He wasn’t giving him any face at all!
“As you can see, the war has ended.” Xi Wei looked around at the tree houses, holding his greatsword and walking around to Britt Grizzly’s side. He was no more than three steps away from Britt Grizzly, and the smile on his lips seemed a little cold in the late autumn sunlight.
“My point is, the Wintery Empire was a supporter in this war, and as the most powerful existence in the Elven Royal Court right now, shouldn’t you make some sort of gesture?”
Upon hearing “most powerful,” Britt Grizzly chuckled. He loved hearing that, but when he heard “make some sort of gesture,” he drooped his eyelids and pouted, looking like an old dog that hadn’t eaten for days.
“Your Majesty Winter, it’s not that I don’t want to make a gesture,” Britt Grizzly sighed and wiped away a tear squeezed from his eye.
“Look at what we have left in our Elven Royal Court. The Spring of Elves is destroyed, the Natural Codex and the Staff of Nature are with Alice Frost, all the unicorns are gone, and more than half of the elves are dead. We… we have nothing left…”
His implication was clear.
The elves had nothing left. All the good things were with the Elven Empress. He shouldn’t get involved. Moreover, the unicorns already belonged to Winter City. He advised Xi Wei not to be greedy. He couldn’t possibly enslave the elf race, could he?
“Is there really nothing left? I heard that your royal court also has a treasure vault?” Xi Wei asked with a half-smile.
“T-treasure vault?” Britt Grizzly feigned a dazed look of contemplation, but in his heart, he had already cursed Alice Frost’s ancestors eighteen generations back.
This damned slut could leave the elf race.
He could tolerate her not handing over the throne according to the normal procedure.
But what did she mean by this now? Telling the King of Winter about the treasure vault was trying to completely exterminate the elf race?
“I remember now, it seems there is such a treasure vault…” Britt Grizzly had no choice.
Alice Frost had already defected. It was impossible for him to escape without being torn apart by this hungry wolf, the King of Winter, today.
“However, Your Majesty Winter, our elves are truly miserable. We don’t have much left. Please be merciful in the treasure vault later and leave us some money for recuperation.”
Britt Grizzly’s face was filled with pain as he led Xi Wei towards the treasure vault.
Britt Grizzly
Although elves were not interested in amassing wealth, they were passionate about crafting magical equipment and jewelry. Coupled with their long lifespans, the elven treasure vault still contained quite a lot of good items.
The elves didn’t need money, but Britt Grizzly felt he would need it in the future.
Even if he couldn’t survive in the Emerald Forest one day, he could take the money and leave. As long as he had those assets, he could live happily until the end of his days without any problems.
The treasure vault of the Emerald Elves was located in a dense jungle, protected by an illusion array.
From outside the illusion array, they appeared to have arrived at a cliff. If they went any further, it would be a bottomless abyss, with an endless sea of forest below. The end of the forest sea was the ocean and a magnificent sunset.
Britt Grizzly turned to Xi Wei with a slight smile and pointed to the sky, saying, “Look, what a beautiful sunset. Why don’t we admire this treasure bestowed upon us by nature? Isn’t it more meaningful than the broken copper and rotten iron in the treasure vault?”
Xi Wei stared at Britt Grizzly for a while, then put his right hand behind his back and rested it on the hilt of his sword.
This made Britt Grizzly quickly change his tune and sigh:
“Even the most beautiful sunset is fleeting. Our lives ultimately still need that broken copper and rotten iron to continue. How helpless this is!”
He seemed to have gained new insight into life and looked wistful. Then, he took out a key from his Space Ring and opened the treasure vault.
With a “buzz” sound, the illusion disappeared.
What greeted their eyes was a massive warehouse constructed from a single block of rock.
A tall oak tree grew on the rock, its roots cascading down the rock surface like a waterfall.
Britt Grizzly pursed his lips and manipulated the warehouse door.
With a “click” and a rumble, the warehouse door opened.
A ray of golden light gradually expanded.
The floor of the treasure vault was covered in gold coins.
Each gold coin was meticulously carved with exquisite patterns by the elves.
There were depictions of birds and beasts, landscapes, epic battles, and portraits of people.
Xi Wei followed Britt Grizzly inside, picked up one of the coins, and played with it.
The coin depicted the Elven Empress Alice, smiling charmingly and lifelike.
These gold coins might not even be called gold coins at all; they should be called works of art!
Xi Wei picked up a pure gold elven rapier from the ground and handed it to Britt Grizzly.
“Your Majesty Winter, you only want this?” Britt Grizzly asked with surprise.
“You’re thinking too much,” Xi Wei grinned, revealing two rows of sparkling white teeth.
“I mean, besides this rapier, I want it all!”
